- This past week over the xmas period, Mustard decided to dive into the weird world of MK Mythologies speedrunning for some reason, this is his current personal best time which is also now #2 on the speedrun.com leaderboard. www.speedrun.com/mkmsz#Any
A time that can definitely be improved on (mainly with no deaths), but a solid run nonetheless, and something we thought would be fun to put on the channel!

This is probably gonna seem super out of the blue for a lot of you, but the two of us have enjoyed MK speedruns of varying kinds before (see Ketchup UMK3 and us both Shaolin Monks) and this is something I've (Mustard) have been interested in trying out for a while!
This game is hard, and learning how to run it was a challenge, but I really enjoyed the learning experience and will continue to try and improve this time.
The rules are:
Very Hard Difficulty
Emulator Must be shown
Time starts on begin game and ends when you run through the shinnok portal
that's basically it!

How many mk world records do you hold between you and your bro? I can think of two off the top of my head not including this one (haven't finished watching yet lol). It's damn impressive, your dedication and passion for the franchise

I think this is the only game in history that no one wants to play, but everyone will watch someone else play.
It's like a typical crummy NES game, but with better graphics and sound! Oddly gratifying watching someone speed through it when the majority of people stop at the second level!
The game's story itself isn't bad its the controls and level design that needed work
I was forced to play it back then when u got a game u was kinda stuck with it good or bad I don't think we ever beat it even with the strategy guide
I did play it to see if its that bad, and tbh by my standard its not bad... Until you get to the platforming section
I rented this game at least twice, and it definitely was a "find cheats/passwords or give up in frustration" game. Trying to make a cross between a fighting game, a platform game, and an adventure game was more than the developers could handle.
Fujin fight. "Yeah, lets add this mechanic in the end, that no one will ever think of, just for good measure, this level is pretty fun anyways."
dude, when i was a kid i just retry that fight thousand of times, trying every weird thing i could until i had the rtrd idea of crouch near the platform

I remember when this game came out. What people fail to understand is that this was the first time we fans of MK had a look at the lore from a different point of view (not like today, we only had the movie and a really bad cartoon), which it was amazing for me. I really enjoyed it, and it's still one of my favorites in the franchise. Thanks for the memories!

I remember playing this game as a kid and wanting to be able to climb the ropes like Sub-Zero.
I never beat the game and I've never been able to climb those ropes in RL
I used to play this on my N64 when I was really young I was SO bad. I don’t even think I beat the first level if I’m being real lol

I remember getting this game for Christmas as a kid...i knew mortal kombat but i had never even heard of this one. The AI in this game used to have me tossing my controller.😂

I knew there were some jank titles in the MK series but this seems like the Star Wars christmas special of the franchise.

I always liked this game. Every two years I have the need to play the whole game again and again.
I like to save the urns so I can deafeat Shinnok in his monster form.
It's a hard game, it always makes me feel successful when I beat it.
Still waiting patiently for MK Mythologies 2.
Cheesing every enemy to even beat the game is great game design lol

Hi ketchup, my best run time is just under an hour an a half. I'm 35 years old an first got the game on N64 along with mk trilogy an MK 4. The Lin kuei is my favorite! Have a great day 😊
Play this back when I had hair, and got as far to quanchi.... And that's that. I gave up, and gave it to my friend, who I found out later that he broke both CDs in a tantrum over not being able to pass the wind platform stage.

Mustard did you literally play this on very hard on an any% speedrun? Or is there a "strat" for playing on such difficulty?
Very Hard is the only difficulty that counts on the speedrun.com leaderboard so you have to play it, some strats are are way easier on Very Hard like the Fujin fight
