Do you use the old diaphragm to hold the new spring or did just put new spring with the valve in? Cause I’m having a hard time seeing what holds the spring center and in place without using the old diaphragm. Please get back to me.
Please get back to me ASAP.
Cause I have my car tuned and I don’t what to use. Do I use the new stiffer yellow spring that came with it or do I use the stock one and the diaphragm. Or do I just do not use a spring at all? Please get back to me
Because i tried using the stiffer spring and it’s almost not even possible to fit it in there. My common sense is telling me not to use a spring at all. Sorry for the spam I’m kinda time sensitive right now. So please reply
Nathan Miller I didn’t change the spring that came in the new Forge housing. The factory spring was completely removed. That is of course for the atmospheric. I don’t know the configuration of the Forge recirculating. Does this help?
DIY Toona yes I just ended up not putting a spring in. It sounds great. I was gonna say it was almost impossible to put the new spring in cause how stiff it was. Thanks for getting back. And this was for the atmospheric.
This is by far the most detailed insulation I've seen on CZcams good job man 👍
That actually sounded clean. Great great explanation.
Dude by far the best DIY video I have ever seen
I appreciate the kind words!
Great video good explanation, been thinking of doing this to my car I live in England UK and have a vauxhall astra with the same 1.4turbo engine
Did it work on your Cruze I have a 17
The music cracked me up... great vid... and thanks for the how to.
Awesome!! Clear & precise video of the entire process. I'm about to do this to my 2016 Trax. Gonna get a valve from the same place. Sounded awesome. Thanks for the walk thru man.
I lied there sold out. Damn. Any other links on a good place to buy a reliable valve that sounds as good as the one you installed?
@@BlueCollarBastard1987 you can try the one from Cruze Culture. It’s the exacts same valve product code, but I’d email them and see if it will fit the 1.4t in the sonic. (It really should. Same engine and all…)

Ok sweet thanks for the advice. I will do that. 👌
Dude mine is on the way for my 1.4 cruze. Cant wait! Nice detailed how to video btw! Gonna come in handy for sure. Thanks!
How much does it cost? :)
Did this work on your Cruze I have a 17
Whatsup don!!!!?
Thanks for the how-to. Informative and detailed.
Thankssssss, for a great video, well done!
Side note: A small neodymium magnet inside the socket works wonders ;)
John W you’re absolutely right. I have some of those small magnets now. Come in handy for a variety of applications.
So does scraping some sockets against a magnet till it becomes magnetic.
Great video! Thanks for this. I couldnt get the rubber hose part off the factory fitting and ended up ripping it, so had to buy a new one. 😔 🖖
Dont know if the Cruze is the same, but I just put the Forge recirculating valve on my Cruze and it was a pain in the butt. LOL Your video helped, though. Thanks. 🖖
Damn dude, that was super detailed
Thanks mate
What is the lil hard-line that is on the valve ? I know it goes the the elec solinoid at one time someone told me to tie in my boost gauge to it so I did . It does work but how accurate it is I don't know .....so if I install this valve I'm just going to put it in no diaphragm or spring ? I have the trifecta turbo advantage tune but that's 90 percent transmission I'm only pushing 19/20psi ...
Yes! The sound I’m looking for
Very detailed video two thumbs up.
To access blow off valve easier take off the heat shield and waste gate actuator... Makes putting in atmosphere blow off valve a lot easier
That’s sounds amazing!

