- Big yabbies for morning tea, could there be a better way to start my day than by catching a feed of big yabbies and cooking them in the bush?

Your right about yabbies being better than prawns mate, they just have that sweeter kind of taste, also spot on about the claws being the best meat...just a shame they arent bigger!
Also a huge pat on the back mate for taking the time and effort to ensure they were dispatched humanely. Well done.
Thanks so much mate.
Imagine what they’d have to tell their yabby mates when they got back. We saw this light, then next thing we were on this esky lid in the sun
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahahahaha
Love your work mate.especially love seeing people show respect for their catch. Doesn't take a lot of extra effort for your catch to be cooked humanely.
Thank you so much mate.
You’re right Robbie they’re the nicest eating food from the water. That’s the way I always used to cook them, but every now and then a nice garlic mornay sauce goes extremely well with them. You’ve got to have salt on them too. 🤤
Butter & garlic is THE bomb!
Thanks Kev. That sounds like a lovely way to eat them mate.
What a great feed, keep that dam in your memory 👍👍👍👍🦞🦞🦞🦞
Nice catch! You cook them the same way I do, much easier and faster then chucking whole yabbies in the pot haha. I crack the claws open with a pair of tongs, *squeeze, CRACK!* 😁
Thanks mate. Excellent idea. I use my teeth. LOL I probably shouldn't. Haha
No longer RObbie now known plainly as YAbbie 😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hahaha 🦞🦞🦞
AWESOME ROBBIE :) Thanks so much for sharing mate !
I really enjoyed watching as always !
Cheers,
Rob.
Thank you so much Robert.
Robbie, that was great. 8 screen licks mate, yummo
Hahaha thanks Deb.
Thanks for video. I couldn't eat anything without salt. Take care and keep being you. God bless.
Thanks so much Becky. I too am a fan of salt. Unfortunately. LOL God bless you too my friend.
HEY YOU!! Loved it mate...thanks again Robbie..
Thanks so much John.
You make me hunger for Yabbies! Been years since I've caught, cooked & eaten them. Cheers!
Great video I love it Robbie I do love to watch you cook thet look so good when their done cooking I had to find something to eat while I watched lol thanks Robbie for the video .
Haha thanks Tim. I'm glad to hear that my cooking makes people happy. LOL
Perfect way to spend the morning and the Yabbies fresh off the boil just tops it off .
I really enjoyed this video. I think what you call yabbies over there are what we call crayfish over here delicious bush snack
Thanks so much mate. Yeah they certainly have different names in different parts of the world. We have crayfish here but they are MUCH bigger than these.
Great video Robbie
Thanks so much mate.
Great video Robbie. Loving the catch and cooks 😀✌️
Thanks Tubby. This trip certainly went better than expected. Haha
Great vid robbie gotta love some nice Aussie yabby videos
Thanks mate. They tasted amazing.
Great video mate and a good feed nothing better!
Thanks mate. What a ripper way to start my day.
Wow, some nice sized yabbies in the mix, Robbie 👍🏼 Yummy 🤤
Thanks Wayne. That morning certainly ended up being a lot more productive than I expected it would be.
Another good yabby adventure Robbie. Best wishes for continuous good catches!
Thanks so much Tony.
Definitely giving the cravings for yabby's, 👌
Nice feed there mate. Nothing beats fresh yabbies.
Thanks Glen, you're not wrong mate.
Good trip and looked a good feed 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Cam, what a great way to start the day.
Got a nice dam here at our new homestead site, no yabbies in it yet, but by this time next year, we'll be yabbie millionaires, Rodney.
Haha that sounds excellent Rodney. Half your luck mate.
@@robbiefishing That's right, Dellboy, we'll be yabbie millionaires
Looks yummy, but I would have loved them drenched in garlic butter as well. Thanks for sharing this awesome video.
There like them Balmain Bug's mate there better then a spiny lobster any how mate great video 👍🍻😎🇦🇺👍
Thank you so much Dean.
Big yabbies biggg yabbies biggggggg yabbies haha. Well done they look delicious now nothing better then cooking in the bush
Haha thanks mate. I agree. All good always tastes so much nicer in the bush.
excellent, chef idea, boil chop up into pea size pieces lightly fry in garlic butter top an your favorite homemade pizza, top with whatever you like, It's got to be better than prawns, haven't tried it, on my to do list though.
Thank you
Another great vid from you Robbie. I heard that purging them for a while in clean water is preferrable. The Trangia reminds me of cooking my way around Europe many years ago!
Thanks so much mate. I love.my Trangia.
Great yabby video Robbie.
When yabbying a couple of weeks ago, I also got attacked by Marchflies.
Ruined a good afternoon as it was impossible to stand within 50 feet of the dam without getting bitten to bits.
Thanks Bruce. They really are horrible things aren't they.
Yum!
