- Welcome to Episode 2: Part 2 of a How To video series presented by NCHPAD with the help of Mary Allison Cook, a woman who has used a wheelchair for the past 25 years. She will lead us through a number of How To's for the wheelchair user. In this video you will learn the important aspects of how to hop, pop, and jump in your wheelchair wherever you please.
This video depicts the way Mary Allison has found to navigate life. What works for her may not be feasible for you. It is important to take proper precautions while trying new skills and note that some skills may not be safe for you to attempt. In some cases riding an escalator may be prohibited for individuals who use a wheelchair.

I do it differently. I usually just land on my face. Your so good at it.
Lol let's try this method for safety.
I learned all my chair skills from these videos.
Great to hear. Glad you enjoyed the videos.
You are an inspiration to me, I've been hiding at my house & in bed for 9 years. I lost the use of my legs in an accident at work in 2007,(I just gave up) but after watching your videos, I feel better about myself... Thank You.
James keep fighting! Best wishes!
Thank you for the kind words, I will...
Keep it up
So have I James, I think it’s the embarrassment I’m afraid of and the what ifs. What if I need the loo and there isn’t one nearby. What if I get stuck or can’t get over a kerb. I hope that by now you’ve managed to overcome the fear. The first outing will be the worst until you get your confidence back. I’ve just bought a mobility scooter but I’ve not been on it yet...just waiting for some nice weather now. Good luck James.
Thank you. Thank you for taking the time to show us, people just like yourself, using wheelchairs. Thank you again.
Wonderful thank you. Thankfully I got used to the way of movement Bchrisaa moving even though I live in the desert and sand a big problem. Important to thank you and thank you Marya
Using those gym mats to practice was a wonderful idea! Thanks, Pat.

Mary, you should teach us how to "hop pop and jump" up a flight of stairs- my friend has a new puppy, but he's super young and can't leave the house- BUT HER HOUSE HAS A TON OF STAIRS, BUT I WANT TO SEE THE PUPPERS!!
I'm in a chair and my balance is bad sometimes going up a pavement I miss judge it then try again even though I got training from hospital but after seeing ur video it helps me to practice more esp for independence I got told back work off a pavement but what if there is on coming traffic ie idiot's speeding ect thanks

I taught myself this stuff. I like messing around on the ramps at skate parks.
MUITO BOM! PARABÉNS!
I can hop up pretty high curbs. Leaning forward at the right time make is a breeze!!!
what is your advice by transfers in the house?
Thanks very very very much
Thanks for watching! Let us know if there are other tips or tricks you'd like to see.
All very well for people who have balance... I don't. Oh well I'll keep to the ramps. Thanks for the video and information.
Does this work with 2 degrees of camber?
I like this
Where i get this??
Usually when I go up curbs I get a running start then put up front wheels 2 feet away from the sidewalk, then after I hit it with the back wheels i transfer my weight to the front and push the main wheels as hard as I can.
Hello! Could wheelchair users climb 'Walk&Roll' stairs more easily?
What kind of wheelchair do u have?it's very nice.it can move us independently
I have too much tightness,, when i sit my chair my leg push me up.... it's hard to make balance on chair...
This is terrific! However I myself have multiple sclerosis, and some balancing issues this might be a bit of a risk for people like me.
so by me looking at this video, you need to tell me there are still places that don't comply with the Americans with disabilities act? (ADA). I hope some of these CEOs(unless their handicap themselves) realize that it's against the law not to have some kind of a handicap accessible for people in wheelchairs.
Hi,where,did,get.youy.wheel.chare.?..😊
This modal wheelchair price in India.?
I am Indian from KERALA physically handicapped person

I am a new wheelchair user. I have a Quickie and can 'almost' balance a wheelie. My problem is finding someone in the SF Bay Area that teaches wheelchair skills. My health insurance plan does not cover it. I drive and can get my chair in and out of my car unassisted, so I can go anywhere to learn the skills. I'm am not worried about the cost. Any ideas?
You should check out BORP- www.borp.org/ It is a Bay Area adaptive recreation program.
how much price in BDT
Hi Bhuiyan! Please message us at email@nchpad.org for questions regarding the price.
"Don't pull yourself out of your chair". LOL, I did that once. Whole ' nother set of problems.

You're so dope

While I'm grateful for this kind of help, I still think it's risky, and that we need to get rid of the height differences.
Oh no , no way, it is too dangerous. I wouldn't even try it. I have spent many hours nagging at the council to get the curbs dropped and our disability forum is being very pro-active and getting this done all over town. Disable people have enough problems in their everyday life without taking risks like this. Get on to your council and get them to take the danger out of disable people's lives, you do pay taxes don't forget.
+Pam Jones Yeah we do pay taxes but who wants to waste tax money lowering all the curbs that already exist just because someone wants to be a sissy and not pop over or down a curb! Just watch Wheels from Nitro Circus!
our pavements are lowered at drive ways so when I'm at top of my hill it's hard to stay straight and because there private houses makes it harder to go down and usually need a carer to kind of guide me.
Kenny Campbell Jr Now now, Kenny! That's not easy for everyone.