Do I need the springs for the recirculating bypass valve or just insert it back into the valve
Dude Amazing video
can you please do a video on how to remove the bumper fog lights?
Something that you didn’t mentioned is that you will need a tune after install it. The recirculating valve doesn’t need a tune but the atmospheric does. If you don’t tune after install it the engine light will come on probably with the P0171 code
AK Studio really?
@@straightsixracing yes i got that every time i start it and remove it cause did not received the tune yet.
I got a p1101 code after install
Okay, I’m buying one now for sure
Does anyone know where to find a bov for the 2nd generation, 2017 and onwards 1.4l turbo models?
Thank you for this really informative and helpful guide! Will the re-circulation blow off valve sound just as good? I'm not looking to tune.
If you want to hear the recirculating bypass valve better, invest in an aftermarket intake that uses a hard tube and conical filter rather than the flex tube and filter box. This allows the sound of the air being vented back into the intake to be less muffles and heard through the filter.
@@DIYToona bro I have cold air intake and rest car is stock i hear woosh sound love it as its my very first best mod on cruze and was looking to make woosh sound louder. So the as you said intake I have it already can i install this recirculating valve to increase more sound of woosh let me know please cause my car is stock and don’t want to tune it
@@StreetLegalCars Yes the recirculating valve will make the woosh sound you hear louder. You won’t lose any air, so a tune shouldn’t be needed.
@@DIYToona thanks mate which one should i buy forge or bnr or any other brand you know after this two
@@StreetLegalCars I’d go with the Forge recirculating. They sell it on the BNR webpage.
Whats the measurments on the BYPASS VALVE
HelIo, need to do a question. Did you feel that your car is slower or has any performance reduce? Im about to install this valve to my Opel Corsa 1.4 turbo (same engine as Sonic Turbo) with stage 1 tune. Thanks and great video too :)
No I honestly couldn’t feel a difference in overall power.
I find it funny that I don’t see any simple mods for a 2018 Malibu “other than a K&N filter kit which I did install and was kinda happy with “ im still not happy with the throttle response and I can’t bring my self to spend $300 on a throttle improver module I also did try a adjustable manual boost control but that did nothing but turn on my check engine light on 😳
Thank"ssssssssssss" for showing the video. Def Getting one For Lil Blue.
That “ssssssss” is much louder and aggressive when there’s more psi under engine load.
Great build ! , Was wondering what kind of grill did you use I like the cut out and is that carbon fiber in between grills?
XicanMe420 So that grill was something I custom fabricated after I took a reciprocating saw to the lower grill. Yes that is carbon fiber separating the upper and lower sections
@@DIYToona thanks for quick reply Maan that looks amazing , I wanna do something like that I got the 1.8 my model and just cut open all the grill cause they have those stupid filled in gaps lol
Just wondering, Can i install a blowoff valve and have a cold air intake? Or do i need the stock intake for this to work properly
Noah Jacobs This BOV will work with both stock engine air intake and a cold air. I currently have an MPFab intake with the Amsoil conical filter on it and it works just fine.
Friend, could you help me with the measurements of the part where the turbo fits, where it has the gaskets, the diameter, the height? I would appreciate it from the bottom of my heart
Thank you!!
All your reply's, seem to focus on rev SOUND? Any engine improvement, in my book, is Performance!
What's the benifets of installing this, just to have more engine noise?
Robert Hein There is much debate as to if and how an atmospheric valve can improve performance. On a small displacement engine like the 1.4 there isn’t any performance gain. Some might argue it even suffers extra turbo lag because the air wasn’t recirculated back into the intake.
would this part fit on a 2015 chevy cruze as well? i know they are both a 1.4L but i dont know much about chevys so i dont know if they are the same engine and everything
According to the documentation on the Forge valve and Chevy, YES, this will fit the 2015 Cruze with the 1.4L Turbo Ecotec LUJ/LUV engine.
Can you install it on a Sonic LT 2013?
Hey i have a Chevy Cruze basically the same engine set up, if i install this valve does it require a tune? Seen forums saying so but in this video no tune was mentioned. Just curious let me know please!
The tune is highly recommended, but other sonic owners (including myself) had no issues operating the vehicle without a tune. Read some of the other comments for more info.
