- THIS IS MY OPINION AND NO ONE ELSE'S! However, that doesn't mean I'm not open to others. If you would like to let me know your opinions in a civil manner, go ahead and leave a civilized comment or, better yet, make your own Top 17 (well, 18 now). If you would rather be a troll, be warned that I am ultimately in control of this channel and the comments section, not you. Also, please remember that I am only going over TYPES, not the Pokemon within those types. Almost all the comments I make in this video are generalizations about these types. Yes, there are almost always exceptions, but I'm not looking at those exceptions, just the types as a whole.
Man, this one turned out to be REALLY long. Hello, and welcome to this first episode of PokeMonth. Today, I'll be talking about one of the things that I believe make Pokemon so diverse and interesting, their types. Before I start, let me just say this, there are no BAD Pokemon types. The order of this list was purely determined by my own experiences and opinions. So, take this list at face value, because I can guarantee that you WILL disagree with me at least once. Now that that's out of the way, please enjoy this video and the rest PokeMonth has to offer. - Hry
It's still great to rewatch good old videos like this.
Ahem.
Prior to the split that occurred in Generation IV, types were categorized exclusively as either Special or Physical. Water, Grass, and Ice, the Ground type's weaknesses, were all categorized as Special types and therefore used Special type moves. Even after the split, a majority of the moves within these types remain categorized as Special rather than Physical.
Your dice.
Nice top 17.
I enjoyed watching this vid.
You not only mention your own opinions, but also some cool facts that are useful to know.
The reason ghost is weak against itself is because in ancient folklore one of the ways to defeat a ghost is to hit it with an object that is the same SPIRITUAL mass as the ghost
this also shows why ghost type attacks were physical attack in the past
I always saw it as ghosts being all ethereal and stuff, so they interact with each other on a higher level of power
That's very profound, Mr. Armstrong.
***** hey I no u not gonna Answer but wut da music around 8:47
What is that track in the #12 spot? I can't for the life of me recall ._. so memorable, the tune that is, but what is it from?! D:
sunnyshore city from diamond,pearl,and platinum.
27:16 Your Wish Was Granted With Eternatus!
Not the only one to go back to this video after the new legendary
Nihilego
I felt so alone for so long poison is one of my favorite types thank you for not criticizing it
Yes! After scrolling through countless top 17/18s, I finally found someone who appreciates the awesome of Poison :) It was my favorite from the start, and to be honest, most other types don't really have a chance in my preference. At first, I was glad it wasn't in the bottom few right along with normal, bug, and ice, but was genuinely surprised to hear "water" as number two, with Poison left over. Nice video, I like how you included statistical evidence to back up your points.
Poison = Op
Carson Rueter Agreed! My mono poison team wins more battles than you'd expect
You don't like Lapras' design?
Now Water is going to be paired with fire when volcanion comes out as well as the fact that it has been paired with fairy (Azumarill). By this logic, water will have been with every single type.
so the question is: where does fairy fit into this list?
This video was made in 2012. The Fairy type was introduced in Pokemon X and Y in late 2013.
flyingburritodog i know; i'm asking him "now that fairy type is around, where would it fit on this list?"
TheH@wkin@tor
To be honest, it's probably right smack dab in the middle. It's a good type with some good Pokemon, but I can't get behind the type match-ups with them. While other types had some clever meaning behind their weaknesses and strengths, Fairy type is there for no other reason than to balance with no thought put into the concept of Fairy type itself. They could have called it flargen type and it wouldn't make any difference.
superflipper76 good point. Thanks for answering
superflipper76 Type matchups shouldn't affect what you think of a type. Also, what's with that gripe of yours about a type being weak to itself? Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Lucario are weak to their own type, and what does it mean? Absolutely nothing. Just my opinion though.
If you don't like ghost types and you love poison types... Then what do you think of gengar? He's both a poison AND ghost type.
Crunch is not the Psychic type's Kryptonite. The almighty Megahorn is!
Wonder where Fairy would place on here.
1st its op
Maybe somewhere in the middle.
JPKProductions100 true dat
JPKProductions100 That's why I bring a venomoth or roserade with sludge bomb.
