RARE! 1962 Chevrolet CREW CAB factory conversion field find! And 1/2 ton suspension swap!

- I had seen this 1962 Chevy crew cab from a distance but always heard it wasn't for sale. A subscriber got me in touch with the owner and I was able to strike up a deal to get it out of the pasture where it had been rotting into the ground for over 30 years. Although it is very rough it is a factory upfitter crew cab conversion that was done shortly after it was assembled by GM and then likely sold to the United States Air Force after being completed. Since there was no drivetrain and the suspension was very rough I decided to convert it to squarebody GM 1/2 suspension for several reasons. As much as I wanted to take this pickup further, it has been SOLD to a new home! As always, thanks much for watching!

Crew cab! Enough room for duff to pick up some Honeys to cruise with him! If y’all like watching Mortske be sure to tune in to my channel tonight at 6pm! We did a collaboration with a Minneapolis Moline G1000 wheatland!
I can't wait. Monday's are now my favorite day!
A Minn Mo in Oklahoma. That's crazy. Someone brought that down from up north.
Puddin and Duff. Sounds like it could be better than "Beavus and Butthead"
Yeah I thought yall were gonna do dueling datsuns
@@chrisc1553 Mortske would win because of the extra weight in the front seat. TRACTION BABY!!
This is a hidden gem of a youtube channel. I've watched vice grip, thunderhead, junkyard digs, cleetus, whistlin, puddin, roadkill and everyone else from the beginning. And this is one of those channels. Guaranteed.
Much appreciated Jonathan!
A guy knows another guy that’s revives junked out vehicles. 😉
Absolutely! Instant subscribe lol
Watch halfass customs
Completely agree. I watch & subscribe to everyone mentioned!
I love watching Duff having fun with his friends.
Especially when Mortske has it on fast forward.
Morts got the Best can-do attitude on the interwebs. It`s going to be great....
Mortke, that was a very ambitious project, and a ton of work. The engine looked promising at first blush, a shame it shit the bed I hope the new owner rewards you for all the mods you did.
Thanks for the kind words!
Good to see you’re back to working on good old American junk!!
I love this pick-up, my favourite vehicle yet! I hope whoever buys her does her up right, bring back the green paint too, it'll look epic and make a video series of it, doing her up and putting her back together, I will definitely watch every one!
Shame it's not for you and Duff, but keep the epic content coming!
I am in South Africa, there is nothing here to compare to this channel, Duffy is such a good boy hey.
Thank the lord for Mortske and Duff for cheering up a Monday.
@Chaterine 😽 think you are spamming on the wrong channel here love. You keep a knockin but you can’t come in.
I can't decide if it's better or worse now, or if that even matters...
A full tilt resto would be pretty expensive...the patina on this is pretty good.
Agree!
Oh come on Wes!! At least it rolls now!
What's the drill bits and the reamers brands ?
@@kingplumber Norseman, I had to go back and rewatch to catch it.
And watching Duff's Master and friends have fun with him! Thanks for sharing again Guys.
Thanks for the Mortske Monday 🐾 I remember seeing that rig in a previous video. Ive never seen a rig like that in that year. Good luck and thank Chin for the editing work. Take it easy.🐾🍺
Thanks for watching Stu!
You could also use c20/c30 squarebody engine towers. They are shorter and almost mount up perfectly. It's what I used on my 68. Works like a charms. Keep up the good content
67 on up trucks have taller frames
That’s what I used in my 63 C10.
"That's a wrap, was quite the crack, $ six thousand out the door, and never look'en back !
I was cursing out those shock mounts on your behalf while the bumper music was playing,,, had you covered man ! Great channel, thumbs up !
Thanks Dan!
Gotta love a guy who won't think twice about using a chair with casters for a step stool.
As the owner of a 60 C10.. loving this crew cab build...
Oh yeah! Monday morning goodness
Another good show there Mortske and Duffinator! I think the moral to this video would have to be think twice, measure twice and don't get your holes mixed up LOL. No offense Greta. I can't decide if that truck would be better with old Betty blue or Greta green either way it's a cool project. If I were doing it though I would have probably put it up on about 6 in lift kit with 44-in gumbo mudders and a fire breathing big block under the hood. One last note. I think the Duffmeister deserves a treat sponsor. I would do it myself but I'm so broke I can't pay attention LOL. I don't know if you're going to name that one Mortske but the Motley Crew Cab would be what I would name it. Can't wait to see the showdown between you and Puddin! I'm sure we're all going to laugh our butts off ! Damn it's hard to keep what you say PG-13 isn't it Mortske? 👍🐻🇺🇸🇨🇱
Duff said put that thing on the trailer and let’s go!
Good Mullet Mortske Monday morning to y'all!
Starting my vacation off right with a new mortske video! Nice
Enjoy!
Good find Mort. Whoever the subscriber was that put you in touch with the previous owner is cool in my book. I recall the USAF has a base near a city in your state called Minot where B-52s are based out of so that's where the truck could have been earlier in it's life.
Grand Forks has one too I believe.
@@MortskeRepair That's A Gorgeous Truck, Stepside Crew Cab Are Rare. All Of My Trucks Are Flareside Too !!!!
As a newer Burban owner (Heh, newer! Mine's 2 months from qualifying for Wi collector plates) if that square body were a little less ruined I'd feel bad seeing it chopped up.
Same here. I HATE seeing any square body parted out, but that one was a mess.
Mortske is by far my favorite car and truck channel. This dude is hilarious.