Will it work on a Buick Encore?
Great video.? Do you need tuning software with this install.?
Highly recommended but not 100% needed.
Yo man new to the channel quick question where did you find the body kit that's off the charts!!
Irish Kenny That’s no body kit. I widened the lower grill opening with a saw and fabricated a custom grill to fit.
@@DIYToona damn that's a damn good job then lol props!
Ive got a trifecta tune an one of these bov waiting to be put on.. it wont trip any engine codes will it? Just want to be sure lol
If you tell Trifecta you’ll be installing the BOV they will make sure that’s part of the tune and it doesn’t throw codes.
Does my car need a tune for this to work on my stock Chevy Cruze 2013?
Austin butts you will need a tune or it might send a code for vacuum leak
Very satisfying
I have a 2018 sonic rs would I be able to install a atmospheric bypass valve with no problems ?
cindy jimenez Yes if your Sonic uses the 1.4L turbocharged LUV engine. The ECU on the 2018 *might* be more picky and give you an engine light. A tune from reputable sources (like BNR and Trifecta) is recommended not only to avoid an engine light, but also to give your sonic a little extra GO.
I just installed a Blow off valve and next day a check engine light came out as p0171. And i have it in straight pipe what could cause this?
You need a tune
Any clue what size the screws are? I ended up stripping one out :(
They look like a m6#1.50 ?
Do you need an aftermarket tune for this to work without triggering the mil?
Did anyone ever find this out?
whats the part number for that? any part #
wish they made one with an adjustable bov so you can open or close it.
Were did you order bov?
I see you customized your front grille. . . anychance you have a video on how you did it?
Lawrence Cayetano Unfortunately I don’t have any footage of that endeavor. It was purely experimental and took a lot of measurements and prototyping to get right.
@@DIYToona looks good nonetheless.
Looking at getting this, did you need to tune at all? Did it throw any codes?
Tune recommended, but not always required. If it throws codes, tune it. See some other comments for further discussion if curious.
Hi... Which is better.... In order to have the pssss sound...
I dont know if is better the bov or an air intake. Just for the sound what do you recomend. ?
If i buy the bov. Is it necessary to modify the computer?
Gerardo Duenas if you want the venting sound to be as loud as possible, get the atmospheric. If you don’t want to deal with the BOV Installation, a hard-tube intake with conical filter usually allows some rushing air noise from the factory recirculating valve to be heard.
i recommend both
Will this work on a 2015 chevy cruze
So…it depends. It will work only if your Cruze has the 1.4T LUJ/LUV engine without the electronic waste gate actuator.
Do you need an aftermarket tune for this to work without triggering the check engine light?
I didn’t have a tune for several months and never got a check engine light. Some people have reported getting code P0171. Getting a tune will definitely alleviate the possibility of throwing a code.
@@DIYToona thank you for the reply, I do appreciate it.
Does installing a new aftermarket BOV negatively impact the turbo or engine?
no helps it run more efficient there for saving it in the long run. unless your tuning your car for max power
Is there a link to where I can order this part? I'm in Canada
Link is in the description
Where did you put the bov spring at ? Or you didn’t?
The spring that comes out with the factory diaphragm does not get reinstalled. There is a spring inside the Forge Valve.
What kind of tune do i need after installation?
GriiffixPVP Some sonic owners claim because of the small displacement engine and low psi that a tune is not needed. I wanted a little more HP so went with Bad News Racing (BNR) who tuned my car to include the atmospheric bypass valve. HOWEVER, I was driving my car without a tune with this valve installed and never got any caution advisory codes.
Spring and diaphragm are not needed afterwards?
Jattle axe The short answer is ‘no’. I just pinned the in depth discussion fro two months ago. Please check that out.
+DIY Tonna @DIY Toona what is the purpose of that? Sorry, i have a hard time googling it.😬
Hey man is this the same process for the trax??
I’m pretty sure it is the same process if you have the Trax with the 1.4L Turbo LUV designated engine.
Do you know if this application works for the Cruze?
Yes it will work on the Cruze with the 1.4L turbo engine.
where do i get one of those valves for a 2014 fiat 500l?
This might be what you’re looking for. Check the exact specs of your engine and hardware as well as the details on the website before purchasing.

