It is and it isn't. Since it started League was basically a map and a couple of locations/factions with probably less than a page of lore each. There was some lore to basically cement how the game is played and why it is there from a lore standpoint. That lore you can find within the unofficial League wiki (they keep practically everything). It wasn't until late-2014 did Riot announce plans to completely overhaul/re-work the lore of League of Legends. This was probably the first step into their future plans to expand the League lore and universe out into more mediums. To date they have made Legends of Runeterra (a card game similar to Hearthstone) as well as Valorant (a hero-shooter very much like CS:GO). They of course made Arcane as an animated series, and they announced back in 2016 they have an MMO in the works. And of course the Ruined King game (an RPG similar in format to Battle-Chasers).
The first actual move in terms of story-driven lore was back in 2015, where they made a "Burning Tides". It was an in-game event which spanned four weeks which unfolded a story of the shifting of power within Bilgewater. It was basically playing League games to gain specific points to unlock small pieces of the story (the story in its entirety was later released at event's end). And on top of many Bilgewater champion getting more piratey-themed skines, one of them had a completely reworked classic model and skin as part of the story.
The next real step didn't get taken until mid-2020, with the Spirit Blossoms event. This one more highlighted the mystic lands of Ionia, and added less of a larger story but more of a path with dialogue with several characters. Like before, you played League games to gain points in order to progress across a static map. But this time there was more of a concise direction, making it similar to many novella-styled games which acted like interactive books. And of course several Ionian champions received Spirit Blossom skins and some got differently themed skin.
And they took another stab at it last year with the Sentinels of Light event. And while this event provided the most concise lore point (basically the why and how to the Shadow Isles) it also turned out to be very disappointing for players. While all champions involved got either Sentinel skin or a Ruined skin, ultimate the story felt rushed and cobbled together. None of the champions had any real thematic connection to each other outside being recruited by Lucian and Senna, and even the cinematic didn't exactly add up to the story at the end. You'd notice going back more than a few Sentinels were missing in the final cinematic, like Olaf and Rengar. Largely the playerbase felt too much time was spent for not enough reward, and it as a whole felt incomplete.
And then ARCANE happened, and from the looks of it changed everything. It looked to be a runaway and unexpected success, even by Riot's predictions. And while Arcane is claimed to not be canon (the studio who produced had their writers go through the League universe portal) you can bet Riot will likely make it canon later. But now season 2 is in the works, Riot's further expanding the League lore through both their universe portal, their upcoming MMO, and other still unveiled projects, it's look pretty good.
As for the question for what could be next for Arcane once the Piltover/Zaun thing wraps up? And while that could be years from now, right now my best guess would be Bilgewater. Presently it is one of the two most fleshed-out regions, and Ionia would... Need more work. Ionia had something of an incident pre-retconn, and the bits of lore we have been given that incident is still intact. The problem is that incident was predicated on events which have been erased (as we know). That could be a little trickier to parse out later, but Bilgewater has more potential right now. For one, PIRATES! The region is essentially an archipelago of islands, with the main city of Bilgewater sitting on the largest one. From what can be seen the place is a pirate haven and smuggler's den, who happens to be ruled by whoever has the strongest crew at the time. It has the feel less than a nation, with it seemingly dependent on either trade or piracy to provide goods and non-fish-cased food. But the REAL hook here is, "What is someone wanted more?" What if one champion decided they wanted Bilgewater to be more? To be its own nation? That could spark the other nations to respond, because the only thing worse than a pirate's den is an ORGANIZED pirate's den. Piracy and raiding provides a perfect opportunity to showcase other regions of Runeterra without having to invest as much into it. Like a "teaser" of the other lands, but who knows?