Great video Robbie the bloody spoonbills have been eating the yabbies
Thanks mate. Spoonbills certainly do love yabbies.
Yummo indeed Robbie! 🤤🤤
Thanks Les, they sure were amazing.
Looks beautiful. Brown vinegar is the go 🤎
Thanks mate, I will have to try that. I've always used white.
BUSH high tea! Mmmm!
Great yabbie fishing, they look tasty.
Thanks so much Kev.
Yabbilicious!
Yum. Get it.
Looks delicious
Thanks mate, it sure was.
Great stuff mate 👍 I'm about to move up north of Sydney mate, I just sold me home here and moving into fresh water and salt water town so I'll have the best of both worlds mate . I'll be in God's waiting room mate in the middle of Port Macquarie NSW and Wauchope nsw a creek running into the Hastings River at me back door mate just gotta find some yabby Dam's top stuff mate
Thanks mate. WOW, sounds like you are moving to an amazing place. What an exciting tree change for you. I hope it all works out mate.
@@robbiefishing I've lived there before for 15 year's mate . I'm finished with work so I'll just shoot and fish now . Oh and watch your CZcams vids start up a Rumble channel mate you can put more stuff on Rumble mate get your arse on it buddy
Please do more catch, clean and cooks. So delicious! Maybe do a "garlic creamy and spicy prawn" style dish for the tasty yabbies in the future, and a Redfin cook up?! Are you allowed to keep silver perch? We can't in SA, but I buy the farmed ones at Costco and do a tasty baked then shallot oil fried silver perch for the family
Anyway, thanks heaps for your vids. Myself and my 4yo toddler love your vids ☺️😀
Thanks so much mate. We can keep Silver Perch out of lakes and dams, but not rivers. I filmed a Silver Perch catch and cook last month.
Hey Robbie. Love your channel mate. Just watched your latest yabby vid 👌🏻🔥
I’m in Wangaratta today and was hoping to find a dam with some yabbies in it. My son and I always try for them but never have much success and he gets pretty disheartened. Could you possibly point me in the right direction of a promising dam so I can show him they do exist 😂 Thanks legend and keep up the amazing content 😎👍🏻
Thanks Dan, sorry I'm just working my way back through some comments now and am a bit late replying.
If you're still here, try the 1 mike or the 3 mile creeks mate, they're public access and both have yabbies in them
Nice
Thank you Robbie
Love them that way although my Mum say toss them in a couple of pinches of salt no more otherwise you spoil them
Thanks Peter. These definitely needed salt. I usually use waaaaaay too much salt. LOL
thats cool
Thank you.
Gday rob
From a very snowy u.k...mate you have made my day by doing this catch and cook... I agree with all you say regarding eating yabby..and super healthy...
I wonder if the net in the corner did so well because there was a little sunlight falling on that area ?
Rob a question please what was that piece of music when you did the yabby shots ?
I can wait to get out for a foraging session, but winter doesn't want to leave at the mo haha
Rob thank you and very best regards to the gang..
😎🏴
Thanks so much Michael. I hope you're not getting too cold. It snowed where I live once, in 1969. LOL Or was it 1966? I'm not sure. I wasn't here. Haha
I can't remember the music sorry. I will need to check when I'm on my PC next. I downloaded it from Epidemic Sound.
Beautiful cook up Robbie - only thing would make better would be a litter butter and black pepper.
Thanks Alex. What a ripper way to start my day. Haha
The melt water from commercial ice is rather devoid of oxygen as well as often containing traces of chlorine. It wreaks havoc on the gills and results in a high mortality rate.
Made me hungry again haha..
Haha sorry about that. LOL
OMG yum 😋
Hi mate, they sure were yum.
@@robbiefishing was jealous watching you eat them 🤣
Yabs are nicer than prawns because you cook them fresh. All water life deteriorates by the hour once dispatched and out of the water. Yabs and Fresh Water Crays are kept alive till you cook them. But live caught prawns are hard to beat but we don't have that luxury, large freshwater shrimp are good eating though. And you will get one more session in if you have the time, going to be hot again next week. I used to find St. Patricks Day about the end of the season with the really cool nights starting to set in, but that was never set in stone, nature always throws us curve balls. But you have had a good season.
Thanks mate. That sounds about right. I did not know that, but I believe it. I hope to try freshly cooked prawns some day.
If you had some tongs or a slotted spoon you could scoop the cooked bits out and into the other pot with ice then keep using the already hot water in the first pot. Would have saved some cooking time, but maybe not a ton.
I've had days where we needed crab boilers to handle the number of crays we had. Some nights we'd pull up 400+ redclaw. They breed like flies and are invasive here so there's no bag limits.
A sprinkle of pepper and some butter on bakery fresh crusty loaf.......mmmmmmmmmmm.
Yummo. I've never eaten freshly caught and cooked crab. I hope you some day.
