Can you help me with my CDPC400 Sony Compact player? It’s making a clicking sound, even when turned off, & the tray will not open.
@@EGGZiX only way to know what's wrong is to take it apart. Its probably jammed, or one of the belts is bad.
@@Electronicle, everything seems to be moving properly. It’s the piece that rising to read the CD.. it’s a tiny white knob that spins against a black gear, & it’s like it’s skipping or something. It’s hard to explain but it doesn’t look jammed. Figured I’d ask. Thanks.

I have this exact unit. It does something weird. It opens, then the draw retracts into the body of the CD player, then it automatically reopens, as if to eject a disc. So, I can turn it on, open the drawer, load a CD, then close the drawer - then the drawer won't stay in the closed position. What have I got? Easy? Hard? Forget it? I will appreciate your feedback, and I will be happy to "buy you a cup of coffee" for your time and effort.
My rotary belt had come off. I put it back on and ordered a replacement in case it breaks. The error message, just said ERROR and it sounded like something was just spinning. I am amazed such a little rubber belt turns the whole tray around! Thank you for saving my 20 year old disc player!!!!

Thank you! Got a used CD player shipped (poorly packaged) and the drawer was stuck open. Seller refunded me AND I was able to fix it with this video. Oddly have a small white plastic piece that was loose- couldn't figure out where it fits but it everything is working for now.
Two days and two 5 disc tray players repaired thanks to your videos. One is for our church and one is at our home. The one at home was skipping and needed a minor adjustment to the potentiometer. (I found that the "guts" of the Kenwood machine were supplied by Sony.) For the one at church, someone had gotten the gears out of sync. Now it's working like a new unit. I have a Sony 5-disc player very similar to this one and its tray was out of alignment. I have a tech degree and opened up the top to look inside, but no obvious problem was apparent, so looked up a tutorial and found yours. It was perfect for me! Different symptoms, but dismantling it and letting it reset and realign as you did here solved my issue. My player and the one you fixed were virtually identical inside, so everything you did I could follow on mine.
Thanks again, man, so you saved me taking it to a shop or buying a new one. Mine's 20 years old and is now as good as new. I checked the sprockets and belts and they still seem fine, so I'm good to go. CDs play fine and no misalignment issues anymore.

Different model but same build. I really had to lube everything up good, I think the motor needs oil. Picked up at a GW and there was A LOT of dust, I think it was stored in a garage for a long time.

Thank you so much. 3 weeks ago when loading my cdp-c345 one of the discs wasn't firmly in the tray and when it closed it jarred the drawer. The drawer would close but could tell it wasn't closing properly. Soon the tray stopped turning at different intervals when on random and the last straw was when I placed one disc in a tray and closed it out made a horrible noise, the drawer opened back up and no disc. Then the drawer closed again, more horrible noises and the drawer reopened with the disc back in the tray. Watched your video that was very easy to understand and got the gears realigned. Put it back together and played it on shuffle for 6 hours straight with no issues. Thanks!!
My Sony CD Player would not open. I used the screw underneath to get the 5 disc tray to open partially and you showed me how to open the cover where I found a stuck CD. Thank you for the instructions, it works like new now. I told my wife not to leave any disks in the machine from now on!

Thanks for your excellent video with calm and detailed instructions. Thanks to you, I saved a Sony CDP-C335 from the land fill. I got it with a jammed disc drawer and found the Lever Lock ( Drawer ? ) end broken off. Some super glue and steel wire embedded in Plastic Epoxy hopefully fixed that for some more years. I think someone tried to yank the drawer out in order to remove the CD that was still in the drive.
The "automatic Home" calibration was key in verifying the repair afterwards. I've taken apart my Sony CDP-C435 several times because of a yet unresolved intermittent Disc Exchange issue and always was hit and miss to determine how to establish that Home position.
As of yet, the CDP-C435 5 disc tray sometimes has a mind of its own and just spins one way or another like it is lost. Wondering if it is a bad ribbon cable or photo detector?

You are a repair genius. My stereo has this same problem. It's getting slower by rotating the CDs in the tray and getting stuck. You sound like Cary Holzman. He does computer repairs. 🙂
Bought the same unit 24 years ago. Recently I transported with a disk, came loose inside And jammed, since then, it's not working correctly. Will try the steps in your video. Are the belts for the c? D drive very specific or generic. Greatly appreciate your tutorial.Gave you a thumbs up and Is subscribed. Paid about $400 or so back in 2000 I figure it's gonna cost around 1500 to get the same sound quality.

Thanks for this video. Just to confirm, the toothed belt handles the door open/close, and the smaller belt under the tray spins the tray around into the 5 different positions?
So this looks like something I could do since you've done a good job of showing how to do it. If that was my unit, I'd want to replace that toothed belt as well since it looked pretty loose. BUT, my question is, where do I get those belts?? This thing is quite old and I'm afraid parts will be very hard to come by.