@@gabelous5049 That's not completely true. LoL had a pretty in depth lore back when it was first released. Basically after the last Rune War the League of Legends was established to mediate the differences between nations to prevent war. Representatives from each nation (Champions) would meet at the LoL, allow themselves to be controlled by the Summoners to fight in the ring (the game). In other words the game was actually Canon and you were the summoner.
Back then the main source of lore was the Journal of Justice and the Champion interviews. They completely retconned the system in 2011/2012 however because the framework restricted the development of the lore and by extension the game. For a period of time there was very little lore that was Canon and that included the champion bios, most of which were slowly rewritten. You can still see vestiges of the original lore ingame such as referrences to "Summoner" or even the game itself. The current lore also reuses elements of the old lore heavily.

I also wanted to talk briefly about Noxus and Demacia. When Darius is fighting Samira, there was a comment about how Darius was supposed to be kind of a bad guy. When the game was first made, Noxus and Demacia were a very clear cut good versus evil. Like Gondor versus Mordor. As the lore has become more complex the two nations have become much more nuanced.
These days, Noxus is a warlike, tough meritocracy. Sure life there can be harsh, but anyone of any station can gain rank and prestige by demonstrating skill or strength. When they conquer a nation, everyone (even the soldiers who fought against Noxus) is offered full citizenship in Noxus or the option to depart and find a new home. The law in Noxus is absolute, and applies to everyone. There are also hints in dialog and some of the teasers that the leader of Noxus, Jericho Swain, is trying to unite as many nations as he can before... something bad happens. (Ex: "Would they still struggle to survive if they could see what is to come?")
Demacia, on the other hand, is a wonderful fantasy Utopia. Unless you're a mage. For most people, Demacia is a paradise. The lower classes are treated well, the upper classes are held to a high code of conduct, they deal peacefully with (most) other countries, education and artisanal training is widespread, and life is good. If you're a mage, however, Demacia is a brutal apartheid state. Mages, regardless of their actions, are treated like subhumans at best, monsters at worst. There are signs of change however: Garen's sister Lux Crownguard, Shyvana the half-dragon (the dragon in the cinematic), the mute musician-mage Sona, and the angel Kayle are all characters that have gained varying degrees of acceptance in Demacia.
So yeah, it's a little more nuanced than Demacia Good, Noxus Bad.

    • @B.Scruby
      @B.Scruby Před 2 lety +5

It's also worth noting that the biggest reason Demacia hates magic is because of the devestation it caused during the Rune Wars. Except because of this paranoia, it willfully ignores its own history when it comes to Magic making most if not all who impose the anti-magic law, hypocrites. Garen for example, when Swain hints in his dialogue about him hating magic but being blind to the magic he carries into every battle he goes to. Lux might be more powerful but Garen definitely has innate magical abilities that manifests differently.
Even their protector statue, Galio is ONLY powered by magic. He only comes alive when there's a boat load of magic power near him, and Lux is said to be powerful enough to actually awaken Galio by herself. Which is why she's his only friend.
Poppy also is a magical being and yet is completely accepted in Demacia. She's literally one of the inspirations for the founding of Demacia. She's also carrying a magically imbued hammer, basically Demacian Mjölnir, that was once owned by the the founder of Demacia himself. She was told it belongs to and could only be used by a Hero of Demacia, and without knowing it could be her, so she's lived for centuries looking for but not finding a suitabale candidate. Even the Jarvans weren't worthy of the hammer.
As for Noxus, this is hella tricky because of the existence of the Black Rose. Initially, Riot said they ruled Noxus openly, then disappeared and the Triumvirate came except the Black Rose was still manipulating things behind the scenes. Not sure if this got retconned but apparently, the new lore says thay Mordekaiser has had something to do with the formation of the Empire. Which is supposedly where the "strength is what matters and with it, you can take anything" national creed came from. They used to conquer stuff to show their strength and to generally just be dicks towards their closest neighbor but following their massive defeat in Ionia, they apprently stopped. Now i have no real clue as to what Jericho is doing and what for but they seem to be going back to their roots. After being corrupted by weakness from the nobles houses that started after the disappearances of Darkwill and Du Coutaeu, they regained control after Darius and Jericho took over. Except i no longer have any idea who the third seat of the Triumvirate is, because there's no way in hell it could be Katarina and it can't be Talon either. There's just too many factors and people that are similtaneously in play in Noxus that it's generally hard to know what their true alignment or agenda is at any given moment.

