- The 12-0, #1 Alabama Crimson Tide and the 8-3, #15 Florida Gators met in Atlanta, GA for the 25th SEC Championship Game. This was the final SEC Championship to be played in the Georgia Dome. With the win, Alabama secured its 30th conference championship (7th most in a major conference), 26th SEC championship (most all-time), and 7th SEC championship in the Championship Game era (tied with Florida for the most all-time). This was also the first time since 1977-1979 that Alabama had won three consecutive SEC titles and only the second time any team had done so in the Championship Game era.

@@baileybaker2488 if you remember we had several games where we could not move the ball. Would stall out due to no passing game. Jalen improved alot from 2016-2019 but his 2 years as starter our pass game was awful. Like 115 yds a game awful

@@baileybaker2488 he improved a ton. His last year at Bama in 2018 and his year at OU he was way better but those 2 years starting were ROUGH passing. Im happy for him though. He's a good kid. Worked hard

I noticed that when it was first broadcast and found it strange, as well. After thinking about it for a while, I decided he said it because Hamilton is about to be tackled and Verne suggested he should lateral the ball back to Fitzpatrick so the play could result in a touchdown. However, that's pretty foolish. Florida could then get the ball back in the fairly likely event that the lateral went wrong, so it's a smarter play to just get the 1st and 10 from the Florida 12 and let the offense try to punch it in. To say nothing of the fact that there's no way Hamilton could have known where Fitzpatrick was or whether he was about to throw the ball directly to a Florida player.
Verne was prone to blurting out a lot of weird things. I'm trying to think of the specific game, but guy went down, basic tackle at the scrimmage line, and he yells "And it's a fumble!"...I just...sigh. The guy was clearly not paying very good attention a lot of the time, either on purpose or because of other factors. I know a lot of people who'd watch the SEC on CBS with the audio off and stream Eli Gold's commentary over it.

@@retronerds6884 the defense was on the field the entire second half because Jalen couldn’t get a first down. Even if he scored that touchdown, the defense was still exhausted and Deshaun took advantage of that. Jalen was awful this entire game.

Bama beat Tennessee 49-10 that season in Knoxville, so I think it would've been a similar blowout to this game regardless.

@@cxshapp.dvstin They didn't have the same record. Florida was 6-2 in conference while Tennessee was 4-4. Conference record is what determines who wins the division.
