In just 2 Notes John Williams had created the most famous and recognizable movie theme song of All-Time. The soundtrack to JAWS is an absolutely epic masterpiece...
But he copied it from Dvorak's 9th symphony, LOL
@@MiScusi69Most likely a sample
@@MiScusi69lol so all of a sudden a minor second motif makes it copying? Dvorak uses that motif to create something much more melodic and grand in nature. Williams uses the minor second motif as a driving pulse to create a much more eerie and frightening theme. He did not copy Dvorak
@@williamholke3325 it's not just a minor second, it's a repeated semitone in the low register; but you are right, it isn't really a copy and one cannot call it plagiarism, I just wanted to make OP understand that John Williams did not "create" the theme, it's just a very obvious motif (which Williams orchestrated 100 times worse and more repetitively than Dvorak, and Dvorak isn't even a great orchestrator).
But the final purpose of my comment was to make people understand that John Williams should *not* be hailed as much (if not more!) as the actual great composers who have lots of creativity, and that he is frequently a plagiarist (just think of the main theme of Star Wars, completely copied from Korngold's _King's Row_ )
@@MiScusi69 if you're going to bring up King's Row, only the first five notes are the same, so if you are going say that one composer owns the rights to five notes in a specific order, I'd say that's pretty crazy. Star Wars and King's Row are completely different minus the opening. John Williams does not plagiarize. He may borrow some brief motifs or ideas here and there, but he does not steal a complete phrase note for note, which would be plagiarism
And now we are afraid when we close our eyes in a swimming pool. Thanks
Yepp! Seems to have that affect on people who haven’t even seen the movie as well.
🤣. True
not me
Lasting theme music forever amd ever the end
Are you having a stroke?
@@masterkeef420 I think so
Totally 💯
Of course he did! Those 2 notes are the sound of fear sparked by malevolence!
Bro those two notes just because they’re low doesn’t mean they’re malevolent 😂 what are you smoking, if anything the FREQUENCY of the notes matters far more, which is why the Elite made sure the Hz was just right in order for it not to be melodic but chaotic. And it’s not usually recognized consciously. These two jaw notes tho aren’t malevolent in any way.

"And I'm not going to stand here and see that thing cut open and see that little Kintner boy spill out all over the dock!!!!!"
Wanna get drunk and fool around?
“Farewell and adieu ye fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu ye ladies of Spain”
"Here lies buried Maggie McGee..."
"Quint, where the hell is that cap to my pen, how did my pants rip when I sat, and why does my butt hurt?"
This was no boating accident..!!!
The GOAT. Plain as that.
Hanz bruh
Bernard Herrman ?????
The shark
Danny Elfman is the successor
Since Land of the Giants & Lost in Space I've been a massive fan of John Williams. So many awesome themes.
John Williams and Ennio Morricone 😍
James Horner too
John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner are my film composer trinity.
John William is the best and Spielberg the best in his role. Two titans together have made priceless legendary movies we will never forget.
So iconic... I can't be near water without thinking of this lol
The score of that film is as important as the shark.
I can't see Jaws without this theme music it helped make the movie!!
In another interview, Spielberg described John sitting at the piano...
"He played two notes. Then sat there for a few seconds. Then two more notes. Then he sat still again. I thought he was putting me on."
John Williams is the absolute goat of movie scores. Amazing.
One of the greatest movies of all time, with one of the greatest scores of all time.
Let's talk more about that badass shot in the end of the clip
One of my favorites.
Camera moving forward while zooming out. Or vice versa.
A dolly zoom
@@Peter-ff1tp If I had to guess, I wouldn't think they'd be able to do that digitally. They probably had to do a couple takes and get the speed just right. Such a cool effect though.
@@jonbar140
I’m sure it could be done digitally, but I don’t know enough to say for sure or how.
This was done on a track physically moving the camera while someone worked the zoom and focus.
