Have you ever wondered what your dogs get up to while you are asleep? We have and this video really made us laugh! #dogs #spycam #germanshepherd
What's really neat is the way they instinctively take turns staying alert. There's always one dog -- which switches throughout the night -- which is restless and pops its head up every few minutes to check for danger. We're seeing millions of years of evolved pack behaviour, and probably a large part of the reason why dogs became the first domesticated species.
OMG exactly!!! Thatâs so cool!!!
Fixing to get me a shepherd pup
I can't wait...I'm gonna love him and hug him and squeeze him and his name is gonna be George đđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł

Interesting insight!
So if you only have one shepherd it will stay up all night.
A miracle that you can sleep at all!!

I had one growing up. She would patrol the house every night. One night I had a night terror. I must have cried out. Open my eyes to a huge brown fluffy head licking my face. She hopped up and laid beside me and rested her head on my stomach. Stroked her until I calmed down and began to fall asleep. Just before I passed out, she gently stood up and hopped down. She went back to her nightly patrol.

My male German Shepherd is 5 yrs old and for the longest time I thought something was wrong with him because he didnât seem to sleep more than 30-45 minutes at a time. Heâs constantly patrolling, scaring the hell outta me in the middle of the night because he sees a leaf out of place on a tree đ€Ł. He sees cats, dogs and people with his insane 500 yard vision and will let the entire neighborhood know heâs going to bed when I let him out for the last time at night. He refuses to come in at night if he hasnât checked our entire lot. He has 8-10 ft pogo stick vert reps and can clear our acre lot in about 3 bounds. He is an absolutely magnificent beast. He is the absolute best, most loyal, smartest dog I have ever had. I canât imagine him leaving me at some point. Our bond is beyond measure.
That's so cool! I hope to have a connection like that with a doggy of my own, someday. I really do believe that there's a spiritual bond between humans and dogs.

If you need a dog to feel secure at night, you need to reassess your lifestyle.
@@maccybear8093 depends where you live
This perfectly explains why during the day your dog is asleep most of the time because since you're part of his pack, you're 'on duty' and they're resting. During the night, this switches. You can see this with all 3 dogs here in a rotation. Truly amazing to see evolution hasn't changed at all!
My pugs are asleep all day and night so I can't relate
Honestly, i just don't get it why all dogs in my neighborhood tend to bark a lot at night.
Youâre just seeing the parts of the video that are interesting. The video cuts a lot, thereâd be no point to showing us an hour of 3 dogs and a woman not moving in a bed. (Not to mention creepy)
@@Qwerty0791 no I have had dogs almost my entire life and bred boxers. They definitely have done this when I slept in rotation.
@@Ryancelot interesting, might be breed specific? I know pugs were never really meant to exist naturally outside purely being a pet and not for self defense at all.
As someone that has two GSDs this is spot on. I'm surprised you didn't get to experience the early morning mattress wrestling match like I do, that's an alarm clock that will wake you up.
I know EXACTLY how that feels!!!
You hit the nail on the head!
Very true!
My dog goes to bed around 10pm, but he'll never sleep until I do. If I work late in bed, sometime even until 2 pm, he'll be awake the entire time, just observing me from his bed. Once I remove everything from bed and turn around to sleep, I'll hear him giving a big, tired sigh and finally starting to sleep. Usually, 10 min later he's already snoring. Dogs are such loyal creatures - they care for us so much that they synchronize with us completely, it's deeply vired into them.

Our GS didnât seem to care much for sleeping on a bed, she laid claim to a loveseat and that was her spot for almost 13 years. Sometimes she would sleep in the hall outside the bedrooms, some extra protection. I miss that sweet girl so much.

My Springer Spaniel used to curl up in a ball, next to my lower back, about an hour later, I would wake up, literally on the edge of the bed, about to fall out, glance over my shoulder, and yep Springer stretched out, all the way across the bed, experienced that for the best part of 13 years,,and now 15 years later, the bed has never felt, so big, so uncomfortable and so empty.
When I was a kid we had a collie, she would sleep at the foot of my bed but during the night she would progressively take up more and more space. By morning I usually woke up squished up against the wall while she was fully stretched out in the middle of the bed. Good memories.
I had a kitten that did this, I have fallen off my bed once.
My cat does this on a regular basis. Its our secret nightly battle.
Our collie did exactly the same thing with me. Unfortunately the cats liked to sleep on my other side at the top of the bed so I would wake up with my legs crushed against the wall and my head hanging over the edge of the bed!

Snuggles and kisses beats the way my German shepherd used to wake me up.
Dixie wasn't allowed to sleep in bed with me, and she couldn't reach my face to kiss me awake. So she would stand next to my bed and slide her head under the covers to touch her cold, wet nose against my ribs.