Did you ever have oily residue around the engine ? Someone told me that atmospheric blow oil out over time and it goes on your engine .
RadDadGarage Since you asked I went out and checked. Looked all around the BOV area and below so see if there are any signs of oil residue. I honestly didn’t see (or feel) any. I’ve only have my BOV installed for 25 months (14,400 miles). Maybe something like that happens much later in its life.

I appreciate it thanks I asked cuz one guy had all these mods and had a forge recirculation valve I asked him why ? That's what he told me it blows oil all over ...so now I know it don't , if combined with a catch can even better

Where can I buy this blow off valve I've been looking for it and I can't find it?

Silly question but here it goes.
What is the benefit of installing this valve on an otherwise unmodified engine?
Apart from the hissss.
Ok, so explain why or what would be the purpose of changing this athomisphic (?) My spelling,Auto correct is ?, valve?
What does it do, changing it will improve what?
How much?
Where to get it?
Again why?
Did you already have a Tune on your ECU, if not won't this new BOV cause a code on the ECU?
I didn’t have a tune for several months and never got a check engine light. Some people have reported getting code P0171. Getting a tune will definitely alleviate the possibility of throwing a code.
Why wasnt anything mentioned of needing a tune in the video?
What type of blow of valve did you acquire?
Joe Kaestner The one installed is an atmospheric made by the company Forge
A ball torx may be easier than a standard torx bit 👍🏼

For my stock chevy trax 1.4 turbo
KING TURK are you looking at the ZZP wastegate actuator?

Unfortanetly i have a paypal issue that zzp only use overseaa.my country is not compatible with paypal so i had to get a universal 14.5 psi seting actuator from alibaba
Will this work on a 17 cruze.
lawzsocom As long as it’s the 1.4L turbo LUV engine it will work. The way some of the bolts are accessed might change due to engine bay layout, but ultimately the steps done on the old valve and new valve remain the same.
Do you have a link for the BOV that you used?

