- When it comes to dynamic movements on the bar like the kipping pull up, muscle up, or toes to bar...everyone knows that the strength portion needs to be worked on separately. But what most people may not realize, is that the KIP needs to be trained on its own as well.
The kip itself is a skill, and should be trained as such. Listen in as head coach and US Olympic Team Member Dave Durante breaks down the kip swing to a group at a recent Power Monkey Gymnastics Course.

How to perform the PERFECT movement to stifle all your gains from a pull up.
Depends on how you think about it. Swinging movements are major part of the sport of gymnastics. Yes, we teach strict movement first to build strength and overall joint stability. Additional to that we teach the importance of mobility and maximizing range of motion to be able to build towards to new types of movements, which include swinging variations. Should swinging pull variations be learned in place of building strict skills? No. But can they be a useful for further skill development in the gymnastics world, absolutely. Understanding the place and the correct progressions for these skills is critical so all athletes have more tools in their tool belt that they can implement in a safe way. Thanks for the note 💪
This is why Dave is the best out there when it comes to teaching proper technique and progressions.🙏🏼
Was waiting for this kind of comments... I guess you are not understanding the point of the kipping in this situation.
@@MrSxe34 it's really the only comment lol.
@@MrSxe34 To get a higher score at an easier version of a hard very controlled and structured lift.
If you had a reason for these, you would have told me in your reply, rather than just tell me I don't 'understand'.
Love these kind of content Dave and explained with an astonishing clarity!!!
