  • We had a fabulously comprehensive masterclass tasting of Johnnie Walker Blue Label with Colin Dunn, Diageo's malt whisky brand ambassador.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: Fragrant with good body. Notes of oak, crisp spice, dried fruit, pastries. Berry fruits, aniseed, hints of cedar, a touch of spice and citrus.
Palate: Supple and balanced. Good toffee and hints of very wistful smoke. Chocolate, hints of grass and a good hit of malt.
Finish: Floral, oaky, good length, urged on by a plume of very well-kept, highland style smoke. Dried fruit, spice, honey.
Overall: One of the ultimate premium blends, Blue Label is a legend in its own right and will continue to be.

Drinking a dram you of blue I got as a gift, got to be honest for the hype and price it is underwhelming. I was very exited to try this whisky, but let down a little overall. Recommended Glenfiddich 18 instead. It tastes like if Chivas Regal had a smother better finish, with a hint of vanilla custard. Worth a try once.

For whiskey enthusiasts, blue label can come across as underwhelming.
They then attribute that to a lack of quality, and over inflated price point.
The fact of the matter is, the blue label blend is a blend of scotch whiskeys dating 24-60 years old.
Its flavors are subtle, which makes it more enjoyable to savour.

The world’s best-selling Scotch brand is, of course, Diageo’s blended Scotch whisky brand Johnnie Walker. This is of course because they make what real people like to drink. Not some super peated fan boy hipster whiskey of the month.

Blue Label contains blends of different Scotches between the ages of 8 and 20 years the last I remember checking but when it comes to a blended whisky the youngest whisky in the blend will be the final products age statement (at least according to whisky snobs)

The emperor’s new clothes of whisky. Blue Label is the whisky a non whisky drinker buys to impress his ‘non whisky drinking brand obsessed’ acquaintances. Then they all pretend to taste how expensive it is.