I have a CDP-CE235. I set the gears to their home position but when i put the drawer in and test it the drawer will not stay closed. When I took the top off there were 4 cd's jammed up in the turn table and a little white plastic part that I have no idea where it came from. Any suggestions? mine tray had jumped the track and would not close the last 3 millimeters. this causes nothing to work correctly. so watching the video was helpful.

Should I do the tray realignment when it comes to the laser mechanism being slightly off when it tries to pick a disc? The tray seems to work correctly until you want to play a disc. When the laser pops up to read the disc it tends to collide with the tray and rejects trying to read the disc.
great video for disassy and assy and access to belts, and didn't know about finding home position... how would you improve lubrication of this tray? I know on some older equipment that white grease gets hard and sticky... would you clean and put some new lube on the gears and sliding rails?
So I have the 3 in 1 head unit or 4 in one or whatever and for some reason this keeps making constant noise now the carousel is broken and unusable but the rest works perfectly fine and i wanted to know what i should do to try and fix that.

All works well, however the disc 3 and 5 will have a hard time picking up and spin the disc. At times it will screech when picking up, but will not spin. Took the cover off, but cannot figure out where the problem is. Any suggestions anyone?
Sounds like belts are getting stretched and slipping.
Do what he did here. Take it apart, including removing the tray, and let the gears reset and realign. It can't make the problem worse and will likely fix it (worked for me, my tray was out of alignment, but works fine now).
Help me figure out the belt wasn't my issue. I fixed the problem with an additional step.thank you kindly😊

Great video, thanks. I have the exact same unit, belts are fine but I followed along and did all the same other repairs, aligned it but it still won’t work. When drawer is all the way in, still sticks out 1/4”. Drawer only comes out most of the way when I hit the open button. CD transport now won’t engage. Disc tray turns ok, lines up right with transport which was off before. Any tips? Nearly there, it seems.
I have a mini component with a VERY similar cd exchanger, check the alignment of the cogs, one of them has weird notches that only allow it to rotate/open certain distance
Thanks for the video. Have a cd/tape deck/radio Sony all in one unit, and the gears driving the tray won't stop spinning. Found a snapped belt on one of the cd trays. I suspect it is the same issue as this video. Would the process be the same and are the belt replacements still available from Amazon/Ebay? Cheers
I have an old aiwa 5 cd changer carousel that opens and closes multiple times before accepting a disc and you can forget having it on random when loading more discs as it will just open again when changing disc. I assume belts need replaced. Some discs it just won't play, but same disc plays in car player. Is a big clunky old unit but I'd rather repair than ditch.
Also, clean the laser heads and any gears. Also, lube the gears with the "Moly" stuff (similar to silicone but better for electronics). Good Luck.

can't get the wider white belt to come out. don't want to force it. does the black plastic come with it. the thinner white came right out of the slot it was in.
My unit wouldn't open. I took the top off and found one of the cds stuck under the mechanism. I pulled it out and voila..it works perfectly!!
Would this be the same process for sony scd-c222es? Have not used it in over a year and when I pressed the eject button it would just make a grinding sound.
I have a six disk Sony CD changer. It isn't a carousel nor cartridge type. It has five drawers for CD s and a single one for CD R. The 5th drawer for CD won't open. The belt makes a squealing sound when trying to get to disk 5. You think it may be a problem with the 5th tray itself? Now, I didn't have a problem getting tray 5 to open after holding both doors open on the 5 disk changer part. So I don't know what the problem may be.
The key to salesmanship. Sell a package of 100 belts you don't need but includes only one of the belt you'll ever need. They make 100 belts in a factory for a few cents and sell them for $10. Genius.
I have a Sony CDP-C331 model have had for a very long time. In 2019 I had to place my property in storage due to unemployment, the player was wrapped in a bath towel, transit key installed, the unit placed inside of a bedroom chest of drawers and the chest placed in storage, for almost a year. Its been out for 2 years, plugged in but not used, they transit key was removed. I turned the unit on today...the tray will not come out, so I took the lid off, the optical chassis is in the closed/up position, slightly bouncing like a heart beat, it will not go down.....before I completely open this unit, have any suggestions/recommendations on what is wrong?
Thanks. I wonder if this is the same problem for my parent's 1993 Sony SEN-231CD (HST-231/CDP-C231)? The tray won't open. I unplugged the power receptacles and disconnected all the parts - everything needed a good dusting and cleaning [Round 1]. While cleaning and dusting the system, I noticed that the left speaker was connected with a spliced connection wire and it needed some attention. I stripped the wires and spliced a new clean connection. I want to get a better wire because this wire was half copper and aluminum (?) speaker wire. I want to purchase a better speaker wire that is copper (+) and copper (-) . Tomorrow or next week will be Round 2.
Well, today , Sunday, October 29, 2023, is Round 2 for my troubleshooting my parent's compact disc player. I initially removed the cover and noticed a black piece of rubber sitting on top of the CD Tray - I suspect it is a belt, but it appears to be a smooth belt. I think it may be the belt that was identified in this video at 3:40. I guess I need to remove the bottom case panel. Wish me luck!

