Hi just started watching your videos there excellent.
I’m a Scotsmen JWblue label is excellent stuff. I worked in a glass bottle factory that made the bottles for the blue label and you wouldn’t believe the steps taken to insure every bottle is flawless the blue colouring and thickness of the glass is very hard to achieve and unfortunately it’s the main reason a 70cl bottle will set you back anywhere from £130 to £150
Now don’t get me wrong I’m a sucker for presentation I would love it if JW just used cheaper bottles and sold the blue labe at around about £90-£100 it would still be very expensive for me personally but I could push the boat out know and again 😂
Love and peace from Bonny Scotland 🏴 slàinte 🥃
I was thinking precisely about how the coloring is made.
I assume the coloring is only on the outer surface of the bottle, in order to avoid the coloring impacting on the whiskey itself...
But yeah, I would also buy it more often if it were a little bit less expensive due to a normal and clear bottle.
Also, I would love to visit Scotland, there's something magical about your country.
I hope I'll manage to do that in the not so distant future.
I would honestly love to visit Ireland and Wales too, funny enough the region I'm less attracted to is England. For some reason. 😅
May I ask, in what type of relations you Scots are with Ireland and Wales?
Cheers from Milan, Italy. 🇮🇹
I come from a family of Irish immigrants so I have great relations with them. The Welsh are good lads to. The Scot’s Welsh and Irish are all Celts we bong over a common hatred of the English 😂
Just got my first bottle of Blue Label, been watching your videos a long time Horst, big fan of your commentary and style. Cracked it open to celebrate my new job offer today. Amazing.
Amazing. It tastes like a 20 bottle. You're one of them, a whiskey conisiuur. It all taste the same pal. Better mixed with coke. , even that is rubbish.
@@gryjss9167 If you don't like whisky on its own or can't taste the differences you can just say so.
@gryjss9167 hahah what do you know. Drink your 20 quid bottles with no flavour. Enjoy
Just bought a bottle tonight for $180 at my local wine and liquor wholesaler. Worth every penny in my opinion. Delicious aroma, ridiculously smooth, and very flavorful without the intense burn. Definitely my favorite label of the brand. Cheers to jim for creating this masterpiece.
Un elisir 🚬...
Lol el coco me hiso comprar e invertir en una caja de 16 botellitas
This is by far the best blend I've had, the taste is very unique and absolutely delicious.
I tried the blue label yesterday I thought the same. I've had shots in New York. Today I had four shots in California it is a really consistent whiskey. The blue label is a type of whiskey that I like to drink at least once a year on a wonderful occasion. I would highly recommend it.
My mother got one as a gift a month ago, and we've decided to open it in December 31st. I bought a cheap blended scotch and a Single malted Glennfiddich 12 so I can compare when the time comes. Thank you so much for your reviews and for introducing the world of whiskies to us 🙋🏽♂️
Tag me and keep me posted
What glass are you using in the video?
There are several decent Johnnies for the price - Black is fantastic for as little as $27. Green is a blended malt and excellent for about $43. And I really like the 18 for its caramel, smoke and butterscotch. Blue clearly has very old whisky and is interesting, but I agree with others here that at $150 it's not a good value. If it had a 21 year age statement or more I'd give it more credit. And I love the slick mouthfeel. It's well put together. But when you can get Talisker 18 (and a hundred others) for less, you just can't justify it.
Johnny Walker's own Green label is, if anything, just as good if not better than Blue at 40%, but you'd get three bottles of Green at 43% ABV for the price of one Blue (in New Zealand, $230.) So I'll stick with Green for a treat and Vat 69 ($46 for 1 litre) as a daily dram.
Had JW Blue Label for the first time last night. JW Green Label had been my favorite JW but I must say the Blue Label has taken my #1 spot of the JW line now.
Much rather have 4 full 70cl bottles of: Lagavulin16, Ardbeg10 & 2 Glenfiddich15's
Why you no like Laphroaig :(?
Absolutly agree.
Or 6 bittles of highland park 12
Is wild turkey off the table? 101
@@kristikramer4111 I really like Laphroaig but then again I like a bit of smoke with my whisky, Talisker also make really nice whisky too.
If my father were still around id buy him a bottle of johnnie walker blue label, not because its the best whisky for that price range but because he'd recognize it. Thats why still blue label exists in the age of the internet
You’ll be able to enjoy some with him one day in the life after this one 🙏🏻
Lovely whiskey and beautiful submarine
I tried this when I visited my uncle and can say that it's the smoothest to swallow of all the JW (except the green label which i haven't tasted yet) But Double Black for me is worth every penny. Cheers!
The double black for me is the best Johnnie.