    • @sthepcorms6747
      @sthepcorms6747 Před 2 lety +2

The problem was that with Sylas' revolt, things got worse and now magic and mages are really hated, they are now treated badly and one slightest mistake and they are fucked.

My guess is that the mine that Undercity works in is actually a portal to an Abyssal plane. Someone in Piltover summoned/opened the portal. It explains why there is such a difference between Piltover and Undercity, where the little demons that plague the undercity shores of the river between the cities come from, and the plants that shimmer comes from. Some connection to the Void and Void creatures. Demons suppressing compassion, inflicting depression and jealousy, fermenting suspicion and corruption, in order to harvest negative emotional energy among both populations. Meanwhile the summoner/opener experiences untold success and comfort at the expense of everyone else. Anyway, just some thoughts.

Lady with huge canon : Senna, Sentinel of Light, got sucked into Thresh's lantern and was trapped in there until she was saved by Lucian, they're now on a mission to recruit more sentinels and stop Viego.
Samurai : Yasuo, exiled after being framed for the death of his master
Fox Lady : Ahri, doesn't really have a plot IIRC, she just wants to seduce people and take their soul, although she feels guilty about it. I think she
wants to find a way stay alive without having to do that?

Although he's just insane at this point and thinks everyone is on that list, and if they aren't he'll make up a reason for them to be on there.
Guy with the shotgun : Graves, bilgewater criminal, partner in crime of Twisted Fate, nothing more to it.
Pirate Lady : Sarah Fortune, pirate captain, her guns were made by her parents for a young sailor(at the time, now he's the most feared pirate captain) named Gangplank, who used said guns to kill Sarahs parents.
Lady that carries a skull(the muscular one in the ruined king announcement trailer) : Illaoi, high priestess of a great sea serpent god named Nagakabouros, she's the one that saved Gangplank from death by putting him through a trial if he's worthy enough to continue living.
Lady with Crossbow : Vayne, parents got killed by monsters, she's now obsessed with killing monsters.
Lady that transforms into a Dragon : Shyvana, crossbreed of dragon and human, trusted by the King of Demacia after they fought side-by-side. But since she's technically not fully human, Vayne hates her with all her heart and the only reason she doesn't kill her is because Shyvana is very close to the king.
Little furball(Yordle) with a hammer : Poppy, yordle with a big hammer that she inherrited from her master, set out to find the next hero that is worthy to wield said hammer, not knowing it's herself.
Lady that fights the mist alone on the circle platform : Karma, spiritual leader of Ionia, incarnation of the will of Ionia.
Guy with big axe : Darius, noxian general.
Lady with sword and gun : Samira, former slave, but due to noxus's mentality of "The strong will rise, the weak will die", she managed to climb out of slavedom and is now a mercenary for hire.
Guy with the pistol / grappling hook : Akshan, sentinel of light, his gun is a relic called the Absolver. It revives people if the gun kills the dead peoples killer. And since Isolde is technically the reason why Senna died (She died due to Isolde's soul leaving her body), Akshan revived
    Senna by destroying Isolde.
Guy with the spear at the end : Pantheon, demi-god of mount targon, will NOT use his powers if fighting against someone that he deems unworthy. (The reason why he's the bad guy here : Viego/The Black Mist has the ability to mind-control people and serve Viego. Pantheon and Shyvana fell victim to that. (And others that weren't shown to be corrupted in the cinematic like, Draven, Karma and Miss Fortune, there were also some Sentinels that weren't shown in the cinematic : Irelia, Diana, Riven and Rengar)
Lady with giant scissors : Gwen, a doll made by Isolde, came to life after absorbing part of her soul and helps the Sentinels stop Viego, since she's basically a fragment of Isolde's personality and as we saw Isolde doesn't want Viego to do what he's doing.
Skeleton with chainscythe&lantern : Thresh, warden of souls on the shadow isles, plotting ,and through the victory of the sentinels succeeding, in overthrowing Viego and be free to do whatever he wants.
Guy that tries to kill literally everything to bring back his queen : Viego, former prince of Camavor (The place they entered through the portal in the last cinematic), lost his love Isolde, revived her on the blessed isles, succeeded, things took a 180° turn real quick as Isolde refused to let that happen, struck Viego with his own sword (Hence the hole in his chest) and therefor just half-finishing the ritual, so Isolde, instead of getting revived, got split into many pieces. One is inside Senna, one is inside Gwen(a doll Isolde made, as she was a seamstress, came to life after absorbing a part of Isoldes soul) and the rest is in different objects around the world.
There's entire books worth of story about each of those characters, but that's the general gist of things on how they came to be where they're at now.

