Detroit outfit Mil-Spec is talking a problem that is much easier said than done: un-shitboxing the Hummer H1. You see, the original Hummer seemed cool at the time, but it was a seriously terrible vehicle. Underpowered, with half-thought accessories and a tendency to overheat, not to mention GM's injection-molded interior. Mil Spec rebuilds the H1 from the frame rails up, drops in a new powertrain, re-designs the entire interior for better ergonomics, accessories, and sound, and, sells them ready to go, starting at $218,000

Lots of people asking about rattles. I take it none of you have ever been in an actual Hummer, which are the creakiest, most shoddily built vehicles ever. Even if you rebuild the whole thing, there will be some rattles if you’re going off-road. The clamshell hood is designed to shake around, that is totally standard. But this is a MASSIVE improvement from a stock hummer in the NVH department.
Did you do the classic wall climb?
For $240k I expected a little more isolation from the offroading.
@@loudring6247 I think your expectations were too high, considering where they were starting from.
Sounds better than my 60k jeep offroad.
@@TheSmokingTire I have been spoiled by my LS430 maybe thats why.
Did you seriously just take a modded Hummer with locking diffs to the mountains and not climb anything?
I seen a Mexican dude in a Toyota Corolla driving down a road worse than all that last week
Sweet Hummer though
@sbcontt YT Only 2WD? Pointless.
@sbcontt YT Same here.
@sbcontt YT Hahahahaha😂
@sbcontt YT I think he more meant that it could be driven fully 2WD with unlocked diffs. The ordering page lists normal transfer cases options and air-locking diffs.
@@albertdesalvo7273 no dipshit all hummers are full time 4wd but this one has the ability to be 2wd all it takes to go to 4wd is a lever move
For everyone complaining about the rattles. I take it you've never been in a real Hummer. Unless they put the armoured upgraded doors on it. It's not going to seal or getting better.
He said a real hummer not Barbies Hummer H3 @@ArtVandelayOfficial
@@ArtVandelayOfficial The H3 isn't a Hummer. It's a Chevy Colorado with different body paneling.
Sorry if that offends you.
A bone stock H1 is like a paint can half full of nails and screws in a paint shaker.
By comparison, this Mil-Spec unit is remarkably quiet. The fact that you can hear him (and his passenger) doing proper narration is telling. Were they doing this in a stock job, they'd have to ADR or just voice-over everything afterward.
@@PhotonHerald don't argue with somebody about their mall parking lot princess cruiser about offroad vehicles, your words will go right over their heads.
Outstanding road presence. Love H1 for what it is. This Mil-Spec re-incarnated Hummer looks properly built. Thank you very much for this vlog!
This will probably be the extent of offroading any of these milspec builds ever sees lol
Until 4:36 i didn’t realise there is someone else in the car😆
THANK YOU MILL SPEC!!!! AND EVERYBODY INVOLVED IN THE REBUILD!!!! SHE CAME OUT TOTALLYAWSOME!!!!! I AM SO IMPRESSED!!!!
In all the years I’ve been watching your videos and all the vehicles you’ve tested, I’ve never seen you smile more than in that Hummer.
Thanks for telling everyone how much torque and hp in the h1’s. It is SOOOO frustrating when people talk about diesels and they only talk about the HP and not the torque output (when diesel’s are all about torque). So thank you so much for that!!!!
Starting at $218,000 😬
no thanks
Holly fvcking s@it. Yeah no thanx
@@scuderia747bhp
Buying a used H1 Alpha seems like the better deal/idea. He even mentioned the stock Alpha being good to drive in the video.
BIG PASS. Would have more fun in a HUMVEE
he makes this video like anybody can afford this lol
Matt please come back! Miss your reviews bro!
The rattles aren't bad for a Hummer. They're bad for a Hummer that costs as much as a G63 Squared.
It's an offroad vehicle not a Cadillac, it's built to take a beating not butter your buns
@@Lofi.z34 not a very good offroader for a quarter million dollars then is it
SwaffyX ifs won't get you too far offroad
AD1 ?
@@Lofi.z34 ever heard of an escalade?
Great! Really enjoyed this one take & the podcast. A+
+TheSmokingTire No CTIS?? That's one of the main selling points and features!! I wonder if they could come up with something if they contacted someone like Tibus Offroad in Germany that makes an air system for portals. The fastback Hummers with the slanted spare are pretty epic.