As Venomoth conquerors any terrain?!
omfg
your plushies are the most adorable thing i've seen in a guy's room
i love them
Lucario and Meinshao are about the closest to specially based fighting types as you get, but even then they are primarily physical attackers.
nope i like the electric type because a manetric and ampharos not pikachu
my top 5:
5:ghost
4:water
3:fighting
2:steel
1:poison :)
Yay poison
Yay steel and poison
WOW I never realised how good poison types could be. AWESOME video buddy
Well man,i never really liked poison but
i agree with you.Poison type is SO underrated! Also,i really enjoyed your video.Good work
I have no problem with your opinion (I would disagree with Ice being low if it weren't for the Fairy type being the go-to Dragon-slayer), but your jokes and your camera are quite poor.
4:16 Now in Gen 6 we have Freeze Dry, a move that is super effective to water and ice types!
I have to say I agree with every single thing you said on that list, and poison is by far my favorite type. It is so underrated and this is one of the only youtube videos I agree with!
I don't understand why ghost type is weak against dark type, doesn't ghosts live in the darkness?
6:29 Your voice is so hilarious! XD LOL!
A jontron, mathew patrick and another reference I can't remember, nice! Also good video.

Ghost is my favorite type. thank you for putting it in your list:D!!!
"it's just a theory"
"A GAME THEORY"
I must say, I was the same with Poison types. I used to think they were weak and an absolute horror to fight with. However, when I tried a Poison type run for a challenge, I discovered how good they were. I loved using them, and I only gave up because I found it too hard to get a Grimer in Celadon City in FireRed. Kudos to you for a great list focusing not on strength, but strategy.
I think that the reason that ghost beats ghost is that it can't go through, and therefore inflicting extra damage.
He's using two Sharpedo's on the gym. I died when I saw that XD.
I too hated poison in the begining. Then as time went on, I used it in battles after realizing it power. It can even counter those fairy pokemon!
just a quick question superflipper; where would the fairy type be if you were to redo this list?
MrTerminator3010 middle
can someone please explain to me why normal types aren't affected by ghost it doesn't make any sense
you are a rare gem and i am happy to have watched your video, i was actually wondering if anyone was supporting poison, but thanks to gen 6 they are a bit more nessisary that most think.
regardless, it was nice finding a pokemon fan who gives the underdogs a bit in the spot light.
Hooray! Poison is my favorite type as well! Just did a monotype in fire red expecting to hate the time I spent on it. However, after about 3 gym badges I realized I was going to have a HUGE amount of fun playing!!! So awesome! Definitely the best type out there.
Hey Flipper, there is gonna be a Fire and Water type Pokemon soon in Gen 6, hackers have found a Pokemon named Volcanion in X and Y, and I absolutely CANNOT wait to get my hands on one, it would just be absolute paradise for me to use a type like this Pokemon, it better b released soon GameFreak
When you see the 1º Gym Leader be a Rock-type Master, it's interesting that Brock are the only one that is easier to beat than the others. It's so amazing to see that Roxanne does with a Thunder Wave in your face, with almost none special attacks earlier in your party to defeat easier her strategy.
Very nice list, though my picks are different, this is well made, well done.
There isn't a move specifically used for freezing an enemy because once a Pokemon is frozen, it usually take them 5-15 turns to thaw out!
I was referring to the new type that's being introduced, not the strategy used.
When you said leaf type moves that are powerful but have a condition after petal dance does not
The Grass-type is my favourite type because of those rare fast Pokemon like Lilligant and Sceptile. The defensive ones like Ferrothorn and Tangrowth can RUIN YOUR OPPONENT'S DAY if used correctly.
The only bad thing about poison is abilities that can counter the status problem like magic guard ( I have a clefable that knows it and a roserade that knows natural cure which kind of counts). However I do agree that water is a good type, it's my favourite.
I'm with you man, I used to hate the poison type but as of right now it is my favorite!
All flying pokemon have two types to make up for the lack of flying type when using the move roost
I started using poison more often after seeing how Koga can easily wipe the floor with my strongest pokemon for the E4. My favorite 2 are Crobat for speed, attack, and immunity to earthspam and Venemoth for it having moves that can counter its own type
ghost type is one of my favorite types, i play always like: hatch a egg from a ghost type pokemon and trade that pokemon at lvl 5 to my other game to raise it. i did this with rotom in heartgold, chandelure in black2 and drifloon in omegaruby... if you can get in the beginning of a game a ghost type, you almost never get hit, so that explains why they are later in the game. but that is my opinion...
