- In this episode, I head off for a shore jigging expedition from a beach in Botany Bay, Sydney Australia. This video is dedicated to give the viewers a how-to tutorial for the increasingly popular shore jigging style of fishing. During the wintertime it can be tough to get a bite using conventual methods however using the shore jigging method we are able to access out of reach and deeper parts of the waterways where the fish generally like to reside in the cooler months.

Hey there,… these are the newest jigs for the surf and they’re awesome…!
I usually attach the assist hooks to a solid stainless ring & a double split ring and I attach the leader line to the solid ring… reason being is … your assist hook can and will eventually work its way off the split ring and the attachment loop on the lure is not that string… so if you happen to lose your lure… your still secured from leader line to solid ring… no loss of fish…!

Great insight, It's always something I've been worried about in the back of my mind, but haven't faced this issue.. yet aha! I have done that attachment in the past straight to solid ring, but it can be annoying when changing over to another jig. I've been using Shout split rings and they have been great, If I feel like they have lost their rigidity because of opening and closing a lot I'll change it over to a new split ring :) Great tip mate!

Hmm. Gonna try this in the state's when set surf fishing is slow. I already SPJ in GOM out of the FL. panhandle area and luv Nomad SPJ Buffalo, Gypsy and SquidTrex products. CHEERS and tight lines!

Too kind mate, hope you enjoyed it! I do sometimes when I’m in an area that’s not too snaggy. Or when there are certain species that love a straight retrieve. So I’ll do a normal jig however last 10m I’ll do a straight retrieve like a metal and most the time I’ll get a hungry fish that followed the jig to my feet. Downsides are you can’t really Fast jig with rear trebles/hooks as they can foul more often and tangle with your leader. Or when the fish have only the front hooks in their mouths but the treble are hanging out I find they hook up on debris when they are running and I’ve lost fish like this.

So you do a few cranks, then stop. Then repeat? And where did you buy the assist hooks and jig?
Hey man, yup that's it also depends on the depth, if i'm fishing deeper water etc I'll work the jig in the strike zone for what fish I'm targeting. Jigs with assists are all from Nomad Design. Can be find at most of your local fishing retailers.

in winter days early morning casts the jig that works nice is anything silver flashy with pink and blue tones. Good to try the red-pink-blue dotted jigs with silver body. Everything seems to be willing to attack them.

Can you use Nomad Streaker for shore jigging I have 80 gram ones😮
Sure can, I use them a lot for Kingfish in certain areas like off the rocks :) they don’t fall that fast despite being 80g. More of a sweeping left to right motion when it’s falling. Perfect for Pelagics 👍

Do you let the jig hit the bottom?
Hey man, for this area as i'm going for fathead off the sand its important to be bouncing off the bottom. Generally depth of jigging will vary depending on what part of the water column your target species like to live.