He said " go ask Doug Demuro " that's a definite choice of person to ask ✅✅

Who doesn't love a good hummer?
Great video
I am good friends with the brother of their chief designing officer. love that they're finally getting recognition
Oh Matt definitely took an early morning joint before this. Looks like a good time.
Great video of a hummer on flat roads... totally crazy bro
we missed you man
Cheers Matt and Timmy, ridiculous thing yet somehow rather wonderful too. :)
this brings back fond memories of wheelin in afghanistan. i learned how to go offroad and wrench pretty well that year
ex-military Hummer mechanics are some of the best people to get to work on your H1. I found mine on CL when I owned the truck. No dealers would touch it.
Ok so my question is, why would I spend $218k on that barebones interior compared to the level of luxury in the H1 Alpha for $160k instead? Granted not as much power, but there are plenty of shops out there who can easily add power to a Duramax engine for a relatively decent price
You just must love the Hummer. For everyone else who has money just get a Raptor.
Buy 5 raptors
Vanneker 2 very different beasts. I’d have this and a Raptor if I had the money.
But that's only half as cool.
@@toncheky idk man, having 4 spare raptors for your friends would be pretty cool
LOL. Like the craptor is even in the same solar system with this. That piece of shit ford is the most overrated vehicle ever sold.
doing donuts in a Hummer, all you ever wanted and more! proper consumer advice :D
I would suggest Mil-Spec look at commercial refrigeration controllers for the air conditioning. They often have protection from moisture and temperature variances.
Matt I love your take on cars and as a Brit I like the idea of the Hummer because the competition in military terms is rough, imagine setting off 100 19 year olds across the desert carrying fuel and water with Hummers that could drift and jump?
Is it just a coincidence that Daily Driven Exotics recently bought 2 H1 Hummers and now you and many other You-Tubers are all doing Hummer videos? Have always loved The H1’s, everything produced after just isn’t the same.
I need to see more of this hummer
Less rattles then Jeeps.
That's awesome I want one. I love it
I can't believe how fucking quiet they managed to make that thing, it's insane how much quieter that is than a normal Hummer, even with the minor rattles it still has. Holy shit lmao
Looks like a fun vid to make
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Excellent extreme test, on level ground.
The babys in the comments section whining about rattles off road, are the same ones that wear air jordans on the trail & freak out about "All the dirt"
? The trail is made of dirt. Quarter million dollar 4WDs shouldn't be made of rattles.
What do you give to a whiney baby?... A rattle!
A MUST WATCH!!!!
What a nice looking place.
@dde boys needs this
Very cool truck.
For those talking about the rattling, it adds character.
/s
You misspelled headache as in it adds a headache to the off roading experience and at no less than $200+k
It is a military vehicle after all, so some rattling to be expected.
@@ThomasGillot Originally it was. Now it's just a piece of shit with no market.
Very cool but not for that price. I'd rather have a tricked-out Defender.
Fa sho
Beautiful country. Makes me wanna give wheelin' a try.
Do it! Rent a 4WD truck, get the insurance, have a blast, rinse it off, and return it. You'll have a great time and decide if it's a hobby you wanna pursue.
Watching this makes me want to start playing the Lotto!
First year of the H1 Hummer was in 1992 I saw and met Arnold Schwarzenegger at Mammoth Mountain California driving one. Good times
Arnold Schwarzenegger said that he called up the military and persuaded them to sell them to civilians so I guess that’s true we have him to thank
I wonder what DDE of daily driven exotics thinks about this? He just bought two of these and acts like are amazing
He bought one, iirc the white one does not have the duramax engine etc
Because they are amazing if you aren’t expecting the world from them. They are simply military offroad vehicles. Plus DDE Hummers aren’t stock either.
Matt please do the one takes more often
You always have the best eyeliner
Oh that is beyond epic!!!
The H1 will never be uncool.
My favorite vehicle besides a countach or miura.
"It's the kind of Hummer that might make me like Hummers again."
- Matt F.
Nobody picking up on that?
Do the [Bear's] still proposition you or has that faded away now that you've matured?
Pretty cool. Did notice the speed limits on the trail. Too funny. Is CHP running radar in the desert?
I have an 89 AM General Humvee. The hood on it constantly rattles. It's the best/worst daily driver.