Also, Viego wasn't good before, he was useless, he didn't want to be king but he was the only option and so they crowned him for lack of another option. Then he got Isolde and ignored everything but her, then lost her and destroyed everything in a fit of rage. He was basically an indolent adolescent that didn't give a shit about anyone, I still can't explain to myself how Isolde ended up loving him.

To answer some of the questions:
Isolde died when Viego was attacked, his niece Kalista blocked a poisoned dagger meant for Viego and the dagger hit Isolde. She was sent to find a cure but when she returned, Isolde was already dead. She thought when Viego understands there's no way to save her anymore when the people of the Blessed Isles tell him that you cant trick death but he already lost his mind, ordering Kalista to kill them so Viego can try to save Isolde. Kalista refused and got killed by Hecarim. Thresh brough Viego to the waters of life and when he put her into it, Isolde returned to light but cause she was taken from her rest she killed Viego and caused the cataclysm turning the Blessed Isles into the Shadow Isles and the white mist protecting the isles turned into the black mist.
This could already be outdated tho cause there's a whole book about the background with Viego, Isolde, Kalista and everyone but I didn't found time to read it yet.
The game Ruined King is set before the Sentinels of Light story, it's a great game with an amazing story. The only thing not making sense at all is that Sarah Fortune changed sides to Viego during the Ruination Event which contradicts her whole story arc in the game. She, Ahri and Braum are by far my favorite characters in Ruined King.
And don't worry, most people think Ahri looks good, it's an open secret in the League Community ;)

Because it shows up in the cinematics, in game Senna is actually a support. She deals a lot of damage, but she can also shoot through her allies to heal them, as we see in these videos. She can also take on a ghostly form and fill the area around her with black mist, allowing allies who stay close to her to also take on that ghostly form. Similarly, Lucian's kit incorporates a lot of mobility, including a teleportation ability, as we see him use here.

The Ruined King RPG was supposed to come out before the champion in the game, the very first time we ever saw him was in that launch trailer, the coolest thing is that mega giant Riot let the much smaller studio, Airship Syndicate essentially come up with the design directions for one of the longest referenced characters in their game, because the game was supposed to be our introduction to him. Didn't go that way because COVID delayed it massively but that was the plan

Ahh, The Ruination. I'm so torn on this event, and there is a LOT to say about it. On the one hand, I love that they went ambitious with such a large scale event, focused around the release of the single player Ruined King game (which by the way is fantastic, but sadly got delayed which sort of threw off parts of the narrative for the rest of the event). On the other hand, the event itself took such a massive dump on Runeterra lore, which wouldn't be apparent to those watching these for the first time. A lot of this story was told in the LoL client as a visual novel (these are the bits you see as catchups with Akshan), where you teleported all over the world to recruit new sentinels. A neat idea, but their choices for which champions were included was baffling, many of them were just there to give the odd one liner, or would act completely out of character. Meanwhile there are champions such as Yorick (You will have seen his Pentakill skin in Mortal Reminder), who's lore is entirely based around the ruined king, who were either on screen for 30 seconds, or omitted entirely. As others have mentioned, Necrit's Ruining the Ruination video probably explains the problems best.
Still though, they've said that despite the poor reception, they're not done trying massive events like this so I'm hopeful!

