WTTC 1979 (World Table Tennis Championship 1979), Pyongyang (Phenjan) MEN'S TEAM FINAL, Hungary-China 5-1 Tibor Klampar - Li Zhenshi (2:0) World Ranking 1979: Tibor Klampar, #3, Li Zhenshi, #6
+RODOLFO TACSAN such comparisons don't make too much sense. Most likely Ma Long would have played the same slow motion game in the 70s, if he was young then. Talent and the quality of training matters, regardless of what the dominant playing style is at any time.
On that floor, which was very common at that time, Ma Long would not have a chance against Klampar. When you had collected enough dust under the shoes it was slippery as ice and the reason why TT players could not play with the same athletics as today. Instead, they were required to play more with their hand, ankle, and arm.
That's bollocks.Stiff would describe Ma Long's backhand,in a essence a block-drive with hardly any wrist action.Klampar would still be relevant cause he had impecable wrist timing and ball contact. He would still have one of the backhands in the world.Modern game is more and more backhand centric. His failings had more to do with problems with his association which often took disciplinary action against him. Soviet players were notorious head cases:Klampar,Grubba,Primorac,Kreanga the list goes on and on...
Played both these guys and lost to them both too!
Istvan Jonyer - Guo Yuehua (1:2) / WTTC 1979
Soon!
Hamarosan!
Klampar ...the first chinese hungarian.....
Great game by Klampar, but in fairness Li has a bad day at the office. He was world No.3 at one point and a real-worldcalss player, but not that day!

no contest. klampar just wiped li off the table. tibi lemosta az asztalrol.
好似打仔咁
Well, this was a bit awkward lol.
グランパは達人だと思う。現代の選手はこの映像を見クランパの身体の使い方を研究すべきだ。
クランパの手首やわらかいなぁ。ベンクソンも手首で払うだけだったかな。
Speed glue was the difference. Although stiff like rods Klampar shots were like rockets. Today they would not stand a chance against Chinese players.
