David Brenner was one of the funniest comedians that we have had the privilege to hear. Brilliantly hilarious. God Bless you David, and many condolences to the Brenner family... your loss is OUR loss.
David appeared on the Carson Tonight Show 158 times. That is the alltime record for anyone appearing on the Tonight Show hosted by anyone. And this debut was the beginning of the recorded setting appearances. I met David once and he treated me like a friend. He actually talked to me for like two minutes. That may not seem long. But, I'm not famous. RIP. David Brenner.
158 times, wow, I remember how smooth and funny he was, and always appreciated his comments about different parts of the country, including the South where I am from.
He always held my attention because you didn't know what was coming next, and when you thought you knew the plot of what he was saying bam! he would go left field on ya. Condolences to David's family and friends, he was a good one.
RIP to a legend. I'm a journalist and had the honor to interview him a year ago. We spent 35 minutes on the phone. He was humble and very down to earth. He will be missed. My condolences to his family and loved ones. Definitely an original.
I remember when I moved out to New Jersey back in 83. Taco Bell made him their spokesman. He introduced the burrito to Philadelphians as a Mexican hoagie. He was such a marvelous human being.
They said Jerry Seinfeld was a young boy in Long Island who stayed up late one night and saw this and decided to be a comedian the next day as he ate his Capn Crunchy
I believe this appearance made him an instant sensation. He was quickly on "all" the talk shows, including 158 times on the Tonight Show. And PBK0909 is right, all of Johnny Carson's Tonight Shows were broadcast in color, but in many cases the only record of those shows are black and white films of the broadcast.
Simply a wonderful talented gentleman. Missed so very much by all who had the fortune of knowing him. A very very rare gentleman. The world misses him. I pray there is a heaven because if there is he’s gonna be there entertaining God.....
I started watching David at this period of time when I was a boy. I still think of him as a young comedian just starting his career. I was saddened to find out he had died. .He was always funny and he could connect with any audience
so sad to hear of him passing. Just a wonderful comedian. Not sure the clips on You Tube really do him justice. He was a very very strong stand-up comedian.
@Fredmyyster I saw him, FINALLY in St. Louis, MO about 8 years ago. I've always loved him. Such a cool guy, so funny...and I occasionally lusted after him. ;-) His looks are a cross between Native American and E. Coast urban Jew. A funny combination & TOTALLY appropriate for a comedian!
I used to run into this guy in Philly or Washington Park in Manhattan. Embarrassing moment. Me: Why do you do that thing, is that part of your act. Him: What thing? Me: with the "l's" and the "Rs". Him: What thing!? You don't say L's . To make a long story short double L translated as w so really was reawy. He'd heard it all before or he is exceedly fast on his feet and had me in stitches with word jokes. I was gonna buy him a cigar at Nat Sherman's, he was trying to quit cigarettes.
When you think of all the comedians who are really hot and everything thinks they're a genius, but then they are only around for a few years and then gone. Brenner is a humble guy who's had a long career and is still working!
Wow, that last piece about the body was great. Wouldn't have worked without the body movements though... brilliant. Rip and thanks for making us laugh David.
Very clean and funny comedy. My mother loved his sense of humor. He was great! The guys who did weekend at Bernie's must have seen this video and said, "aha, I have a great idea for a movie. A dead guy doing stuff on the weekend". LOL
Timeless stand up everything you said was relatable nobody walks in LA. New York is still crowded and dangerous. Everything except maps having to unfold to 20 times and natural size. Everything was right on

Everybody Loves David

Always left me laughing. Not a mean spirited or vulgar comedian -- Just funny and very real.
RIP, David.
Yeah he actually had talent.
- "Not vulgar"
- Tells a joke about a corpse getting mugged and raped
@@HiMyNameIsAlex_Music I noticed that too and was gonna reply but I thought, "nah it'd be crazy to reply to a 6 year old comment."
🤣

ah, the good ole days. When someone like David Brenner was considered "warped"

A rape joke on national television in 1971. David Brenner was way ahead of his time.
You were the genuine article, David. RIP.

RIP David Brenner!
Rest in peace, thanks for the laughs and mind expansion!
Wow, that last piece about the body was great. Wouldn't have worked without the body movements though... brilliant. Rip and thanks for making us laugh David.
I wonder if the writers of the movie "Weekend at Bernie's" saw this ...
Great guy, RIP.
RIP, David!
R.I.P 3/15/14
I just realized where they got the whole idea for the movie weekend at Bernie's. They should put David Brenner's name on the credits posthumously!
RIP David Brenner. You always made me laugh!
R.I.P. funny man
3:02 Is this the first "did you ever notice" in comedy?
RIP David
Love those Philadelphia guys.
He was such a wonderful person.
R I P David
I always enjoyed him!
"I did good ---why should i come back?"--- he even quoted this in his book "Soft Pretzels with Mustard".
Not one "This is a true story" from Brenner at all...this is amazing because that phrase became his career.
At 5:08 the birth of the term “Nobody walks in L.A.” later used by Missing Persons in song.
A great one, gone.
Early sixties. Johnny looks so young.
1971.
Very clean and funny comedy. My mother loved his sense of humor. He was great! The guys who did weekend at Bernie's must have seen this video and said, "aha, I have a great idea for a movie. A dead guy doing stuff on the weekend". LOL
Brenner does not get the recognition he deserves.
RIP…. :(
He's right about Los Angeles. That's how LA really is
David one of my favorite comedians ...clean, positive performance 👏
Always thought David Brenner was a hottie. Other people thought I was daft.
2023. Still funny. Never saw this before.
Not being sure he did good or not, Brenner came back 157 more times...practice, practice, practice!
This was 50 years ago.
WOW!...just wow....
R.I.P.
06:25 great stuff, boom!
This is making me laugh so hard
He was always older than he claimed.
Johnny introduced him on the ToGod Show...........last week.
@PBK0909 Ah, but it adds to that historic ambience!
LOL‼️ 😂😂 LOL‼️ 😂 🤣👍🏼🤗💖
This routine is full of fun references.
@Delmarvellous That is so cool and to funny lil miss !
Timeless stand up everything you said was relatable nobody walks in LA. New York is still crowded and dangerous. Everything except maps having to unfold to 20 times and natural size. Everything was right on
Beware the Ides of March!
At 5:00 "Nobody walks in L.A."
Brenner was good
He wasn't amazing or anything, but he was good
Is David Brenner the source of Seinfeld's approach?
Ray Romano?
I see where Seinfeld stole from..
probably could have done the panel first time out if he waited out the applause
I saw him on a double bill with Joan Rivers in '72.....
Always so funny.
Precursor to Sienfeld.
You are right, I never thought of it but yeah.
Brenner's left shadow is a bit crooked..hope they can change that on the DVD.