As a long time league of legends player, it was awesome to see Lucian's story realized. When he was released in 2013, there was a lot of mystery surrounding the champion. His in game quotes mentioned Senna constantly and the community really wanted to know more about her and how they came to be. All we knew at the time of his release is that He and Senna were a couple that hunted the undead. One day Lucian and Senna take on Thresh, which ends up going horribly wrong. If I remember the story correctly, she goes to fight Thresh alone and ends up getting killed. Lucian arrives to late witnessing the soul theft. One of the pistols that Lucian uses actually belongs to Senna. When she was killed he started using both of pistols at once.
When it comes to Viego, I felt bad for the guy. He and Lucian essentially did the exact same thing just on different terms. They went on a rampage in an effort to get back their wives. One slaying demons and the other possessing human beings. Great reaction, Great video.

Until Isolde died due to assassination attempt to Viego which made Viego mad and obsessed of bringing her back. If you watch the cinematics all together to follow the ruination without some reading its hard to understand it on the first go, as the cinematics throw in a lot of features that have no meaning to the core story (like the dragon lady, the recruited people, which is basically just promo for the skinlines) Condensed down:
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom called camavor. The Ruler of this Kingdom passed early, so his brother got to the throne, unprepared. He was not a Bad person in general, just not ready to take the reign over a kingdom. This king fell in love with a seamtress called Isolde. he was so in love with her, that he started to neglect the kingdom in favor of her. One day, one of his political enemies tried to murder him by poison, which was prevented, but in his place Isolde was poisoned and died, so could one say, by a fate that sas meant for him.
The King was not ready to lose his love, so he searched for a way to bring her back, and he found a place called the Blessed Isles. He traveled there and asked for the natives to grant him access to the waters of life. they denied, but the king didnt accept this and tried to conquer the island, getting to the waters this way. Eventually a native named Thresh guided him to the waters, curious to what would happen. The king put the dead body of his queen into the waters and for a brief moment everything seemed as it worked fine, but something wasnt right. Even though she came back from the dead, Isolde was in great pain and disarray, not understand what happened to her, as she was pulled against her will from the dead. In her state of rage, pain and delusion, the returned queen stabbed the king with his own enchanted sword which started a process the people today call the ruination. In nthe process, the blessed isles where completely shattered and became what is today known as the shadow isles.
    Centuries pass...
In the process of the ruination, Isoldes soul was shattered. the fragments of her soul were scattered all over runeterra, binding to various people and artifacts (for example the music-box viego held in the last cinematic, or Senna). On the shadow isles, Thresh found a way to bring back the long gone king. Back into the world Viego only knows one goal. To bring back his beloved queen. At this point the black mist, before only enclosing the shadow isles spreads all over runeterra, reaching for the various fragments of isoldes soul, and possess everything that it reaches.
putting this as a summary before the wholething might help to fix in some holes into the watching expierience, together with some knowledge about the characters.
    - Gwen for example is a doll isolde made when she was alive which came alive by the power of one of isoldes soul fragments.
    - Akshan is a shuriman who was one of the first sentinels of light and owns a weapon which can revive people by killing their murderer.
    - Senna was possessed by a soul-fragment of isolde, which made the black mist follow her whererever she went, letting her become a sentinel of light pretty early. Also that was the reason Thresh got her at some point. When Senna was "kinda" dead, she gained a link to that fragment, being able to communicate with Isolde and also getting some powers against the mist when she was saved by Lucian.
the rest of the champions are just promo for the skinlines "Sentinel" and "Ruined" :D

The majority of the Ruination event happened within League of Legends (in the game client), in a visual novel game, and since nor everyone likes this kind of game and would just skip all the story, they made this recaps with Akshan, that really helps understand most of it. Still a lot of it is missing like how the Shadow Isles came to be. That's the thing with League's lore, they will tell stories in pretty much every media available, and sometimes is kinda hard to get it all. Thresh abilities revolve around throwing hooks and pulling players towards your allies, also using his lantern he can pull Allies to safety and use his prison to slow or fend off attackers. or imprison them with a hefty slow for his allies to clean up. A cool in-game interaction: when Gwen first encounters Viego in-game, she says "Viego... She hasn't forgotten you. And I haven't forgiven you..."

