Might be the theme from Delta Force, but for me this will always be the real music/intro for the Indy 500. Every time I hear it, I think of Indy. In fact it is my ringtone for the month May.
Even though I was just a little kid during the '90's, I can still remember the excitement in my house whenever this music started, because it always meant that it was race time. I first remember watching the 500 in 1996 at the age of 4 and I've been hooked ever since. Can't wait for May!
Tomorrow I am going to my 9th Indy 500. I have a tradition of watching this video every year right before I go to the race. This year the Speedway is sold out for the 100th running, it should be GREAT!

Mario won in 1969 and was so badly cheated out of a win in 1981 when Bobby Unser was passing cars illegally under the caution. Bobby was on the pole that year and Mario started last as he was not present for qualifying as he was off in Europe during Formula One . Now that's a racer.
2019 is 50 years since Mario’s win and 25 since his last 500 start. He finished 500 miles 8 of 29 starts but to me 1987 was his finest month just Andretti Luck beat him

That's GREAT that you've been to so many Indy 500's - you must live in Indiana. I come in from Washington D.C., so it's a big thing just getting there...and I worry SOOO much about the rain in May in Indiana, but hopefully the weather will cooperate.

IMS never releases "official" attendance info, the grandstands hold about 250K, with the infield (in the early 90's there were more people in and around the speedway then in the stands) which drove the attendance to around 400K. It isn't beyond the realm of possiblility to have close to 500,000 people in the vacinity of the speedway. Pole day (in the early 90's) would draw 150,000 people which was more than ANY NASCAR race at that time. One of the reasons's Nascar was secretly behind the split..
Mario Andretti, the driver his grandson should want to be like. Absolute class, but sure he had his momments. Oh in 1981, he should be the winner, but USAC was in charge, the kings of screwing something up. Look at the new Silver Crown Car.

I wonder what music was played when they were announcing the starting field that year. I think it's as cool as the Delta Force theme. I know the music played during the unveiling of the starting field was used for the '92 & '95 season as well. Does anybody know what that music is?
You are so right. I went to my first Indy 500 last year and taped the coverage. When I got home to watch the coverage (as has been the case for the past 10 years) I was so disappointed by this stupid "Gathering Storm" crap that ABC-TV showed at the beginning of it's telecast. Instead of giving this race some dignity, they want to be trendy and have psychotic graphics. Nor are the stands empty on pole and qualifying days because everybody's watching it on TV either.
Never in motorsports was there ever such buildup and hype for such failure as this intro and Mario's finish in his last Indy. Meanwhile, Team Penske, as usual, was making a mockery of the competition. 😂😂😂 #Facts
I will never see the Cubs win the World Series, I will never see a triple crown in horse racing, and I will never see an Andretti win at Indianapolis at this rate. SIGH X_X