OMG you are on fire with the Yabbies. Morning tea looked great. Now a question, do you ever try Yabbies in like a curry or maybe an omelet, or are the best just on their own?
Thanks so much Larry. I rarely do more than the absolute basics with my cooking, and even then I still stuff it up half the time. Haha
Now I'm hungry.
Haha sorry about that. LOL
hi robbie the cod are on at benalla
Thanks mate, a friend of mine has been catching them there too.
You should try making a yabby pasta, I want to try it myself but i've not had much luck with redclaw up here in North QLD.
That sounds amazing.

Hahahaha
come to Sydney if its nice n cool there my room hasn't seen less then 30c in 3 weeks lolsad when thats all night n day...
WOW I couldn't handle that mate. I don't handle the heat too well.
I might be getting a jumper robbie
WOW that's so awesome mate.
Thx Robbie ur so good at fishing
Hey Robbie! Yabbies taste alright but for extra flavour you should have added one or both of the turtles you caught. They don't taste like chicken though. More like Rat....
Haha thanks Mark. I'm pretty sure there are laws against that though. LOL
❤😂
have you ever tried a cajun boil with the yabbies? I hear it's quite good but don't know how it would work for 1 person.
I haven't mate. I have never heard of them in Australia to be honest. I know they're popular in America. Definitely something for me to look into one day.
@@robbiefishing not much different than you did in the video. just add cajun seasoning, corn. and potatoes. I will look in to seeing if I can get some seasoning shipped over.
It's around midnight here in SA and I'm hungry.
About the salt etc, would it work if you cooked the yabbies in water with a little bit of salt and vinegar or would that be a different taste again?
I looked up the local fishing regs and it looks like carp and redfin both have to be disposed of when caught. I reckon I might have a trip down to Mannum some time soon. The carp can go to fertiliser and redfin to the plate, assuming I can catch something.
Seeya later mate.😂
Thanks Bruce. I usually put salt and vinegar into the water when I cook the yabbies, and lemon. If nothing else it makes the place smell nice when I am cooking. Haha
I would love to try yabbies, they would be totally amazing in a pasta. I live in Sydney, where could i find yabbies?
Sydney Fish Market would be your best bet. Or, a good retail outlet my be able to get some in for you. But they are a delicacy, don't go wasting them in pasta, or cooking them is sauces or flavoured butters. Leave all that for the cheaper stuff. Good fish/crustaceans don't need any flavourings, when you see something cooked in some sort of sauce, it's usually rubbish.
Thanks for the tip, but I'd like to catch them near Sydney!
Hi mate, I have no idea where to find them up there as I am in Victoria. I have eaten them in a pasta and they are amazing.
Was told as a kid that you use meat as bait for yabbies. They don't eat it but try to get rid of it so it doesn't poison their water. They are vegan as far as I know. What do you think.?
Hi Paul, I have heard and read this myself, but I'm not convinced.
@@robbiefishing It’s the same thing as people saying not to use cheese for cod because it kills cod, If meat is was harmful to the yabbies Fisheries would have rules about not using it.
@@mapd6831 Absolutely, I agree. There's a lot of myths and wives tails around.
They are scavengers, not vegans, will eat whatever is available. That is how they survive long dry spells and droughts.
Hey Robbie it’s my birthday tomorrow
Awesome, Happy Birthday for tomorrow mate.
Have you tried them on a fire? I like cooking em that way now
I don't think I have mate. I tried them in my Tandoor oven once and cremated them. LOL
Your mate, t he deer hunter, DID he speak a bit like Christopher Walken?
LOL Who is that? I can't say I know him.
@@robbiefishing OMG are you serious? You don't know the actor, Christopher Walken??
Moar Cowbell?
When you going to make a crayfish catch and cook video
Hi Barry, when the season opens in winter I hope to mate.
Why do you throw the nets back to the exact same spot. When you don’t catch any from the first try ?
Sometimes they just need a bit more time.
You could have reused the hot water in the second pot.
I never even thought of that. LOL What a great idea. Thanks for the tip
@@robbiefishing no problem
Is these crawfish an yall call them yabbies where your from???
Hi mate these are yabbies, they're the Australian version of your crawfish.
Why not reuse.the boiling water from the first pot
Someone else asked that. Haha I'm not smart enough to think of these things. 🤣🤣
Are they tastier than Witchetty Grubs? lol.
LOL I dunno, I've never eaten witchery grubs..haha
@@robbiefishing I hear they taste like chicken....
Shluuuurp
They went down soooo well!!
I thought you looked familiar I’ve met you
Awesome. Where did we meet?
@@robbiefishing I used to live in Wangaratta I knew I knew your face
I’m in a wheelchair
Robbie - are you in the process of getting a large tattoo removed ?
Yes mate, I certainly am. 👍
@@robbiefishing Good for you - I hope it all pans out well.
OMG - I forgot to watch the tape lol
