    She may have been strongly reprimanded in the past for walking on wood floors by a previous owner.
    It took 2 weeks of work for my gal to feel sure that she was allowed on the sofa. And a year to be 100% confident that she was allowed up there whenever she wanted and was never going to be in trouble for it.
    I did cry the first time she finally relaxed enough to fall asleep on my lap on the couch.
    Their victories can sound small but they're so powerful because of the freedom and calm and happiness they can unlock.
    What a great person for investing all that time and effort and having such patience and love to help this gal learn that it's ok to walk on wood floors. A home should feel like a safe place for everybody who lives there.

    I took a tied-out dog that had NEVER been inside. For him bare floors were terrifying things. First day was straight to the vet who had an acre of poured floor, light colored and smooth and hard as glass. He spread-eagled. No amount of coaxing could get him on his feet and I think we sort of pulled him into the exam room on his belly. Skinny as a rail, mange bald, and turned out to have heartworms. Everyone who saw him said the same thing. Oh you poor thing! The most expensive dog coming in the door we ever had. When he was all vetted up and feeling better, there wasn't a happier dog on earth. Named him PT. Had him about 10 years. Worth every penny.

He was always a blessing, day after day, for our hearts and minds. He was perfect and perfectly made for each of us singly and together. He was family, consolation for the losses of our parents & her husband, and a continuing joy. Now I'm alone, an orphan, and I have 2 holes in my heart ❤ that are filled with them both. I am grateful for them and their love for me. Our pets are miracles for us, just like we are miracles for each other. A lack of socialization could do it. You're supposed to introduce puppies to different kinds and textures of turf to get used to them. Maybe original home only had carpet or she was born outside and never say shiny floors.
      This is one of the reasons to take puppies to the beach, the park, pet stores etc. Not just to meet people and dogs but get used to different things in other environments.

    The wood may have splinters in some parts, he could have hurt himself with that and that's why he is afraid of it, check your floors for any damage to avoid these traumas, I remember the girl who impaled herself on the wooden floor of her school while she was playing basketball

      he might be in pain. there was this animal show with the same type of behavior. the owners were trying to find out why their dogs were doing this. they thought it was kinda a cute behavior. The show found out that both dogs with the same behaviors had knee problem and had their ligament torn. one was Maltese and one was black lab. So, when the floor slippery, they are in pain. one of the dog was only 1 yr old. but they run when they are in dog park bc they are excited. but dont walk in the house. so the owners didnt know it was their knees.

    Making this dog comfortable on a surface she definitely didn't care for is so great, sometimes we as humans loose sight of the things that separates us from animals her ability to adapt and learn new skills is proof positive we have only scratched the surface of animal behavior..

I've done a lot of work with my rescue cats, and I'm sure dogs would repay all the effort you put into bringing them out of their shells, just as my cats did and do. She's a gorgeous creature, and one day she'll forget she ever had a problem with wooden floors! :-D

    I had had my cat for about three years when I moved into a new apartment that had ceiling fans in several of the rooms. He was terrified of them at first and hid under the lip of the cabinets in the kitchen for the first few hours. I basically just sat down with him, held him, and petted him to reassure him until he calmed down and realized the ceiling fans weren't gonna get him. Had a bit of a relapse when I actually turned the fans on but he got over it quickly.

    • @ettinakitten5047
      @ettinakitten5047 Před 2 lety

      When we installed a ceiling fan in our kitchen, for about a week all of our cats would only cross the kitchen at a full run. They eventually learned that the fan wasn't dangerous. I suspect part of the problem was that they were indoor-outdoor cats who had experience being mobbed by birds (swallows especially *hate* cats and will dive-bomb any cat they see). I think the fan looked like an aggressive bird to them.