Really love the oak forward flavor of blue label. This might be my favorite dram. So we’ll balanced, in my opinion.
Luening Host Luening is my whisky hero!
The best value Johnnie Walker is by far the Green Label. It is superb. Don't get me wrong, Platinum and Blue are fantastic, but the Green at 1/2 and less than 1/3 the price respectively, Green Label is a no-brainer.
Where can u find the green label ?
@@rockybaucom I live in Canada. I've always had mine delivered to the local LCBO after ordering it from LCBO.com.
I worked in William Grants and sons in Scotland. I could produce a bottle of whiskey and send it to France and purchase it from France cheaper than I could out of the staff shop at William Grants. Most of the money went to the government
The Double Black is also very good.
Yes, I agree. I used to like the Green also, but for some reason I don't like it anymore. I really like the Double Black though.
Same here. A more robust one. Platinum was good too but it tastes like there is a bit more "alcohol" in it. Double black was and still my all time favorite. Sure Blue Label is better than double black but it isn't worth every penny imo.
Double black was freakin nasty for me. Green label not too bad but blue label is by far the best for jw.
This guy is like a German Christopher Walken. I love these videos.
Which glass do you use?
It looks like Glencairn but with a comfortable bottom to grip.
I use the Costco tiramisu glasses lol. Seriously i used to buy the Costco tiramisu just cause the glass make perfect whiskey sipping glasses. I love blue label. When costco had it on sale last year for $150 i bought two bottles
When I visited a friend in peru this stuff was hot there
Horst, you look like my father-in-law who got me into whisky. Loving your videos.
I wish you would make a video about your preferred alcohol percentage in whisky. And whether this changes depending on the style (Highland, Islay, Bourbon..etc.)
Out of curisoity what is your preffered percentage, I tend to favour 45% ABV most of the time. There is a huge difference between 40% and 45% more than a lot of normal people would imagine.
@@gravemind6536 well maybe 46-48% for Scotch, depending on the actual bottle. And 50% for bourbon.
@@Y2H I am still quite early on my journey of trying whisky as I am quite young although for my age I think my taste in whisky is a rareity. I still have loads of stuff I need to try and eventually I'll get round to it there is lots of good stuff out there and I am sure I will discover a lot of new experiences. Whisky is the only drink I enjoy as I don't like Beer, wine or any other spirits and I've always been that way a lot of people my age take the piss out of my love of whisky.
@@gravemind6536 I enjoy very few spirits other than whisky too.
The Oban 21 is 57% and holy shit i thought it was too high. Made it not as smooth and it seriously numbed my mouth. Plus at $400 i was only gonna sip a shot glass of it, not drink enough to get drunk in one sitting. Cause of that I prefer Oban 18
I've a doubt . Does Blue label has different varieties ???
We bought one when my uncle died, nice way to celebrate his life.
Lol
I thought All Lives Mattered?
In 2020 Johnny Walker turns 200. I can’t wait for the commemorative offering.
Interesting
Unfortunately for the price there are too many better whisky available.
Exactly.
True.
Indubitably.
If its the casks edition maybe ill consider. but regular blue and for a blend at that price? smdh
Agreed, personally I prefer Green label.
We JUST reviewed this. Nice stuff for sure, but not something we would actually buy as it's almost too easy drinking for our taste. That being said, we'd gladly drink it if you poured us a dram. Nice review! Cheers!
It's a $300 bottle here in Canada. I've heard it is very good, but just not quite $300 good. I haven't had the pleasure as yet, so I can't say, personally.
Chivas regal 18 is the best alternative, also blended for 50-60€
100% agree but it too is rather expensive for a blend :(
@@jayaramg9411 Depends what the blend is, if it is a blend of good single malts its good like with JW Green Label but if its just a normal blend of grains then yeah I wouldn't want to pay a lot for a blend.
I disagree, the XR21 years is by far superior to the chivas royal salute and the Chivas 18, the nose is just as complex as the one found in the blue label and the taste is rich and smooth as silk, a must buy for me and great value for money.
Aside from the hype that comes with this scotch, it is a very well balanced whiskey. Very smooth with the touch of smoke. Amazing! "If you can find it in the 4 pack for 100$ us it's a steal"
I got the same 4 pack...I think it was $80 tho!Blue label,Platinum label,Gold Reserve and Black label.
@George Job well considering im Irish lad it makes sense to me
@George Job the grammar police laddies watch your arses
Three years later after inflation I scored a 4 pack today for $89! Can't wait to try it.
Es un elixir
I prefer the Green.
