  • The Lotus by Toru Dutt - NET SET | Indian Literature | Heena Wadhwani
The Lotus is a Petrarchan sonnet composed by Toru Dutt, an Indian poet. It was published in 1882, as a part of her poetry collection, 'Ancient Ballads and Legends of Hindustan).
The Lotus focuses on the ideals of beauty across different cultures, and cultural synthesis. In this poem, Cupid, the Roman God of Love wishes to know who is the queen of all flowers. After much debate, Flora, the goddess of Nature, concludes that the most graceful flower is neither Rose nor Lily, but the very regal and very Indian Lotus.
This is an important work, prescribed for UPHESC, BA, MA, NTA NET, SET, UPSC and other competitive exams. This will also help students preparing for GATE, CUET PG and more. This video is a part of the UPHESC English syllabus series by Heena Wadhwani.