it isnt a mytery how Isolde (Viegos Wife) died. the story went as following:
Viego was not a good King towards his people, he was young and had no interesst in ruling, his only interesst was his Love, Isolde.
One day an assasin went to kill Viego, by poisining him, but instead poisend Isolde. no medecin could cure this poisen. So Viego sents on of his closest Offizers, Kalista , to serach for a cure. She found a lake guarded by monks, lake filled with live and very strong magic, basically the core of life and magic of this country. When she (kalista) went back to report, Isolde was already dead, desperat and broken Viego still toke Isoldes Body to the lake, and while the guarding monks tried to stop him, they were killed by Hecarim and since kalista tried to convince viego to stop, she got stabbed by hecarim (Hecarim is that shadow horse u see, and kalista has an own cinemaic). Betrayed, kalista swore vengence.
Viego put Isolds body in the lade and for a brief moment she came to life, but was deforming, out of shock and horroe Isolde took the sword from viego and stabbed him right through his heart (literally a broken heart) Viego fell and the lake got corrupted by isolds and Viegos dead bodies and the powerful magic of that lake got corrupt. In that very moment the magic spread across the bless iles corrupting every living thing and the blessed isles became the shadow isles.
In that very Moment Viego came back to life as the ruind King and Isold died instantly and her Soul broke and Spread to some objects of her former life, and into Senna and Gwen(the puppet). Senna has basically 2 souls, her own and a part of Isolds, Gwen has a part of isoldes souls which made that puppet come to life and the rest of the sould remain on objects.
Btw. That triangly shapped hole in viegos chest is where he got stabbed through and the mist is basically comming out of it. the MIst, as viego discibs it, is the broken heart and sadness of Isolds death.
i recommend u to read the story urself or watch some expaination by necrit.
it is a nice story and u might see many similarities between lucian getting back his wife from dead and viego trying to od the same thing. unfortunaly Riot did disappoint the lore fans with this, since they missed many oppertunities.
hope that helped understnad the story more

Ruined king is fun if you like that turn based type of feel. Like old final fantasy games or somethings. Tons of lore in there

52:45 In Senna’s character history, as a child she found a boat floating away from the Shadow Isles. Isolde’s soul (or part of it at least) was hiding in the boat and went into Senna’s body. Ever since that, she had been chased by the shadows since Viego was looking for his wife’s soul. Lucian’s father, who was a Sentinel, took her on as his apprentice to fight the shadows. When Lucian’s father died, she came to Lucian to return his father’s gun, and he convinced her to train him. They eventually fell in love and married…and then Thresh happened.
My theory is that Isolde separated her soul into as many pieces as she could so that she could make finding her as difficult for Viego as possible.
I know Ashkan (or Akshan) told a bit about Viego and Isolde, but I noticed that you had some questions still. So after Viego married Isolde, fighting broke out in question to his right to rule, and Isolde was poisoned by a dagger that was meant to kill Viego. She died, but he wanted her back. Finding a map to a magical place called the Blessed Isles, he goes there to somehow bring Isolde back. While there, he somehow mucks things up and ends up creating the Ruination and turning the Blessed Isles into the Shadow Isles. Thresh used to be a sadistic priest on the Blessed Isles before becoming the demon that he currently is.
Hope this clears some things up for you :)

Great that you went on so quickly and so much! I'm afraid though this is not gonna last until Arcane 2 as planned if you keep it up like this xDD. Loved the end of the story. So original. Viego did all these crazy things to bring her wife back and she basically slapped him in the face, told him he had lost his mind and sent him sleep on the sofa. What a beautiful person with a straight mind. She just spoke facts. A wise person wouldn't have kept loving someone like that, specially in the ruination of others.