I was able to find this in 750ml at Costco on sale for $125 one day a couple of years ago I HAD to get one
SubZero great price
At that price, it’s worth it. In central Ohio, where I live, it’s typically $200-225 depending on where you go. $200 is too much IMO.
MTH Power Wash LLC I’m originally a Trumbull County boy myself. Great to see someone from the area.
@MTH Power Wash LLC ouch
@@Disasterpiece5150 yeah, I thought so too especially since I used to receive liquor at a restaurant and they would get it regularly for $225. So when I saw it at that ridiculous price I had to get one
I bought this for my Dad because he said he wanted it.
The Smoothest and I mean smooth. 3 shots is almost to much.
Nice
blue label is a commercial success that is all.. you can buy much much better with the half price of that whisky.it is not bad but not worth that money
Wow he changed the mic ! It's not the same 😢
The new 40% abv was good but I like the old 43% abv more 😊
in South Africa by regulation they produce 43% abv.
@@Sereph613 that's great news! 😊
That's def a John deer in the background
I just drank blue label today and i got this recommended by CZcams. Wow.
coincidence
Turn off your camera and mic. They’re watching you!
@@drunkenek you are RIGHT sir, message ACKNOWLEGED.😂😂
Flashback from my days at United Airlines during the 1990s
...Blue Label was "free"
....if one paid $3000+ USD for first class, each way, from the USA to Asia
That's not free now is it lol
@5:04 I was waiting on that part 💯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤
I have no idea why I got this recommendation..
me too
You got lucky
Your spirit knows why
Like The Macallan 18 the Johnnie Walker Blue Label tastes great, however that price point......
If you like it. Then its worth it. Your money isnt going with you to the grave and you never know when its your turn.
I had macallan 12 and 15 today. Never had macallan 18 but i actually like the 12 better than 15. But i like blue label better than both
it's like any well known brand out there. you're paying for the whiskey and the name. same thing with Sony or Toyota or anything else. I don't mind paying a little extra because I know it will always be good
and I know Sony and Toyota aren't whiskeys I'm just saying you pay a little more for the name of a company that generally does a consistent job of making something worth buying
Around 320$ here in Dehradun, India.
Un elissir
Very good review
I bought this bottle for my Dad's 70th birthday. I got it purely for the name. I'm sure there's better for the price but the Blue Label is just cooler.
I’m dying to try a bottle. TotalWine has it right now for $149. For the time being, I’m going have to settle for the JW Gold label.
Good review otherwise.
I bought it from total wine for $250 last month... did it really go up that much... or maybe it's just my area..
@@liamkneeson8866 it just varies. Try costco. Nov2020 i bought blue label on sale for $150 but Jan 2021 it was $178. I still bought it though lol. So good
@@liamkneeson8866 230$ in india
This is the best blend of all time, trust me.
Everyone complaining about the price needs to do what he was from @9:03 and do the same with that other shiitee lol
nicevideo bravo!
From what I hear about this as much as i'd love to try it, it's just not worth the price apparently. Can find way better single malts for way cheaper lol. Cool video though, I'll live vicariously through your tasting. From what I was told, it smells great but the taste is lacking.
Slum Shady of course you can but thats not the point. Why comparing apples to oranges? Try to find a better blended with lower price.
@@Wekotin I don't want too? I guess you didn't get my point.
Love the Green Label but can’t justify the price of this one.... maybe one day I’ll try it
It's around 240-250 euros in Croatia at the moment. Never bought it, since it's far above what my budget allows, and never tasted it, but it seems far overpriced for a NAS blended whisky.
Maybe I'm wrong, though...
Sir I appreciate
Blue label 🍻❤😍
you look like raymond reddingtons father
What's your name????
Lovely smooth whisky. Great review.
Thank you!
The Blue is an absolute delight! I can only speak for myself and say that I prefer Johnnie Walker to any other whiskey. I have not tried every whiskey out there but I have tried all the ones people talk about and johnnie is my favorite. Though I would choose the ultimate 18 for a daily drinker.
Double Black imo is worth every penny. It has a more robust character in it. Enjoyed the 18 yrs platinum tho last year.
@@dinjeruelpagliawan502 Tried both. Double Black is indeed good but overpriced, especially if compared to regular 12 YO Black Label (it was launched when 12 year matured whisky at JW was in short supply), and Platinum didn't impress me at all, considering the maturation time and the price.
It is an irony that this super expensive whiskey doesnt have any age statement and does contain grain whiskey.
And it's twice the irony that NAS "Double Black" is more expensive than "ordinary" 12 YO Black Label. That's marketing for you...
Blue label is my favorite but im not going to frequently drop 170$ on a bottle :P green label is my casual go to. blue label is for when the good best friends come over.