Hello i'm have a question, after install Mily own valvle mi Sonic show me a check engine 😢, code P1101 , Any solution for this?
P1101 might mean your mass airflow sensor connector isn’t fully connected or you didn’t put it back on had you removed it during install.
@@DIYToona yes i removed it, is a mistake?
@@joseantonioavalosgonzalez8244 not a mistake. Be sure to install it back.
hello sir, just ask can you tell me the distance between from this Triangular 3 hole from dump blow off valve;;?? **great job
DoC I don’t understand. The distance between each triangular hole?
@@DIYToona yes.. this is exactly what I want to know
DoC Hey sorry it took so long to reply. I had to take the measurements myself. So center to center each hole is aprox 2.024” away from each other in a triangular pattern.
Whats the difference between atmosferic and recirculating? i bought recirculating but maybe it doesnt will make the bov sound :S can you help me?
MRHOTCAKE Atmospheric vents the “waste” air outside (into the engine bay area). Recirculating routes the air back into the intake just before the turbo. The atmospheric is louder.
@@DIYToona thanks, I think I bought the wrong bypass valve I wanted the bov sound... Damn :( so the one I bought will no sound and be the same as stock one?
Hey where did you get your grill from?
I built that myself. Laser cut acrylic and hand-laid carbon fiber.
Hi there... Do you know if this is the valve of a Focus ST mk2?
Hi. Unfortunately this specific valve only works with the MK3. However, the same manufacturer does sell a kit for your MK2 here www.forgemotorsport.com/Blow_Off_Valve_and_Kit_for_Ford_Focus_RS_Mk2--product--1002.html
@@DIYToona Thank you. Im asking that cause i have a 2016 Sonic RS and i want to install your blow off valve, but here in my country they sell the same valve for Sonic RS, Focus St mk2 and Focus RS mk3, also for 2.0 ecoboost. Somebody told me is the same valve because there is no other valve with that shape, but... I didnt believe that.
Did you put it without the spring?
What you’re asking might be covered in the pinned comment. My guess is you’re asking about the spring that’s part of the factory diaphragm seen at 2:21. No that does not get reused with the aftermarket valve.
That spring you moved from the oem part, does the new by pass valve already come with a built it spring?
Yes it does. If you are buying new there will already be a spring inside the housing. It also comes with additional springs of varying stiffness you can swap out.
@@DIYToona did you have have swap out the spring?? Or just threw it on? I’m starting to modify my trax decent mods already 🤟🏽
@@nizo6673 I just threw it on with the default spring that’s pre-installed. The other ones are if you are pushing more boost I believe.
@@DIYToona I’m pushing max 22 psi
@@nizo6673 I can’t recall which color spring is rated for what PSI. You’d need to look at the Forge specs.
Two questions... any hp gain? Did you change anything on the ecu?
Luis Diego Ramírez Córdoba First answer, not without a tune. Second answer, I did get an ecu tune, but didn’t do it myself. I still need to hop on the dyno to see where I’m at now.
@@LittleToona great I'll keep checking... if you get any positive results on the dyno I'll order one
if anything you will lose power and have turbo lag because turbo pressure it released in the atmosphere instead of recirculating, sounds cool though
Did it throw any codes? Because am thinking about getting one for my 1.4 chevy cruze
And did u put the factory spring back into the new one?
No it didn’t throw any codes whatsoever. And that was with factory tune. I don’t think factory recirculating valve spring will fit the forge (but I’m not positive). I didn’t do a spring change. The forge comes with a spring installed, plus an addition stiffer one for more aggressive tunes with higher boost.
I just had to remove mine yesterday as it was spraying oil out of it when it was activated by letting off the throttle. be careful with dump valves!
Thanks for the video you made it easy to understand and easy to see all steps , the forge BOV was not cheap was it ? Have you done the pcv mod ? The kit that bypasses the factory check valve in the intake I'd like to see a video on that one as well .
Bamboozel96 Yes I have done the PCV mod. If you look carefully in some of the shots you can see the brake boost line connected to the T-fitting on the top of the manifold. Unfortunately I didn’t create a video for that task.

That's a missing link video lol ...I have the one that goes to the throttle body spacer although I have not done it yet would like to see a video ...
Bamboozel96 I know. Believe me I wanted to make a vid for it, even shot some scenes. The task became too involved for a first-timer and I didnt want to make a video without knowing the best way to do the mod.

What do you do if my odometer reads dashes after i changed the battery?
Are you getting a check engine light as well? Typically that occurs when there is a module communication fault.
DIY Toona nope. Its just dash marks across
I'm really sorry, I've never seen or read about that issue, nor can I find any information about the dashes being isolated separate from a check engine light. Was your old battery disconnected from the car for an extended amount of time?
Do you need a tune for this or does it work okay with the stock tune?
NvrStpGaming There are some more detailed discussions on this in earlier comments. The short answer is no.
@@DIYToona Thanks for responding. Looking through the comments its looks like I will need to tune it since I own a 2018 Sonic
What would I have to do to make it flutter now?
You could have it tuned to produce more of a flutter. The flutter is the sound of peak pressured air between the turbo and intake not being able to enter the engine and instead fighting the turbo. The whole point of a bypass valve to to reduce this.
Work on 2017 Sonic Premier Sedan 1.4?
There’s a chance you’re turbo is slightly different in a 2017, depending on which plant your Sonic came from. Check this site: www.forgemotorsport.com/Blow_Off_Valve_for_Focus_RS_MK3_Corsa_Chevy_Cruze_Sonic--product--982.html#
There is a diagram in the valve description that shows what to look for compatibility wise.
Did you install the to atmospheric bov? And do you need to get your car retuned when you put this on?
Dustin Bach Yes I installed the “to atmospheric” bov. A tune isn’t necessary with these engines. The boost and air volume isn’t enough to throw codes or cause overly rich F/A.
@@DIYToona no codes or any? Awesome