The girl surfing on the ground that you said you didn’t think you saw before had a big part in the Call. She’s Taliyah (the earth bender) that was fighting the void beasts with Kai’sa. If you recall she looked so sad when she realized Kai’sa was going to lure the queen back into the void hole and she had to trap her friend with it by bringing down a mountain. I hope we eventually see a cinematic with her and Yasuo. She couldnt control her magic, her people couldn’t help and Noxus tried to use her as a weapon for conquest… she then met Yasuo and he taught her control. She sees him as the big brother she never had and she gave him the hand-spun wool he uses to tie his hair :)
    Great reaction!

I know I'm late and this was probably mentioned, but there's been an item in the game called blade of the ruined king like pretty much since the start of the game, and a lot of items change names or just get completely removed, this is one that has stayed mostly intact so when we saw viego was the ruined king that was like a lot of hype we didn't even know was building up lmao. Just for some context

    Every champion in these cinematics:
5:26 The ghostly metal centaur... thing is Hecarim, a brutal general from Viego's army while Viego was alive and now an equally vicious spirit of the Shadow Isles. No one else in this cinematic represents any particular character.
I'll skip the first two Ruined King trailers because it's easier to break it down for the third
12:43 (left): Illaoi (pronunced ill-OW-ee), priestess of the kraken goddess Nagakabouros (pronounced NA-ga-kay-BOAR-ose)
12:43 (right): Miss Fortune. Quick point of clarification: her official champion name is Miss Fortune. Captain Fortune is one of her skins, but it actually represents her as she currently is in the lore (and is also the version of her depicted in Ruined King). Her base "Miss Fortune" appearance represents how she used to look before the events of the Burning Tides event (I highly recommend looking into Burning Tides. There aren't really any cinematics but there are several short stories and such).
13:08 yep, that's Braum. His lore is that he's basically just a super wholesome buff guy who wanders the Freljord helping people. Also, I haven't played Ruined King but I've heard that in-game he has a crush on Illaoi, which I absolutely love lol.
13:32 yep, that's Ahri. Her lore is that, by her nature, she eats souls, but she's grown to hate doing it and feel super guilty about it. She loosely fits something of a succubus archetype in that she typically gets her victims by seducing them and then draining her souls.
13:36 yep, Yasuo. You already know his lore, as depicted in Stained Blade. Framed for a murder so his brother hunted him down, then he killed his brother, and now he's a depressed alcoholic but he's slowly getting better.
13:41 Pyke, the Bloodharbor Ripper. His crew let him die but he was ressurected, and now he's a vicious revenant, hunting down and killing everyone on his list from the depths of the ocean (originally his list consisted only of his old crew but no matter how many names he crosses off the list, he always finds more, and now everyone in Bilgewater is... somewhere on his list.) Also, believe it or not, he's actually a support in-game lol. A weird, very murder-y support, but a support.
15:24 Viego, the Ruined King. Yeah, the rest of the cinematics more or less break him down pretty well.
16:23 Lucian. His lore is summarized pretty well by Akshan. One thing I will point out is that the Ruination event really played up the parallels between Lucian and Viego. Lucian actually was super obsessed with getting vengeance against Thresh, constantly teetering on the brink of the same madness that consumed Viego. It's a really interesting parallel.
16:29 Thresh was sadistic in life and now he's sadistic in death. He traps souls in his lantern and torment them. Now that Viego has been defeated, Thresh is no longer bound to the Shadow Isles as he was before and has grown even more powerful, as we see in "A Night at the Inn" (the one where he looks like a hot human man and he meets Bort).
18:06 Taliyah. I don't really know her lore *super* well, but she's a girl from Shurima with earthbender powers who opposes Azir's attempts to build a new Shuriman empire. Right now she's working with Kai'Sa to fight back the void incursion.