Yes I just got one for when guests come over
Yea, I went out to eat once and the place happened to have this drink and it was way more expensive than the dinner altogether. And it was only just a cup full, not even a full bottle.
Hey can you try Macdonald's Glencoe?
Going by Sir's Review..... , a #Diplomaticoscigar will pair well.
Nice
I love blue whiskey is the pride of Scotland.
Haters can hate but i like blue label. Especially bought on sale at Costco
mentira es solo un elisir y nada mas
You gotta love this channel, me myself im drinkin’ from my 1l bottle of Jameson lol.
నీ గొంతులో జేంసన్ పడ్డది అన్నమాట
@@praveenkumar4657 I agree
Buy this one or the Highland Park 18?
Both are exceptional whiskies, but between those two we would recommend the Highland Park 18 Years. It offers more complexity for a cheaper price and is also a Single Malt rather than a Blended Whisky.
@@Whiskycom Drink it neat or with a drop of water? I allways drink my whiskys neat or with 1 - 2 drops of cold water but never with ice in it
@@gustavjansson6499 blue doesn't really need added water since the whiskey doesn't have many tannins, isn't a higher avb, and isn't oily.
Nice....
Beautiful bottle OK taste
Nice whisky 🥃
Horst. You opened it wrong. You supposed to pull upwards from the string thingy. That will break the seal.
What a hack
lol. It’s as smooth as the late frummer suits!!! Be careful with this one as it is very smooth and easy to drink. Slainte!
This is what Grandma drank. I didn’t know at the time how expensive it was.
I’ve try it and is really nice but even I’m Welty I’m not going to pay 100+ euro ... simple just buy green label and enjoy !!!
currently its priced at €254 or $277!
🇩🇴 Shout out to all the Dominicans buying all the blue label on the planet
People are comparing blended whisky to single malts 🤦🏼♂️.. Here’s a challenge for you. Try to find a better blended cheaper. And no JW Green Label is not blended, it’s blended malt yet another animal.
Didn't take the last sip eh? Go figure. I would like to taste that but my favorite, JW black 12, would remain, I suspect. Never had a chance to taste that. Though I've tasted much more expensive stuff, I never had the urge to pay premium for a blend with only 40% ABV.
Favorite amongst the JW line, I might add.
I was super disappointed in JW Blue Label, personally. I didn't like it at all. I found Green Label to be much more enjoyable, even pretty good. But, for the most part, I just don't care for Johnnie Walker. I do enjoy your reviews, Mr. Luening. Thank you.
Some day I'll try green. I've had black and blue side by side and much preferred blue but haven't had green
Rumor is that the the barrels used are at least 32 years aged.
If I am new to Scotch, would I hate this?
No, it's very smooth and tastes great. And I'm not a huge fan of any scotch, but if I could drink this all the time I definitely would. Very easy to drink.
@@GrAPeBombZ Thanks! I broke down and bought a bottle about a month ago. It was an amazing decision. I think, while expensive, a very warm welcome to the flavors scotch can provide. I look forward to diving in more!
Awesome 😎
I’m a Mad Dog 20/20 kinda guy..
Probably Scottish as well 😂
I’m a buckfast drinker myself but can appreciate a nice whisky. A man of all classes (mostly lower) 😂
If i should buy an expensive whisky, should i go for this one or something else? Please let me know what you think and give me some ideas, all answers are welcome and then i will see what i can get my hands on
Johnnie Walker Blue Label is really great, but without knowing your preferences it is hard to determine a good high priced whisky
How about a budlight ?
Thid gentleman is a gentleman you would want to just sit with and not get drunk and just open the finest wines ever made by man
this guy has my dream job
You the Men you should do tours
I tried the blue once, I wasn't that much impressed, maybe it was the Macallan 21 right afterward that really caught my attention. BTW, JWB makes me think of that fat actor from Casablanca, Sydney Greenstreet. Very worldly, cosmopolitan and refined but so round as to have no edges whatsoever!
Yeah for the price I would stick with Macallan 15 any day. Different animals, I realize, but I haven't found a better whisky in that price range.
I've never bought a bottle myself, but I've had it in first class on Singapore Airlines and Asiana Airlines. Not impressed. I switched to the single malt on offer straight away.
It's great with a cigar...
It's $300 a bottle here in 🇨🇦 🍁
I know it’s crazy still $320 after the COVID, I guess they haven’t been selling all that much otherwise price would have gone up. I just get them at
duty free. $98USD in 2005 in HK and then $129.00USD in Chicago in 2012. I still haven’t opened them. lol.
Nice Rolex Submariner
Horst Leuning is the original
As of 2024 $250 and up here in Las Vegas. Every where.