@@jonbar140 Depends on what you mean by digitally. If you mean that it can't be done by using a digital camera, I'm certain that it could since a digital camera mimics a film camera in every aspect except that it doesn't use film. This is a simple trick to pull off, it's (I believe) called a dolly zoom and what it entails is moving the camera on a rail (the dolly0 towards or away from the the subject while simultaneously zooming in or out. You could do this using the camera on your phone while walking backwards or getting pulled on skateboard or a furniture dolly., it just wouldn't be as smoot as with a proper camera with a lens that you can operate the zoom with more than just 2 fingers on the screen, but the principle would be the exact same.
Two epic fingers!
I do like these behind the scenes stories.
Simplicity is the answer.
This ^
For all things artistic
Less is more
Greatest composer of our generation.....man is a genius....
The greatest composer with the greatest director. A match in Heaven. And the whole humankind is lucky.
Such an iconic piece of music and the scene shown with Roy is amazing in the way it was shot. I remember waiting in a line that went around the block and it was totally worth it !
He wasn't kidding... Best BGM for a shark
How something so simple became so iconic. 👏🏽
One of the greatest movie themes from one of the greatest films ever made
Never, ever doubt the genius of John Williams.
"Hooper drives the Boat Chief " LOL
I never go swimming nor take a bath when I'm thinking of the Jaws theme song.. LOL
Spielberg and Williams. Name a now iconic duo, I'll wait.
Batman and Robin
Nolan & Zimmer
Me and your mum.
Barbie & Oppenheimer
Had Spielberg gotten what he wants it would’ve been more atmospheric and wouldn’t have stick in our heads or become so iconic.
Limitations are good for spicing up a movie. George Lucas got more control over his movies as he was making the prequel and that might be why they are so much worse than the original trilogy.
Clerks was recorded in Black and white to hide the fact that it was all recorded at night.
Marlon Brando had gain weight so the director shot him in ways to hide it creating a iconic look in apocalypse now.
A signature yes! Everybody knows it immediately.
Im still behind the couch (100 miles from water) whenever i hear that. Genius 🦈
I’m 63 and I think of Jaws every time I step into the ocean. Never above my hips…NEVER!!!😂
It’s the minimalist take on what scares us. Like the shrieking single chord of the shower scene in Psycho by Bernard Herrmann. John Williams managed to do so much terrorizing with so little. Genius.
This guy turned the book into a Masterserpiece!
Two notes, and you have a movie masterpiece.
The theme was somewhat lifted from Hitchcock’d Psycho but still pretty amazing.
Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Indiana jones, ET…John Williams was a true artist with his craft
Thank you Steven. Your movies have been so meaningful and fun for me
John Williams created all the iconic movie soundtracks ❤️
It’s an iconic melody. When ı think of sharks this melody just appears in my mind one of a sudden
That iconic theme of Jaws always gets the heart racing, it's ominous even without watching the film you know something scary is about to happen. As far as film scores go John Williams is the GOAT.
I watched a video of Williams conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. The applause died down, he lifted his baton and they played one note. The audience started laughing and clapping! Of course, it was Jaws theme. Instantly recognizable around the world. Brilliant!
The crazy thing about it is that it WORKS. Ennio Morricone later used a similar two-note motif for The Thing and it was successful there too.
One of the first lessons we learned in Music Theory in college. Terrible professor, but this bit taught everyone a lot with so little.
When people make those two notes when people are in the water people automatically know exactly what their talking about, the JAWS theme is the most memorable and famous theme ever
"...and then I thought, 'hey' I'll put that in the script:"
- we can't do that.
- yes we can!
- I can't do that.
- yes you can!
😂😂😂
Two brilliant people working together ❤️ - when it’s right, it’s right🤗🐯🌱
Entire genre. I hear that in back of my head every time I see sharks in movies
Even when watching sharknado?
Legend just won the oscar for playing 2 notes
"And it suddenly.. seemed right.. and John found a signature... for the entire movie." These words over John Williams' classic score just feels so chef's kiss worthy
Masterfully simple and effective.
That theme still can give me chills.
Perfect movie
Extremely Iconic music theme one only has to hear a few bars and the thought of a shark, danger or peril pops into ones mind
favorite movie. i don't care that I've also seen Citizen Kane a dozen times.
Incredible John Williams is still going .
That’s a real genius brain to have, one that makes you really wealthy doing what you love.
