Please contact your service provider and have the gas spring (lid support spring) replaced on your Eppendorf. The machine lid should not require lifting with such force as you are having to use. Similarly it should not fall closed when released. A new gas spring will restore proper and safe operation. The lid spring should be viewed as a safety critical, consumable item, like the brake pads on a car. Your machine is unsafe in the condition shown in this video.

No problem. Changing the spring on a 5810 is a straightforward job. So long as there is enough space to allow the lid to be opened past the vertical and so long as the machine can be turned to allow access to the back. Some people prefer to remove the rear panel for easy access though, with practice it is not necessary. You will need a #2 Pozidriv screwdriver, a 13/14mm spanner and a couple of drops of oil to fit s new spring.
Once a new spring is fitted you will see a massive improvement and will realise why I am so concerned for your safety.

I have replaced many of these springs over the years! They are the only real weak point of these machines.

Time is set in minutes only.
If wish to spin a sample for less than a minute, the machine will operate while you press and hold the ‘short’ button. The time elapsed will be displayed in seconds and the machine will stop when you release the ‘short’ button.
