Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This CZcams channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.
Watch the video of me buying the clubs here: czcams.com/video/zN5t_kk_ZeA/video.html
Rickie, I think we need a little garage simulator data from home. That 7.5 degree driver might be a trendsetter of the future!
Love the yonex bag, it rocks.
Hey Rick it isn’t letting me enter you give away on the last vid but I love your channel and I live just out side St. Andrews in Cupar where there is the oldest nine hole course in the world. I would love to get a prize or something from you
Love this video a d couldn't wait for it to be released. More great videos from you guys
Just fantastic to watch
Absolutely loved this 2 parter Rick. You've gotta make a mini series going around different cities and doing the same thing as what you've done here. Great content 👏👏👏👍
Couldn’t agree more👍
Probably one of the best golf videos I’ve watched since I’ve joined the golf world love these 2 parts
Well said, really enjoyed these 2 vids, clealy ignited some nostalgia fuelled passion there!
That would definitely make for some great stuff, especially if he could do it in different countries over time. See all different regional quirks
Defo this is great
Great way to showcase the highs and lows of the game we love, while demonstrating we don’t all need the latest and greatest equipment😁 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hell yeah! I hit fairways all the time, just not the hole I'm playing on
@@jackraylongiii9663 lmao big facts!
Im wondering if i have a bogus set of clubs then. I bought them for $200 about 10 years ago but only started playing within the last 3 years...every club 3w thru 6 iron goes 135-150...7-9 about 100...all of em straight as an arrow but i dont see how 3w thru 6 iron can all go the same distance
@@djc1485 hmmm... you may be hitting them wrong. Maybe get a lesson or go see your local pro for some free advice :)
@@djc1485 do the balls come off the club at different heights/angles at least?
Is it just me or does it seem like Rick always plays better whenever he uses older clubs?
Hahahaha honestly yes. Channels his youth probably.
i think you naturally do better when you feel like you’re not being competitive
@@Shakedown1969 Very true
Plays without expectations and overthinking.
It's probably that he's more relaxed given the expectations are lower.
Im a total beginner golfer and this video gave me the courage to go out and buy some hand me down used garbage clubs from goodwill, (almost an entire set). You made me realize It doesnt matter about skill level to have certain equipment. Just go out and use what you have and get comfortable/ used to it. This past week i have been binge watching your videos and you along with a few friends have helped so much. I have found a new love. Thank you!
I love having two part videos like this, especially when they dont feel like 2 parters. From a "Social Media" Standpoint, it reinforces that you're telling a story of sorts. Its a really good release flow.
Cute
He’s not gonna shag ye mate
"I'm in love with life." Your positivity is infectious. Absolutely loved this 2 part episode, I hit the bell after the first one so I'd get notified. So good!
Definitely much more enjoyable when the person is enjoying themselves in what they are doing. Definitely infectious.
Probably the best thing I've seen on not only CZcams but any network in a long time. Reminds me of my dad and grandad getting into golf for the first time.
Honestly the best video you’ve made in a long time, and they’re all great 😂 unbridled joy is infectious and difficult to replicate
It’s so true, you can genuinely see how much joy he is having. I bet if you asked him this is probably the most fun he’s had making a video in some time.
Loving the smiles and the energy and how much you enjoyed that!! 👌👍
Thanks so much!!
It’s make watching so much greater when you see the person watching is genuinely enjoying themselves. Completely infectious
Loved this Rick. I lived in St A for 17 years! Have played ALL of the holes and know every one of them. It is a special place. I left the town last year but couldn't give up my links ticket, so we bought a holiday home and are now back every weekend, and am still playing the links....the late summer evenings, with the long shadows
How expensive was it to play that course if you rember
Absolutely love it! That old hickory club looks like the new F2 Wedges that are face forward!
Rick, it’s been howling down snow here in Carnoustie today, the course is closed, so have just watched your 2 videos….a great way to spend 40 minutes or so.
Great memories of the Ladies Open too and the very generous Chloe Williams who made time for my daughter at 18.👏👍👍
As soon as Rick said thats going to be in his Top5. I thought of how much golf were getting to see from Rick this year with his break 75 I think I'd love to see a year end recap of something like his Top 5 holes, Top 5 drives, Top 5 chips, Top 5 putts, Top 5 scrambles, Top 5 lip outs
@Sam Woods should have never turned in all your guns willingly.
Rick goes out and buys some old clubs and plays well with them the first time out ... I wish I could play as well as that with the clubs I've been using for the past 6 years! Great vid!
This goes to show you that the clubs don't make much difference in most golfers. I have a set of 1998 clubs that still hit as good as a brand new set, except for the lack of spin due to the worn faces.
Not NEW but true; ist not the bow- it's always the indian
@@Hans-MVauEs yeah, while new clubs can provide more forgiveness and more grip on the ball than old clubs, unless you are a really good golfer, you'll never benefit from the exorbitant costs of new clubs.