    18:27 Ekko.
18:36 Yeah, that's the same robot. This is Blitzcrank, the Great Steam Golem, who was actually built by Viktor.
19:02 Of course, this is Miss Fortune, but it's worth noting that the tentacles here look a lot like the tentaces Illaoi summons in game (yeah, her kit revolves around summoning tentacles), meaning Miss Fortune's adversary is probably somehow tied to Nagakabouros).
    21:48 Senna.
25:33 Gwen, the Hallowed Seamstress. Basically, Gwen was Isolde's childhood self-insert OC, who she made into a doll. Later, this doll was brought to life with a fragment of Isolde's soul, and in that regard is sort of like Viego and Isolde's daughter.
28:32 Samira, the Desert Rose, a Shuriman-born Noxian assassin.
28:34 Darius, the Hand of Noxus. Bit of a note, just as Demacia is not "good," Noxus is not "evil," they're both morally grey, but both pretty dark shades of grey (Noxus are aggressive imperialists, Demacia are literally actively committing g*nocide against mages.) Darius in particular is actually one of the less evil Noxian characters. As a rags-to-riches success story, he represents the egalitarian, meritocratic Noxian ideal wherein your success is determined by your talent. He's a major figure in the Noxian military, and basically just does what his superiors tell him to. He's sort of a parallel character to Garen.
28:40 Karma, an Ionian spiritual leader who appeared in Awaken.
29:30 Poppy, the Keeper of the Hammer. A yordle tasked with carrying a magic hammer and giving it to a legendary hero... all while never even considering that the hero might actually be her (it almost definitely is, she's just too humble to realize it becuz Demacia)
29:36 Vayne, a fanatical monster hunter. Actually a terrible person who kills anyone she deems a monster whether they're evil or not (as we see later when she tries to kill Shyvana).
32:50 Akshan, the Rogue Sentinel, a young Shuriman sentinel who very much embodies the dashing rogue archetype. He bears a legendary sentinel weapon called the Absolver, which resurrects people who were recently killed by a person killed with the absolver. Oh! Fun fact: Akshan was actually the first (and thus far only) champion to be released in League PC, Wild Rift, TFT, and Legends of Runeterra all around the same time.
34:43 On the right we see a brief, randomly inserted clip of Garen taken from Warriors. Garen has nothing to do with the event btw he's just there for the funny.
36:20 Shyvana. She's a half-dragon. She's also romantically involved with Prince (well, King now) Jarvan IV, who totally sucks. Seriously Shyvana, ditch him, you deserve better. The dragon from this cinematic is also Shyvana. Her ult actually turns her into a dragon in game.
41:18 Olaf, the Berserker. He heard a prophecy that he would die a peaceful death, but he wants to die gloriously in battle so he's constantly seeking to die a glorious death.
41:24 Vex, the Gloomist. She's an emo yordle who's depressed because she's immortal.
41:50 Yep, that's Riven, a Noxian exile who now fights on the side of Ionia.
42:27 Draven, the Glorious Executioner, a Noxian... gladiator, basically. You saw him in Awaken.
    43:30 Yep, Irelia
43:59 Diana, who you saw in Tales of Runeterra along with Leona, her ex-lover turned mortal enemy.
44:13 Pantheon, essentially League of Legends Kratos.
44:54 Malcolm Graves, the Outlaw, Twisted Fate's partner (they were originally supposed to be husbands but the idea was shut down by the higher-ups. A large portion of the fandom (myself included) has collectively decided to ignore the higher-ups).
45:52 Rengar. Basically, he's a lion obsessed with hunting the most dangerous game. Also he has daddy issues. Also is mortal nemesis is Kha'zix, and together they are: Alien vs Predator (Kha'zix and Rengar, respectively)
46:10 Here we see an insight into one of the reasons people hate this event: mischaracterization. A lot of characters acted out of character during the event, most notably Rengar, Pyke, and, of course, Miss Fortune.
Two final notes: 1. Four champions were specifically added for this event: Viego, Gwen, Akshan, and Vex. 2. Throughout the video, at the end of each cinematic, the LoL CZcams channel logo pops up. At the moment, this is the most recent champion, Renata Glasc, a Zaun chem-baroness (she's actually a support in-game).
