    Nope. That 98 HP engine is not going 100 mph at 2800 rpms....
    Going to show you a fix for this generation of Honda speedometers. Hope it works for you!

    Glad I found this because my 95 Civic dx is doing the same. Actually went completely out for a week and then came back. Today it jumped to 120 and then back around to the under the 0 stopper

      If u pull the speedo, you should also reflow all of the welds around the dial as well. I wish I did that in this video too. Good luck!

    This happened on my 99 civic, sometimes I was able to smack it to work, & sometimes it would work after long drives, but it would erratic. I thought I would have to solder something in, but I didn't know it just needed to be resoldered like this. Gonna give it a shot & see what happens!

    Did you have to move the needle back at all because it would get stuck under the bar or did it just go back to normal when it worked?

    • @ktecgarage

      Mine would pop back counter clockwise even when it was jammed under the stop.

      @ktecgarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Here is a link to the complete 93 Civic wiring schematic. It will let you download it PDF or just scroll through. The circuit your looking for is called VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Hope it helps.

    While in use, it goes full round by itself and gets stuck at 0. It doesn't go forward. Is the problem vvs or the indicator?

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  Před 2 lety

      If it's this vintage Honda, I'd say it was the solder joints being cracked. You can put a volt meter on the speed sensor and spin the tire by hand to test that.

    I don’t understand what is happening when you heat up the solder. How does the speed know?

    • @jessebennett7858
      @jessebennett7858 Před rokem

      solder was old and cracked reheating it made a nice and smooth connection to the sensers

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  Před 2 lety

      If it doesn't move even when you shut the car off, you may need a salvage cluster. Hard to say for sure. Good luck

    Mine has a delay under 20kmh, then jumps all the way up to 30/40. Any thoughts?

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  Před 11 měsíci +1

      If it works sometimes or erratically, then it's probably a cracked solder joint. If I redid the video today, I would also remove the speedometer from the cluster and show the solder joints on that part as well. I had broken solder joints in the HVAC head and master relay as well. Seems to be an issue with this generation.
      It could also be a speed sensor, but mine was the solder.

    will my spedometer work again if i just get a new one?

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  Před 2 lety

      It is most likely broken solder joints if your car is the same vintage Honda. A new one will fix it if you can actually find one.

  • @alyssal5926
    @alyssal5926 Před 2 lety

    Does this work with the 97?

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  Před 2 lety

      If cracked solder joints are causing your problem, then yes. The speedo should be pulled and ALL of the joints inspected with a magnifying glass. If you can bang it and it changes the way it functions, something is loose. Good luck!

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  Před 11 měsíci

      If you take the dial assembly of the speedometer out of the cluster, you will see it has solder joints up and down each side. I would reflow them as well. This generation's solder joints crack everywhere. I had to do the main relay and hvac head joints too. Good luck!

      @@ktecgarage ok ok so correct me if Im wrong. I have to take the clear cover off first and then it’s I believe two Phillips screws on the back of the cluster (where I saw you reflowed some of the first terminals). And then (if I get it off first) your saying it’s on the sides, correct?