One thing I have noticed hitting new clubs vs mine is weight. My clubs are heavy compared to new graphite shafted clubs, so I can swing the new ones a lot easier.
Yup. The only thing new in my bag are my SM8 wedges. I still have a Taylormade V-Steel 5wood in the bag. It’s been in there since 2006.
@@miguelitoaniceto5882 I wish I could reshaft my irons. Maybe one day I'll find some graphite shafts for cheap that I can use. I need to get the swing weight down on my clubs.
With Videos like this one, you brought back my enthusiasm for this wonderful sport. Thank you, Rick!
Thanks for the mega 2 parter Rick. It took me back 37 years, when me and 3 buddies took the train to St Andrews for a week of golf, using similar clubs - great memories, since forgotten brought back to life... thank you. On a side note, 61 dislikes...WTF is wrong with those people? Clearly not golfers.
Loved part 1 from this. Also saw you, Pete and Matt were at the pub together the other night. Outstanding!! Can not wait for the course vlogs of the 4 OG’s playing together again!!
Seriously!!!! Can not wait for them to get back together and make something!!! feel like for ever since they have.
Glad to see you gave the shout out out Stacked Golf and enjoyed the experience of purchasing and playing used clubs.
Definitely was super cool of him to admit where he got the idea from. Hopefully they get a nice jump in subscribers and viewers from this.
What I love about this video and the other videos you have made where you play with really cheap clubs, is it reinforces that the key component to playing good golf isn't the equipment, it's the golfer. Thank you for your consistently entertaining videos.
Great 2 part series there Rick. Really enjoyed seeing St Andrews. Your "negotiating" skills paid off showing us that you don't need the fanciest clubs to enjoy a game.
Your cap fits you perfectly, what a classy look !
Rick, all I can say is you get to live the stuff of golfer's dreams. I am sure many of us tear up watching you in these videos. Your enthusiasm and often your sense of youthful wonder is infectious. Keep doing what you do.
New to the channel and never comment on stuff, but the happiness on your face in the secondhand shop… 100 percent me too. Looking at all the old top line stuff. Wish we had more of that in Canada. And growing up a golfer without much money - all I could do was wish and hope. I would get the Golf Digest new club issue every year and just salivate. Meanwhile playing an ancient set of hand-me-downs. I now indulge the same way. Although, I was never an XL 2000 guy. Preferred the XL. Loved the video.
This maybe the best video you've ever put on CZcams Rick, thank you for doing this, as we've enjoyed your joy!
What I've learned the most after watching this video Rick? You've finally found thee Putter, that you always needed!
If we've learned nothing but the fact that golf is very old, and what is old in golf, will be new again in the future, because golf is timeless.
When rick goes to a thrift store for old clubs but yet plays with the exact 3+ wood that im using in my bag right now
Hahahaha that’s awesome. It’s a great looking club though.
It's a great club
You show us, why golf is not only a game, you show us, why it is a passion!!!!
His genuine excitement and appreciation for where he is playing shows the love he has for the game. Really enjoyable videos!
Always appreciate the enthusiasm for the tiniest details in the game of golf, Rick, thank you!
This was excellent. Courses some of us will never play except through true gentlemen like you. Thank you for the epic journeys, Rick!!!
I played Strathyrum at Saint Andrews in 2019. (and played my best round to date) never say never.
Loved this video! I'm new to golf via my father-in-law giving me his old clubs from the mid 90's and I'm completely in love with the game. Never thought I would hear myself saying that about golf. It was nice to see you do so well with those older clubs. Gives me some hope that these older clubs I'm using will be just fine!
Watching a grown, jaded golfer having fun...love it!!
Really nice to see someone having so much joy and pleasure playing golf a lesson for us all
Love this and love Stacked Golf - you should definitely do more of these
Amazing job with the second hand clubs Rick.
Love it! Now a month into my new job at the local municipal par 3 course, not a pitch and put, in Loughborough and keep telling the players that Rick is the guy to follow on CZcams. I also am loving life after lock down and getting back into golf after almost 20 years away from the game. Soon be into those dew laden, misty early autumn mornings with low sun rising through the trees, can't wait.
One of your best videos ever! Also, I love that you mentioned one of my other favorite channels STACKED GOLF in part 1. It’s a true bucket list trip for me to make it to St. Andrews. It probably won’t ever happen, but a guy can dream, right? Thanks for doing what you do!
Nothing like childish joy playing a game we love. The hat works for you, too! Fun video to watch..thanks, Rick!
Definitely a joy that’s infectious and make watching that much more enjoyable
The top flight xl-2000 brought back memories. Taking my Dad’s 9i and hitting it around the property growing up. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Rick!