I just bought a 305 yesterday that did not have a remote control. with 5 discs in and it worked great, I lifted up the back to take a photo of the model number, one of the discs
came out of the tray and now the drawer will not open. HELP with advice if You can. I dont dare turn it upside down to use screwdriver on that special bottom screw.
also looking on ebay for a remote, none for sale mention the 305, so I do not know if they would work with wifes 5 disk player that she is gonna kill me if I dont fix it.

+electronicle I have a sharp brand 3 disc carousel stereo with cd player/radio & 2 tape decks in the 1 unit.
3cds are stuck inside the unit & when i power it up the lcd display says ER (error?)
On powerup i can hear the disc platter rotate once but front panel buttons dont respond,about a month ago it would play ok but was erratic bcos the drawer would constantly open & close by itself while 1 disc was playing,any help u could offer would b appreciated as its been driving me crazy for some time ☹☹

Would it be a belt or alignment problem if the tray keeps opening and closing on its own? Mine does that repeatedly. Sometimes it will sort of slam open. It will usually close and play after a while or after I mess around with pushing buttons.
I have one just like this ,but it doesn't have this kind of problem but it seems to have a mind of its own ,it works but I have to turn it on a few times before it starts playing. The tray comes in an out on it own ,when I try to close it just spins
I have a SONY CDP-C315. The toothed belt appears to be missing a few teeth. The other smooth belt seems rather stiff or slightly hardened. My carousel does not turn so I am guessing these are my problem. I have looked on Amazon and EBay but can’t find replacement belts as yet. Any help on where to find would be greatly appreciated. I have a Sony CDP-C445 five-disc cd player. Sometimes the laser unit apparently does not drop the played cd directly back into its round tray compartment, but drops the cd onto the carousel itself outside of the cd's round tray compartment which jams the carousel. This has occurred about 5-6 times in the last year. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
I have this model and mine is making a terrible motornoice and it has problems playing the cd's.
When it finally starts to play a disc it sounds horrid, no problem with it the last time i used it.
It started to act up when playing Bowie, i guess his music was to powerful.
It will also skip cd's, my estimate is that some electronics in it has given up.
I bought it for like $11 so no big loss there.

You say it makes a horrid noise but I'm not sure what exactly that horrid noise sounds like. High pitched whirring or a scrapping ?
What do i search to get the assorted belt kit on ebay/amazon? I need belts for a 60disk mini system and i cant find any part numbers for the belt kits i need for this thing. They are all shot. Tape decks.....carousel motor etc. I have the unit apart but i cant find a manual with part numbers for the belts i need. Hoping to get an assortment pack and try to measure them up to my old rotted ones at this point. Be a shame to let this thing head for the trash. Its like new. Only a few hours on it total but i went to turn it on and surprise.....junk.
This video is gold. However, when I got to the tray motor/gear/belt, I found the belt to be in great condition but the plastic gear is toast. Ideas for finding that part?
I'll look later to see if I have a service manual and the part number. Doubt Sony still stocks em. Could either 3d print one or find a dead parts unit on ebay for cheap. Who knows, with the part number someone might be selling just the gear on ebay.

Mine needs work and since I've got a new receiver for Christmas the whole system needs to be taken apart and reconnected. I now have an excuse to play with the changer.
I have this player it came with the 5 disc tray but I changed it to a single disc...this would not come out and it wasn't bumped in fact had not been used to a few years...just froze up

I have similar problem with my CD Sony Changer model CDP-C365 . Sometimes happened , when the pressed play button the tray is opened themselves and stuck and players tray seaching position and sometimes not find and leave dics on neighbor disc . Keys not working , i must power off CD player and turn on again after that error. Do you think thats is Faulty pickup sensor or belt?
Another common problem with this series is the tray flex cable breaks and it causes it to continually rotate.

It's does not stay open when you press the open/close button.
Is I press it a number of times it will stop and stay open.
Could it just need a cleaning inside?
Platform that lifts optical after tray resets won't lower to allow tray to come out.
Initial prob was drawer wouldn't close last 1-2 inches.

No just don't look into the laser. Plus it's only a class 1 laser. No different than a laser pointer

sounds like somethings hung up or a bad belt...can't remember if this unit uses a belt to open the drawer. Regardless...open it up and take a look :)

for experience.....you must to change all the belts ...if the CD player has 2 o 3...just replace it ....