I dont get why that is racist
When they revealed the fairy type matchups, I was sad. Sableye has a fairy weakness now, so the only pokemon with no weaknesses left is eelektross
Not unless you have a Pokemon that has Mold Breaker and knows Earthquake
Just a quick question. If you put ghost at 17. and poison @ 1. What is your thoughts about gengar?
i love how in x and y eevee is getting a poison evolution ant there will be a poison legendary
Where would you put the fairy type on the list?
1:50 reference to a video by a personal friend of mine and favorite countdown artist/lets player? And your video is awesome? Can I like a video twice?
1. water
2.grass
3.psychic
4.poison
5.ghost
6.bug
7.electric
8.ground
9.flying
10.dragon
11.steel

14.rock

Psychic types had a weakness to Ghost even back in Gen 1. It's just that the only (real) damage dealing Ghost move was Lick, as Night Shade does damage based on your level, and therefor cannot be super effective
Sorry, but no. Back in Gen I, Psychic types were only weak to Bug types. They were given their weaknesses to Ghost and Dark in Gen II as a means to balance them out. Granted, Psychic was weak to Ghost in Fire Red / Leaf Green, but that's because they realized that it would be a stupid move to remake Red / Blue and NOT include the change. Look it up on Bulbapedia or serebii.net if you want. I guarantee you will be wrong.
Yeah, no. It's exactly like I said. If you pick up a copy of Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and use Lick on a Psychic type, it WILL be super effective
There is a glitch in the game
This glitch, however, does not occur in Pokemon Stadium. Still though, fundamentally in Gen 1, Psychics WERE weak to ghost
Gen five introduced a ridiculously good bug type lineup, with pokemon such as Crustle, Escavalier, and especially Volcarona
On the credits. He mentioned The Trees Aprentice, despite him not being mentioned... Foreshadowing?
Freezing is also the best status effect, because they are just done
24:34 Actually, now there is a Water/Fire type since Volcanion was revealed ;)
May I ask where you got your facts from, because last time I checked, Water, Grass, and Ice were all Special types prior to Generation IV.
Got you there :)
Finally! A CZcamsr who doesn't tell us what we're about to see incase we missed the title!
The funny thing about bug type is only one bug type pokemon can learn megahorn.
It's hard for me to say what types are my favorite since I have a couple favorite Pokemon from most of them.
i find poison types hard to use in battle but to take out my opponent little by little this is the best
and fissur is a really good ground move but its extreamly unlucky to hit
My fav type is fire because darmanitan a fire type was the first Pokemon to reach level 100 and trust me i use him all the time and it is so strong
Now that fairy type is out, what number would you place it at?
it's a common legend that only a ghost can fight another ghost, therefore they are weak against ghost moves
can anyone tell me what is the name of the game which kingler was fighting ampharos ?? please
Melloetta is the 4th psychic type legendary Pokemon I met (including anime)
would've liked to know what that so called unbeatable strategy was. toxic stalling? hoping the other guy had no psychic types?
now with ice types I think game freak isn't really making since with ice types
1. how does ice only do 1/2 damage against water? if you use a beam of ice it's going to freeze water if there is a blizzard it's going to freeze water
2. how does ice do normal damage to bug? if you expose a bug to cold it's going to die. plus I think bug should do 1/2 damage to ice because if you have a bug and you have it fight a piece of ice do you think a bug would do much to that piece of ice?
But overall ice is still my favorite type even with those 2 down falls
I Agree :3
In Fact Ice type Shall Resist Flying Cause Birds Can't Break Ice That Powerful
You know, what if there was a Beast type? It would be supereffective on Water and Grass (those are wild animals' foods) and be weak to Steel (because of hunting, like, steel bullets).
Drapion carried me in pokemon pearl, that was the first poison I used. Before then fire and electric were about my entire team
Plan on revisiting this next year & doing a top 18 for the new Fairy type?
For what you said about Rock types, Gen 6 FINALLY fixed that. The Rock leader is the 2ND gym you fight for once.