Rick I have recently taken up golf more seriously and with my very limited budget your videos have helped me tremendously. Thank you for your passion for the game and sharing your knowledge!
Was so exited when this came out! Loving the content in St. Andrews, keep it up!
Glad you enjoy it!
Best way to start my day is when Rick uploads.
Same
@Leo Tarrant I live in America
At 40 years old Rick, I have just started playing golf, and I have to say every video I watch of yours inspires me even more… Thanks pal, and keep them coming
Man there’s just something about watching Rick play golf!!! Absolutely fantastic.
I feel like the hat found Rick rather than the other way around
Watching rick enjoy it so much makes me as a viewer enjoy it more haha!
Well done, Rick! Golf is not just the game for life, it is the game OF life! The old Scots who invented the game knew what they were doing. Golf teaches the player about life, it's lows and highs, and its triumphs and failures. Golf can never be conquered, but it can be learned from. It does not make character, but it reveals character.
This was great! I just discovered your channel (Rick) this past year, as I've gotten back into playing golf after being away for the past 25+ years. I really enjoyed watching you with Jon and Ash thrifting in the US, too, and saw this previous video of you thrifting in St. Andrews, then playing the course! So much fun and I'm learning so much from you. Please do more videos like this one! Now, I'm late for work, but can't wait to see more of your stuff. Thank you for taking us along for the ride!
woah! legit; you really pulling that look off. i'm not even angry. LOL!🤙
Mate . Loved this 2 parter . Really opened my eyes up to the retro clubs rather than striving for the latest newest . Keep it up dude 👍
Some of the clubs of 20 years ago go almost as far and are as fun to hit as the new stuff
@@kimgallagher490 dont forget the xl2000 ball was giving him an extra 10 yards ! 😁
When you spotted those DCI's on the shelf, my heart sank. I had a those once. 1 through LW on stock steel shafts. Bought them in the late 90's but had to sell them in 2008 when the housing market crashed (bk). Golf clubs, and fishing gear. Gone. I already hit a 7.5 degree driver, a Titleist 907D2, but those irons would be a nice gift. 😉 Thanks for sharing your experience Rick. ✌🏻⛳️
Your enthusiasm is contagious. St. Andrews with vintage clubs...Epic!!
Loved this video, was looking forward to part 2 and it really didn't disappoint! Easy to forget to enjoy yourself while playing and i just might look to find some of my junior clubs second hand after that for the memories!
Rick, stacked golf just gave you a shout out on their recent video. A collab in the future? Maybe an interview on the podcast?
I'll second the idea of a collab. Maybe sort of like the Golfbidder challenge, but Rick gives Stacked Golf a tiny budget (maybe $100 or less) where they go out and buy the clubs for him and then he plays a round with those clubs...
@@starwf07 love this idea
I also play old clubs routinely and love it. I actually score better with the old stuff. One of my golf pals once asked me why I play so many different clubs. I told him because golf is a game, and I want to have fun playing it.
Really enjoyed watching these two videos at St. Andrews. Your enthusiasm is what made them fun to watch. I follow Stacked Golf and you would have fun visiting them and going thrifting with them.
Truly a treat! Thank you for taking us on this absolute dream adventure.
Great content and great vibes as always Rick. You're a true credit to the game. Well done
Seriously! Stumbling across his videos last year was one the best things and got my interest and got me into the game and so glad he did.
This was my favorite video in a long time! Always wanted to play over there. I was the Top Flight king back in the day!!
Another fun video! This shows that it's not necessarily the "arrow" but the "Indian"! When I began playing golf in the late 70's you had to HIT a good shot to GET a good shot. Nothing compared with a solid "on the screws" drive or a sweet spot strike with a forged blade! I recently cleaned out my old clubs and donated them to the local Hospice Store. Those old blades were hard to part with but I'm too old to use them and their faces were worn down. I hope Rick does more videos with the old clubs!
I'm going to say it, I think the new cap is on point!
I couldn't pull it off, but damn Rick sure can!!!
Thrift Shop!! Alright Macklemore 😂
Macklemore took your Grandpa's style
Rick took your Grandpa's clubs (and his hat 😂)
A real pleasure to watch Rich, well done it’s good to see a craftsman who ca work with old,and new tools. Ooh the setting is calling me back.
And that ladies and gentleman is why Rick is the at the forefront of You Tube Golf, quite simply class!
Imagine if the final round of the masters required you to use “classic” clubs
First time at the channel, great that you took these older clubs and brought them back into play! The clubs are thanking you! Awesome video!!!
I still use that exact Big Bertha wood (except it's a 7 wood) to this day. It's a great club and feels amazing to me. It's the only old club in my bag I haven't replaced yet.
Well done mate. Funny how we like shiny new things. Those clubs still perform, makes you wonder why we change or how we look at someone with clubs they've had for 20 yrs.
