    Love how they used little motifs from both Engage the Enemy and Counterattack in the mid section. Really sells the mood they're going for.

    Just going to let my thoughts run wild here.
    Imo, one of the best things about the storytelling/conveyance of symbolism, themes, and real-life messages in the Xenoblade games is how the OST works with the in-game events and plot points to really drive home all the stuff that's happening and the emotions that come with it--this theme being just one of many, many examples. On their own, the plot and OST are already amazing, but the synergy of both working in harmony is...moving. Powerfully and profoundly so. I've felt that most people aren't receptive of symbolism and such in games, even when the messages are genuinely important for us on this side of the fourth wall--an honestly unfair perspective that stems from my own traumatic past and misanthropy that I've struggled with as a result. Those past events are also why the overarching story in Xenoblade, and the various struggles of all the characters as part of it, are personal for me much of the time. I've never really had good experiences with humanity, so finding validation in games and other creative works has made all the difference for me.
    ...But seeing all the comments from other people here, who've been impacted the same way by these games...well. Maybe there's a way for me to connect with others, too. After all, art has the power to move people in ways words cannot, and reach across the many boundaries and barriers humans put up around themselves (and each other, even). Language and cultural differences can't stop the impact, either, so art can be a way to spark much-needed change. I don't think I need to explain how that applies to the real world, especially now.
    I've already found that trying to "socialize" normally just...doesn't work. After all that's happened, I'll never be able to connect with people normally, nor truly integrate into any existing society. But ours is world full of infinite possibilities, and one where, sometimes, the best path forward is one you create yourself (while walking alongside everyone else). I'm trying to work on that now.
    Xenoblade has always told this truth in bits and pieces through its storytelling, character development and interaction, and worldbuilding. I just hope that truth will reach more and more people over time, because _this_ world needs it now.

      Check out the book Healing Developmental Trauma

    • @seanobrien276
      @seanobrien276 Před rokem +2

      @@apnwu369 Missing the point. Furthermore, "healing" implies there was a state of wellness before trauma/injury/etc. disrupted that. Same with the concept of "recovery," which is the endgoal of therapy. Yeah, I understand that, and maybe that works just fine for most other people (just a guess, mind you). But in my case, I was born into trauma, and that was my norm for the first 25 years of my life. I have no prior state of wellness to recover back to, and there is no therapy or procedure that can change what happened in my past, nor how I was affected.
      That's why I said, I've been working on creating my own path--and re-creating myself, as an individual.
      This is something most humans cannot comprehend; in fact, many simply refuse to acknowledge that someone can, in one sense, be killed the way I was. If anything, it seems like most people live in some magical fantasy world where anyone and anything can be "fixed" through therapy, medicine, science, etc. Nobody really wants to acknowledge that some things cannot be fixed, and some wounds never, ever heal. Honestly, from where I stand, it's an expression of human weakness, more than anything--a refusal to accept the innate imperfection that comes with being human. We don't have all the answers, and we never will, because we're not perfect beings in any sense. Everything we create, and every idea or system we conceive, will reflect that innate imperfection. Obviously that doesn't mean we should just give up on life or anything. It _does_ mean that we should be striving for self-improvement--not just with science, society, and other human things like that, but in ourselves, as a collective species.
      For some of us, like me, this means facing the past, and working little by little to unearth harrowing details that nobody else can truly understand. It also means using the shattered remains of whoever I might have been had humans actually treated me, my development, and my life with respect and decency, and creating an entirely new foundation from the rubble. To simply be "healed" would rob me of that opportunity. Re-creating myself, and taking my development into my own hands, has been more validating than anything other people have ever done (or tried to do); this is how I've worked on healing my own trauma. And no, I won't apologize for pretty much saying "humans have not been helpful."
      ...But anyway.
      To get back on topic: this struggle for self-awareness, self-development, and self-validation was at the core of Xenoblade 3's story. Likewise, Z and Mobius, with their refusal to truly acknowledge anything except themselves and their own existence--and preventing the world as a whole, along with its inhabitants, from advancing in the process--are pretty representative of all the humans who see nothing outside the little glass dome they call "civilization." There are so many people who think, act, and live as those nothing exists outside the fantasy world they know--not even when nature comes in and ravages that world (which is happening more frequently and with more severity nowadays).
      What some of us need isn't "therapy," or to be "fixed" or "educated," or molded into things that are "suitable" for society and civilization, but to be given the opportunity to create our own place in the world, and then build bridges with everyone else from there. We need to be given the freedom to create our own laws and systems--things that work specifically for our own needs--and the chance to share that with everyone else, that we can all learn from each other and grow together. I guarantee, I'm not the only who needs that to actually move forward.
      ...But the real question is, will humans ever be able to accept this? And to be clear, I'm not singling out any one group, nor excluding myself (because I still harbor a lot of misanthropic sentiments and trying to find ways to work past that). I'm talking about "humanity" as a whole--the collective species of human beings, as we tend to call ourselves. And, if the answer is "not a chance," then what'll it take for those of us in question to actually be given the right--the _freedom_--to create our own paths and places in the world, and yes, to make as many mistakes and take as many falls as we need in order to finally get it right?
      Are we gonna have to spark a genuine human revolution, like Noah and Co. did against the remnants of humans long-past, who refused to accept their own imperfection and inevitable end, and prevented everyone else from growing and advancing in the process? Because at least from where I stand, it's really looking like that's the only option as of now.