Gardevoir can do the role of a special attacker pretty well, though its a pain to find
I think that fairy will be weak to poison because I can remember looking at an article about a pokemon smash thing with sylveon looking as if it was weak to poison
About grounds moves you said that the only one that's good is earthquake but there it your teammates but you have earth power
Ever since I got a Nidoran I've always used Nidoking and he's a poison-type! So what a coincidence!
He puts status ailments on pokemon and poisons them to then switch out to a stronger pokemon to decimate them.
Now he has to do top 18 pokemon types
Wailrein is very, I repeat, very fast for the ice type. His mix with the water type makes his weakness to fire gone. So, I just shot a ice beam at Salamence's face, dealing 4x more damage, killing it in one hit.
Finally someone else sees the awesomness that is the poison type. I'm doing a playthrough of Pokemon White currently and my team is made up of 1 fire type, 1 psychic type, 1 grass type, 1 normal type, 1 flying type, and (my favorite) 1 poison type. My best Pokemon are my Musharna, my Stoutland, and most of all my Arbok.
After many years, we have finally a poison type legendary in the form of Eternatus, one of the most powerful if not the most powerful pokemon in existence. It has interesting lore, the Darkest Day caused by Eternatus takes place in the exact same time period as the pokemon war from 3000 years ago, it's move pool is a force to be reckoned with, with moves like sludge wave, toxic, cosmic power and the gimmick destroying dynamax cannon. It's stats were already powerful in it's normal state with high hp and special attack while also have some good defenses and speed. It's Eternamax form however overthrown Mega Rayquaza from the throne of strongest pokémon. Eternatus has a base stat total of 690, which is already powerful for a legendary pokémon, but it's Eternamax base stat total is 1125! That's higher than any other pokémon. It's hp rivals Blissey, it's defenses surpasses even Shuckle and it's speed rivals even Mewtwo. My god, that's ridiculous. Thank goodness it can't be used aside of the cameo with Eternabeam, because otherwise competitive play would be unbalanced af.
i thought that was excellent you got my like
And to make up for the rock gym leader always being the 1st one you fight, X and Y made him... The 2nd one you fight. Well, I have and idea for a badass rock-type trainer. He would be at least the eighth gym leader if not one of the elite four themselves. He would wear jewel-encrusted dinosaur bone armor and use a Pokemon from each generation: Kabutops, Tyranitar, Aggron, Rhyperior, Gigalith, and Tyrantrum. Rocks are badass, and they are fun to throw at birds.
I know this was made before fairy types came out but you should uptade it and tell us where YOU would put fairy types
Well.. I meant by move-type name/effect/animation... my favorite type is actually a tie: Poison/Bug
I like Poison too, its quite scary. Because you have to rush to a Pokemon centre when you get poisoned lol. Dragon is my favourite type though- A Poison-Dragon legend would be awesome.
Then USUM comes along and Naganadel was born. Well there's also Dragalge but he's not a legendary.
this is the first youtube video I ever liked. that's scary.
I've watched this video 100 times and it never gets old, but I wonder where Fairy type would be on this list. I never understood the fairy type, but the only thing i hate about fairy is that its weak to Poison and Steel :( but i love how its like overpowered
Allison Tucker Fairy is weak to Poison and Steel because pollution and industry destroy the beauty and harmony of nature. (Think Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest.) In folktales, cold iron (Steel) and various types of incense (Poison) were used to ward off the mischievous fae.Gameplay-wise, Fairy's weaknesses helped make the Poison and Steel Types more useful, because before, there were other, better options for their advantages. (Fire, Ice, Flying, Bug for Grass; Fighting for Rock AND Ice)
My opinion
18. Fairy
17. Normal
16. Steel
15. Ice
14. Dragon
13. Rock
12. Fighting
11. Dark
10. Ground
9. Physic
8. Electric
7. Poison
6. Ghost
5. Water
4. Bug
3. Fire
2. Grass
1. Flying
My opinion
Fun fact: as of gen 5, only 5 pokemon are pure steel-type: Mawile, Registeel, Klink, Klang, and Klinklang
I'm also excited for the Fairy type too! but I have a feeling the ones that hate the type are the ones who think about tinkerbell and Dragon type users.
please say the combination of moves that you use please
there is one secret pokemon with fire and water attributes
I think this dude will be happy to hear that it's rumored the new Fairy type is weak to Poison