A mate of mine put me onto Rick Shiels as I have started to get into Golf and his content is outstanding! Just enjoying it all! Thanks for the amazing content!
Shows you don't have to spend an arm and leg to have a great time. Love watching you having fun with these clubs.
You are so right about how you were feeling about your day. I was laughing and ooing with you. Great fun and awesome day. Cheers Rick.
Rick, would love to see more of this type of video. That Callaway 3+ looks absolutely mint. There's something beautiful about playing with old equipment and still hitting good shots or at least seeing how you can do. I regularly get out my old Ping i3 irons or my Top-Flite Tour Titanium set just to feel the vibe. The score is secondary. And the Stacked Golf people acknowledged your shout out. Maybe they'll send you some classics.
The 90s was swing easy, keep it in play, cotton large shirts, tin cup….then came 🐅 to change it forever…..great video…love that bullseye
Traveled from NZ for the Pipe Band World Champs and I played Jubilee with some hire clubs in August 2018 with some retired PE teachers and they made the experience even more enjoyable than it could have been. Brought back some amazing memories and I want to go back. Love the video.
Love when he plays with the "vintage" clubs. Love the Cap too, Rick. Keep it!
Real Joy, for life and for the game,, Thanks Rick I can not stop smiling.
I was so happy as you started so well I was teary eyed. Then you pulled the spoon. I held my breath. And two left handed putts! I was crying for you at the end.
Love seeing you giddy like a kid on the course, I think I smiled as much as you did while walking the streets and playing St. Andrews which is a dream of mine!! Def need more 2 parters in the same fashion. Enjoying a beautiful city/town, buying some hand me downs then shredding a few holes. Well done sir. Thanx for that 👍
Brilliant videos Rick. My gran used to live in St Andrews and we'd visit her a few times a year so those videos brought back some great memories of my childhood 😃
Rick, these videos were the best videos on your channel. Absolutely excellent. Reminds me of the golfbidder glory days!
Love your videos. They are so honest and fun to watch. They make me feel like it’s me the one who is playing or buying the clubs. Regards from Guatemala.
Been watching a lot, I mean a lot of your videos and I haven't seen such pure enjoyment in you playing a round as much as I have in this video. And the previous video of you shopping was quite enjoyable as well.
Just watched both of the St Andrew’s videos . Best you Tube golf I have seen for a long time . Good work Rick
Your joy is why we golf! Thanks Rick!
Just a joy to watch, and we all know those epic feelings of elation followed by despair that golf brings as the round progresses. Sitting here with 12 new inches of snow and no golf to be played in this locale any time soon, your videos are the hope of returning to a bit of golf normalcy. Thank you.
What a fun day on the golf course. Great followup to to used club shopping, classics
My first full set of clubs were Wilson Staff Fluid feels, with 3 persimmon woods. In those days Wilson were one of the top manufacturers. Quality clubs and another great video
It's wonderful to see how happy you are Rick. Not just in your golf but in your life in general! I love your content so much. It's never stale, always warm-hearted, and just brings joy to those of us who love this crazy game. Cheers!
Rick love the enthusiasm, the old school clubs and the great scenery of St. Andrews!
Thank you for your approach
To education and entertainment.
You provide a view to the Golf
World that inspires us all to
Improve and enjoy.
Certainly one of my favourite videos of yours. Both parts were excellent.
Loved the left handed putting when you cleaned the wrong side of the putter twice hahaha
Thank for making this video Rich. I still have my Acushnet Bullseye putter like the one you have for this round. I also have all my small headed woods from the 70s and 80s. I would love to see yo get my golf idol Mr. Gary Player to play a round with you, perhaps with the Shakespeare Wondershaft clubs he used in the 60s to win the 1965 U.S. Open. You are a true inspiration for golfers everywhere just like the legendary Mr. Gary Player. Most Sincerely, Bill M. in southeastern Connecticut☺
I'm new here. I'm a shite golfer to the point where I don't play anymore and I'm probably past even James Robinson's tuition. First golfing channel I've subscribed to after watching James play with the £70 set, after I found it randomly on the opening page of CZcams. Absolutely brilliant. Really enjoying the videos.
Thank you sir, just goes to show you don't need an expensive set of clubs. Just a great passion and an amazing swing and most importantly, have fun Thanks Rick, always look forward to seeing your videos and posts on Instagram.
Rick, it great just to see you smile when you playing golf.
Superb Video Rick. Genuine Joy and Happiness and can almost see the young Rick coming out and just having a ball!
I love watching you use the clubs you buy from local businesses. Great to see, and great clubs!
I'm up to St Andrews this weekend. Can't wait. Playing the Dukes course. Love that place. Great to see you loving it too.
Loved these two part videos! One of my favourite videos! It’s great to see old clubs being used and with great results! Keep the content flowing! ❤️