As big and ferocious as she looked, Dixie was a big chicken, through and through.
My bedroom is at the back of the house, not far from the back door.
One Saturday morning at about 6 am, I heard someone try to break in through the back door. Dixie, who slept at the foot of my bed, heard it, too, and she raised a ruckus, barking as loud as she could. But she ran to the other end of the house to bark from a safe distance! đ€Ł
She wouldn't go into that part of the house for 2 weeks unless I was with her, and every strange noise brought her immediately to her feet with a single frightened bark each time.

Well, when a dog sleeps with you - it just means they're bonded to you, its one of their ways of showing love and a sense of safety.
While I don't have three dogs sleeping with me - but I have two Malinois who do (always had two, a male and female, since I was little kid), wake up every morning with one (or both) of em leaning against me with all four feet in the air. They don't do what the dogs in this video do either. They sleep next to me till I wake up (they don't get off the bed or move around like these in the vid do). And if they're waking me up its because they need to go out.
And they know when I'm about to go to bed. I take a shower every night before bed, soon as I turn the shower off - they immediately head to their spots on my bed and wait for me to get settled in.

Thereâs nothing worse then when your dog wakes you up too early.
I use to have one German Shepard & remember all the hair from his shedding. You have three...all in your bed wow.
Having a few doggies is the best feeling in the whole world. Enjoy your times together whilst you still are.
It's a miracle you get any sleep at all! This was hilarious!
This is more interesting to watch than any movie or tv series.. i can watch them all day đâ„ïž
That was too stinkin cute!!
I had a GSD and a Plott Hound (both have now passed), but that was literally every night with them. Shepherd would usually be a little more at ease, but heard EVERY little noise and felt it his duty to "inform" me!!! Miss them two, they were wonderful dogs...
Sorry for your loss
They sound amazing. You are lucky to ever had the pleasure of living with them....
đ OH my gosh, that's our house!
We have 2 shepherd mixes and they do the exact same thing.
We're exhausted when we get up to go to work and they sleep all day.
A dogs life đ¶đ¶
They truly an adorable & reliable guards thođ
Imagine being a thief and walking into that bedroom with 3 pairs of eyes staring at you and growling
It's so cute how these dogs are so big they can just jump on the bed but there are steps there đ
What happens if they need to pee or poop
@@danLTa1 omg! Are you really asking that ? What do you think Dogs are? Your perception of Dogs is quite unsettling to me. As puppies they usually need to be let out or they will pee or poop in the house. But They learn of course! They go out before bed then they can hold it until morning! I have a pitbull, he sleeps with me. Never did he pee nor poop in the bed. Why would he?
@@amazoniablue7572 I see. Can they use the bathroom ?
@@danLTa1 I have a dog and she knows when to poop or pee, she never does it inside my house. Dogs learn u know?
@@leaxx4727 yes, they pee outside but do you allow them to use the bathroom?
It's like sleeping with my 2 cats. One is jealous of the other. It's normal to wake up in the middle of the night to the jealous one fighting with the other... right on top of me !đč
Cats............ pisshaw no cats in the world of GSD's unless they are to be tormented and chased.
@@p_campbell if you let your dog torture and chase cats, you are a horrible person and shouldn't have a dog!!! Sicko!
@@sallyire1 The jealous one likes to lay next to me on my pillow and pat me on the face and neck. The only problem is he likes to flex his paws and his claws stab me. He's such a jerk, but he's cute and he knows it. đž
The stairs kill me đ I have those two. But my dogs literally need them đđ what sweet dogs.
Pets have such a long night no wonder theyâre always so happy to see me in the morning
Love that they protect you. Heartwarming. They are gorgeous. Much love to all. Xx
I know that life, 6:am hits and "Hey... it's pee o'clock... wake up"
Mine would tap my chest with her paw, if I didnt get up she pulled the covers down....... đ€Ł
there's probably more hair in that bed than on the floor in a barber shop
Looks like a good time to me. Much better than having little anklebiters that you have to worry about rolling over onto
Watching my dogs take turns guarding outside is so fun. We have 2 great pyrenees and they sectioned off our backyard for themselves to guard together. Always one of them up and around
Dogs really do that ?
@@adamamerica1727 Yes, they do, it's pack behaviour. Same happens with wolves, one or more of them guard while the others sleep, and then they take shifts. It's amazing how they do this without thinking, just pure instinct
They are VERY VERY loyal dogs. I had an Akita/Shepard mix 125lbs boy he was my baby. Loved him until i no longer had him. I miss you Rex with all my heart.
Love it I have 8 dogs on my bed lol ranging from a two pound min Yorkie 2 shitzus a border collie 90 lbs and a havanese 2 ... 85 lbs coon hounds and a bishon poodle
My gsd sleeps on a crib mattress on the floor. Its her favorite spot.
I can relate to that, I have 3 German shepherds.
I average maybe 3 hours of sleep a night, sometimes less.
I think I got more sleep and rest during combat, they're buttheads but they're my kids and I love them.