Still can't shake this when Im scuba diving.
Was the greatest on Drive in ☝️🤩👍🎞️🎥🚙
Williams is to film scores what Tarantino is to films… almost every major piece can be directly traced to a pre-existing idea by classical composers(In this case “The Rite of Spring”), but he takes it to new realms with his sensibilities and maps it out across the story.
He is STILL the damn best… the absolute sweeping rapture of Spielberg & Williams is unmatched.
*people complaining about pop artists only use four chords*
*john Williams hits blunt*
Here's why John Williams is great. Better than all the modern composers: He understands the power of simplicity & the magic of a remembering the music after you've seen the movie. Guys like Michael Giacchino may make technically more impressive music, but I forget the music the minute I exit the theater. Within 2 notes, I know the Jaws music, even 20 years after I've seen the movie.
Not many composers can put the fear of god in people with two notes
I absolutely hate when this younger generation says they haven’t seen jaws! I mean it was so iconic and so scary at the time. Greatest music ever buy the greatest composer of the 20th century.
It’s a horror movie theme, in the same bailiwick as the theme from Psycho or even the theme from Friday the 13th.
Yes
It does turn into the Psycho song at the end.
Kids out of the pool
Ignores mom
Proceeds to play JAWS theme 🦈
Soooooo iconic!!!!
If you’re moved by that, check out Dave and Tim at Radio City Music Hall, Lie in Our Graves. Tim plays one note in the solo part and it’s astounding how moving it is.
You don't see movies nowadays where the music is the movie.
Spielberg 's. masterpiece and nightmare.
Back when Hollywood churned out REAL movies. AMAZING movies that really got us!
Not saying Jaws was a bad movie without it, but that music takes it from B- to A+.
Jaws, Star Wars, Harry Potter, you name it… John Williams is a modern day Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach. He should be respected as such. The man can do no wrong.
Love ❤️ you !
INNERSPACE
INTERSPACE IS NOT A WORD.
❤
I prefer the guy that wrote the themes for Out Of Africa, The Last Of The Mohicans, and Braveheart. And the Titanic theme song. He died too soon.
It didn't take long for it to become funny again with the Land Shark on SNL and in the opening to Airplane!
The music was the scariest part of the movie
Sometimes, less is more.
The quality of his music is incomparable.
And now It's literally become the thing everyone hums while swiming to stalk like a shark 😂
I’m gonna admit, I have a fear of sharks In the pool water lmao
This movie right here is the reason why I have galeophobia
And then every for every 2 people on the planet that went in the water 1 always went "duunnn dunnn...."
Spielberg: "So, John, play the new Jaws theme for me."
John Williams plays Star Wars theme.
Spielberg: "THAT'S AMAZING! I LOVE IT!"
Williams: (Laughing) "Bro, I'm just joking. Here's the real theme."
Plays Jaws theme.
Spielberg: 👎
I watched The Deep with Jacqueline Bisset which has a lot of scuba diving scenes and there’s a shark scene and the music is exactly the same as in Jaws. The problem is The Deep preceded Jaws by a few years. John Williams stole the Jaws theme from that movie.
"Jaws..... see it, before you go swimming" ...... "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water..... Jaws 2."
And now I am afraid of taking a bath.
Would a person like Mozart be a music writer for movies as well. I think so opera became motion pictures
Underwater Music Excellence
What are these clips from?
A): Jaws is PG. That will always baffle me, simply b/c the MPAA would NEVER allow a PG film to be so bloody and scary nowadays.
B): I love the trust Spielberg has in Williams. He legit does all of his films it seems like.
C) Jaws is a perfect film. Like Shawshank, when it randomly shows up on cable when you're a kid, you just leave the remote alone and watch it 😂 🔥.
There's a movie that deserves a modern sequel. The effects of the time were just not there yet and with modern effects, we could see some really visceral shark attacks.
Hell. No.
No remake and no more sequels.
A Great Artist. Williams, however, is in the stratosphere
Stephen, redo Charlie Chan movies
Show me the way too go home…
E - F.
That theme music was RIPPED from Quincy Jones... "In the heat of the night' when the white racists appeared in their car with shark fins...
