I love the ambilight when gaming and watching movies. It's immersive

Great timing. I’m looking at getting a 50” ambilight, primarily for my PlayStation 5 and movies. I’m upgrading from my 2007 hd ready Samsung TV.
I’m pretty close, to getting a 50”. I’d love to get an ambilight OLED but I just can’t afford it.

Glad I could help a bit! It will be a big jump from a TV from 07 regardless of what you choose.
Don’t worry too much about the OLED hype, don’t get me wrong it’s great, but most TV’s now are much brighter and sharper and will be a bid improvement!

just a word of caution from fellow Ambilight user. if you wanted to extend the Ambilight with your Hue lights, that has been removed from 2023 and newer models of Philips televisions.
Ambilight is still there awesome as ever, but you no longer get to add your hue color lights to be synced with your tv.

I have the Govee immersion set and I can't watch any good movie or play a game with ambilight anymore....once you get used to the lights and calibrate it correctly there is no way back because it adds so much to the immersion....especially scifi and horror films!

  • @Jurtaani

in my opinion the answer is yes and maybe?
Yes if you are talking about the old style Philips Ambilight as it was on the 2022 and older Philips televisions.
on those you can use the build in Ambilight+Hue feature and expand the Ambilight effect with Hue lights as long as you have that Hue bridge as well.
on 2023 and newer they removed that feature and now to get similar extended effect, you would need to use Hue Sync hdmi box.
i still have one 50 inch 2020 Ambilight Philips as my monitor/bedroom tv and 2022 55 inch model as my living-room tv.
i bought both this year used specifically because of that missing Ambilight+Hue feature on newer sets.
though the bedroom set either because it is older 2020 or because it uses the buggy Saphi OS from Philips instead of the Android tv of the more expensive models.
that 2020 model does not fully work with the new 1600lux color hue lamp.
i can find it during setup just fine and i can also connect to it using that tv, (meaning that the bulb turns blue) but if i try to fine tune it's location and height, that crashes the tv set completely and it restarts with the Ambilight+Hue disabled.
it is full power off restart as my laptop switches to it's own display what it doesn't do if i just put it on standby.
only way to trick that 1600lux bulb to work is to also connect one of my old 806lux bulbs alongside it.
i can then do the setup and bulb placement tune on the 806lux bulb and then switch to the 1600lux one and it uses the 806 placement data.

Thanks @scoby tech for this detailed explanation but I have a question for you which I'll be very glad if you can also give me a detailed response....
Is the 2024 Philips 65pml9009 a good TV in all ramifications that you can recommend considering its OS/screen, panel, longevity, etc....?

    • @Scoby
      @Scoby  Před 17 dny

Hey! So I have not seen it in person, but based purely on the specifications it seems to at least be a clear upgrade from the TV I am using (which I am happy with).
My biggest issue with most of the new Philips TV's is the lack of Android TV built in(now they are using Titan OS on most models). Which is just limiting if you want to install apps not on this, or have some side loaded android apps. But this can mostly be fixed with a chrome cast or android box.
I think overall if you were looking at a mini led and really like the ambilight features it would be a good TV to buy ^
If a local store has it on display defiently work checking out, here locally I never see mini led TV's as display models, they only seem to show OLED sadly

@@Scoby unfortunately in London, I've gone round the major electronic stores you can think of and I can authoritatively tell you that non of them have the Philips PML9009 & non of them is saying anything good about it either which is the reason they claim not to have it in store.
You also cannot see on CZcams any detailed review about the TV like you see other brands... 🤷🏽

I'd really love to buy one, but I'm afraid as in my case, I cannot place the tv in front of a wall. It should be in front of a window. Somebody has any experience with the Ambilight when it is not directly next to a wall?

My first amiblight in my previous house had this issue. It's fine, not ideal but still gives some extra color in the room which is nice. The best way to handle it is with a nice flat curtain or shade you can pull down when watching TV then it becomes much more managable

2008 Ambilight. I got it in '08 and still have it. Nothing I have bought even comes close to the HD 3D-like picture without using 3D glasses! I don't know how Philips does this, but it's got to be the best picture ever! The Ambilight was a nice feature, but it's nice to switch it off at times; it gets to be too much, especially at night. But still, I'm just about to buy a new model to see how it compares to my 2008 model! My Samsung TVs (and the 3D version), Hisense, and LG have been absolutely no match for this Philips. It's absolutely incredible to think Philips cracked this way back then! It's a picture you have to see in person. Showing them on videos, you don't see the depth and quality of the people or, say, rocks, etc., in the landscape backgrounds. It's mind-blowing for such an old system!

I thought yea, you totally forgot it's there. But as soon as I turn it off or I'm somewhere else, I instantly miss the Ambilight.
Also it feels like it's better for my eyes to have some kind of ambient lighting. Thanks to Ambilight I can turn my lights off, resulting in having no reflection of them on my screen.
But before on my old TV, I just put a normal LED-Strip for 10€ behind it, which was already a big improvement.

Agreed with some type of background lighting it makes TV in a dark area much less harsh! We have spots above our TV which also help soften it a bit!

Do you have any solution for ps4 plugged into Philips pus8818. In the game mode (VRR or even pro 120hz) it feels like game stutter but there is no input lag and game is very responsive. But if I want it to be smooth and change it to personal video settings or crystal clear and run “movement” for maximum then game runs smooth but there is noticeable input lag. Do you have any fix for that?

This TV is just awful. Freezes. Glitches. Buffering. Has ruined many a TV show for me. I dream of taking it to the dump. Sadly it was expensive so stuck with it for now. I really despise it.
