    Cash bars aren't so bad. However, if it is not communicated prior to the event it will definitely piss people off. 😂

    We had a very simple wedding reception in the church's parish hall. We didn't really have the money to hire a licensed bar tender or have a bunch of liquor, so we just mass bulk bought wine and beer from Costco. We put the beer in a big ice chest and put a bottle of wine or two on each table for self-serve. Worked great! And then nobody had to wait in line for alcohol.

      My cousin had a cash bar, but she had a bottle of red and white on each table and spares to replace if the table went through one already. Def cut lines at the bar and they didn't go through the stress and extra spending on a cash bar. Fun idea with the beer chest!

      I like this idea! I've heard of cocktail stations too, where people can make their own, or you have a designated person watching over it, depends on your guests and how well they behave though ;)

    • @Shadeadder
      @Shadeadder Před 3 měsíci

      @@jocelynsmyth6604 Just a note on that - a lot of venues require that have a licensed bar tender to serve any liquor, so definitely something to check before planning on a self-serve cocktail station.

    I’m doing a cash bar for several reasons.
    1. We want alcohol
    2. We have alcoholics in our families so doing that will lower the chances of them going over board
    3. Because of the alcoholics many don’t drink so no wasting money on those who don’t drink
    4. We will save a lot of unneeded money

    We had our wedding on a Sunday and had an open bar until the program ended, around 8pm, then it was a cash bar for the guests that wanted to party after until 11. We had the DJ announce when it was ending and there was a small line of peeps that wanted that last shot. The older folks took that as cue to go home, which is exactly what we wanted. 😂

    For the dessert tables, if making everything from scratch isn't important I would suggest maybe opting finding a friend or family member with a Costco or Sam's Club membership, and buying snacks in bulk. They also offer bulk wholesale cases.

    Cash bars are the norm in the UK. A rare business for someone to be paying for it with our drinking tendencies. Bankruptcy is a bad wedding gift for the bride and groom. Although wine for a table is often provided if it’s not a buffet (and then you’ll potentially get a large number of filled glasses at a separate table (with limited refills of said glasses before the bar becomes the default)

    For the money dance, I've seen the couple or whoever is coordinating the safety pins, also have dollar bills provided, so all you have to do is dance to participate. It's not about the money, it's about the gesture and wanting everyone to feel included.

    Where I am from, it is unthinkable to have guests pay by anything at the wedding. If you can't afford something just don't do it and that is highly respected. Most people don't bring cash or their wallets to weddings.

    The Master Plan was my ride or die leading up to my wedding! As with most venues I was required to meet with them 30 days out from the wedding day to finalize everything. The venue coordinator had then asked me to start supplying them with certain information and explained I had until about a week before the wedding to get said information to them. The pride and satisfaction I felt when I was able to surrender all my master plan docs to my venue at that very meeting was unforgettable!!! Not only was the coordinator very pleased, but she was equally impressed. Top “Boss Lady” moment… ever!!!

    Instead of a cash bar (because expecting ppl to pay for things at your wedding is 👎) just put a couple bottles of wine on each table. It’s cheap as long as there isn’t an alcohol prohibition.

    Follow up to DIY Pies, bride with celiac comment. A few years ago, I was at a wedding where this is essentially what we did. The bride/couple weren’t fans of Carrie and decided to go with pies. While it took some coordinating before hand, those of us arriving early essentially volunteered for the pie baking. We were starting in Vrbos or AirBnBs with full kitchens. Due to allergies, we had one house and kitchen for gluttonous pies and for glutenless pies. (Gluten containing and gluten free pies.) All of the dry ingredients were ordered before hand. Everyone involved in the baking had a pie or more to contribute and it all worked out wonderfully.

    We had a cash bar at our wedding. The reason for that, is it was to deter our relatives who have drinking problems from drinking too much. Which it did. Everything else from the hors d’oeuvres to the meal and the desserts was provided for. The evening went off without a hitch. And not a single person complained about the cash bar. They got their drinks and were happy.

    for a DIY "bar" some of my friends did a really great "station" kind of deal. Tables w/ the wine options (if I recall correctly, 2 red options and 2 white options) and for the main event, which was beer, they had those vintage-y metal washtub looking things filled with ice and each type of beer spread out in an area. So you had the "stouts" with 2-3 options, the "IPAs" w/ 2-3 options, the "Pilsners" w/ 2-3 options, etc. All that was needed was moving cans from the coolers to the tubs periodically, and keeping the ice topped off. TONS of options and it was a group of 100+ beer snobs who were all satisfied.

    • @annalisemeder8894
      @annalisemeder8894 Před rokem +2

      also adding that since it was all in an area, there was no "line" because you could just come up and grab whatever you wanted. If 1 person wants a red ale and another wants a hefewiezen, they are going to 2 seperate tubs

    We are doing a little of both with the bar. We will be providing a full champagne and canapé session and wine and beer with the buffet, but after the wedding breakfast the cash bar begins because we don’t want people too drunk throwing up in our grounds, and we don’t want to spend thousands on wine and beer when people would rather have an on site bartender making them cocktails and signature drinks.

    In Ireland, the bride and groom would never pay for guest's drinks. There would be wine with the meal offered by the bride and groom but after that, it's up to the guests. Our weddings don't end until the early hours of the morning.