We just need to know how it will do on a track.
The title cracks me up. 500 hp and 1,000lb/ft is definitely "mil-spec" lol
What is the color code for this vehicle? I am currently looking for this color in powder coat.
Now that these are available directly from the military, the aftermarket is going to make building something like this a lot less expensive. In a few years you'll be able to build almost exactly what he's driving for less than $50k.
Take it to a real off-road challenge.
What about the snorkel kit they used to have?
L5P is the engine EVERY Hummer needs and deserves.
dont worry, you wont miss the CTIS. we took them off overseas anyways
Please review the long travel version.
SUGGESTION: MORE HUMMER MERCHANDISE!!!!
Early look at future DDE build?
Typo in the title?
Do they charge extra for all the rattles ????
I didn't see anything my 05 BMW X3 couldn't handle and it cost way less than that when it was new
wish you sold me where you got that hat in the beginning of this video. I WOULD buy that
That, probably, only track I want so bad so it can be "poster car" near Pagani Zonda
Was Matt wearing eyeliner in the intro?
Ryan Lange yeah I noticed that too 🤣
why not?
🤔 Kind of too much makeup, right ?
I could be wrong, but this is a humvee not a hummer h1. I believe mil-spec rebuilds humvees. I believe this is a humvee due to the turn signal. Hummer h1 and humvee are very similar but if you owned one before you should know the difference.
I was in the Army when those came out and I’m pretty sure there was never a gas engine version. The Army was moving away from gas. The last thing they had with gas was the Dodge pickup and the M151 Jeep which the Hummer replaced.
Everything he spouted off about the engines was specific to the civilian side, while he’s playing around with a rebuilt military hmmwv, not an H1.
I wonder what Jonathon at Icon could achieve with a Hummer at the same price as this MilSpec.
Icon anything is better than this
Now I want to see a round of Formula D around a dirt track
it is a 2+2, I saw a review it was 6 place. Imagine if you have for 7+1 space modification inside without this huge middle shit box to disturb passages space. I also would change to manuelle transmision plus the sun shild towars my face rather than being shifted. Inflating wheels in and off it is a must.
INNOVATION SPOKEN HERE.
You should drive @Salomondrin s Raptor S it’s the same price but it’s a Rolls Royce grade interior and a few modded options
But it's a Ford... Eeew. Found On Road Dead.
What suspension does it run
How was the hummer on fuel mileage
I would have liked to see some "actual off-roading" for this review.
that is awesome !!!!!!
No Ma Deuce option? or Mk19? or TOW?
Awesome
Where do you get a 60 inch ground clearance?
Take a 1 better listen he said 16 inch.
If I really wanted a hummer, this would probably be it. Buuuut if I just wanted a good offroader I'd probably swing for an ls-swapped wrangler
A Cummins swapped Wrangler sounds even better than an LS swapped one lol
You took an H1 and drove down a bumpy dirt road! That will test it's capabilities. I've owned an H1 and mine didn't rattle like that.
rmontez 🍪
Did you air down?
You can only lock one diff?
Why is it rattling so much?
Was it "tuned for the track"?
its not a bentley so expect some rattles.
I think it's because it's convertible.
Simon Maglica if you’ve ever been in an original hummer this is massively improved from that.
How fast does it go??🤔🤔
this looks like a military surplus with an interior? this does not look like a factory civilian h1
Hummer H1 or HUMVEE?
First dde, now Matt Farah. H1/HMMV comeback?
Was the camera hand held all the way? Timmy must have very stable hands. 👍
just based off of the interior alone, that hummer looks fucking bad ass!
SUGGESTION: WILLWOOD DISC BRAKE CONVERION KIT.
Mul/Spec?
The Prototipo’s its best part
Before he said anything I was thinking it was going to be around 100G, but 200G blew my mind.
Didn't surprise me. Consider that classics that cost a few times more don't get fully disassembled and restored because it's too expensive.
This thing starts out as a H1 in a good shape that gets fully restored, they buy a crate engine, build it, make a new roof, interior, upgrade the suspension, brakes and the list goes on. That's very labor and time intensive and keep in mind that you don't pay minimum wage for that sort of work because you want someone who knows what they're doing.
A quarter of a million bucks for a Hummer? That earns a giant FUCK THAT!