Thanks much Dan!
be a good place for that LS you have hangin around hell yes
Damn Mortske, shame about that 3-2-7, oh well can’t win em’ all I don’t reckon. But I’m sure you’ll do something about a engine for the old refurbished crew cab Chevy and can’t wait to see the finished project bud! Keep on keeping on and keep on rocking 🤘
The Use To Put Those Railroad Tires On Them Crew Cabs. Hey Duff
Hyrail, and they suck. They’re not fun.
Duff reminds me of my now deaf and blind 15y/o Lab Luna when she was young. Bought the Duff shirt because of that!
I usta be a fan of the other Guy up North, but once the big TV appearances started happening, Ive found you and Puddin’-Tang and are now my go-to shows with my young son.
Thanks for your purchase Dan!
You’re welcome “Mort”(lol) and Duff! Thank you for the content👊
You smashed the spider with your hat and he hit the ground and just walked off while shooting the finger. One bad spider! Daaaaaaang!
Though sonofagun!
I'm so freaking happy mortske I been waiting for this video I love to Crew Cab trucks I want to own one day
All you need is $6000usd and this 'gem' could be yours.....................
@@marksbikeexports5123yeah true but who has that kind of cash lying around
@@djfurman100 .........at a guess, the ones of us that don't piss away 6k on shit like this.
Would have loved to have a 4wd version of this for hunting this weekend… pew pew pew, get some!
Me too!
Good Morning, enjoyed the video, rare truck for sure,, don't think I've seen one before like it.... always like seeing the engine tear downs, never done one myself... but have always wanted to do a tear down to feel the process 1st hand.
Hope you have a nice day, look forward to your next video. 🍻
I'm real good at taking stuff apart! PUtting it back together, not so much!
I think o' Duff could smell that this one was not gonna go for a ride !! Too bad about the block. Always like to see the resurrection. That is some creative fabrication to say the least!! Another great Mortske Monday! Thanks as always and keep 'em coming!
You're very welcome Gary!
Been waiting for this one!
Swap in the pb. Cylinder
LET'S GO BRANDON
hell yeah! Trump Train!
Is this a political channel?
As bad as you think Biden is just think, he beat tRump
You got that right!! LET'S GO BIDEN!!!!
@@christopherc1976 covid under control for the most part, the economy doing much better, not having a self serving egotistical maniac in charge and the republikkan party looking like fools daily? Yeah. That’s much better actually.
That 50s model caught my attention!!!
I feel Sorry for anyone who would have to rebuild a truck so far gone as this one. I recently rebuilt a 1957 chev 1 ton , and after replacing the cab ect... 3 donor trucks, parts from four old doors,I finally was ready to start body work . It took me and a friend 1 and a half years to complete. It Has a grafted on frame welded on right behind the shock mounts from a 1974 chev 3/4 ton , rotors from a 1988 1 ton PU, and a 1978 differential . Also, I think all 302 Blocks had DZ stamped on the engine pad. Great Video guys!, reminds me of days gone by.
This is going to be a ton of work can’t wait to see the progress and you get this rolling on the road again! That trucks pretty cool way before my time , question is can she do donuts?
he should swap in a complete LS 1 carbed with a flareside bed...this on deserves a faux paint jib
Another great video man! I'd put an old massey ferguson engine in there and and an old granny low 4 speed lol
Oh boy
When I was in auto class at the local community college we had a Suburban in the brown and tan flavor, with tan interior. Thing was like brand new. Mind you, this was 20 years ago now, but we put a Jasper crate motor in it. We took that beast down the dirt road around the college and broke her in properly 😁
Sweet rig!
73 IH travell-all green. International Harvester . V8 345ci thru 392ci. All types diff mills for that I think? Uncle Bob used his to tow his gar wood boats with his IH. Great channel thank you
Thanks for watching Kevin!
Aww hell yeah! I'd almost forgotten it was Mortske Monday with all the shenanigans that's been happening!
Give Duffers a huge pat from me.. as long as he's not been rolling in deer poop again that is 🤣
You know he is!
Man you keep doing these morning uploads I'm not going to have a job anymore cuz I'm going to keep being late LMFAO
Boy you ain't kidding about those springs being ruffer than old Wendy Mattress back , that sucker would have no give !! But Puddin may need some for that blur mini truck hauler he has ! Lol
Great video teaches while making you laugh. The best part is he show anyone can do this without big fancy tools. Keep up the great work awsome video as always.
Great video. I look forward to seeing what u do with it.
It would be cool to see you finish it. Just stick a working engine in it and finish it up.
What if ya throw that 6 liter ls in the ole cowboy limo , thats a very unique 62. I can see a lot of customization potential.
Hot Damn! Got the crewy up. And just after the Minni-Mo. This week is looking good!
One can tell you’ve been around the block a time or two Mortske. You really know your stuff bro. Changed out the front and rear ends like nothing. Too bad about the engine. Great video sir. Big Al.
Thanks much Al!
Been waiting for this! Should be a gooder!
NOt bad for some field junk!
Awesome job dude! I have a question! I thought you could take the chevy suburban body off of it's frame and take the old truck off of it's frame and do a frame swap? Would that be easier? Maybe more work? If the one ton is 133 inches wheel base? I think the suburban is 129.5 if I remember correctly? Just curious! Have a good one!
Then you gotta remake all your body mounts and your wheelbase is off
Like it Dude, just remember that I'm a 62 year old, not that it matters. I Dig It. Presently working on a mint 1967 Jeepster Commander for some cool friends of mine.
Good stuff!
Really enjoyed this one and your get together with Puddin and his Dad. Epic, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it Anthony!
Came here looking for Nissan versus Datsun action, found old Chevy action. Left satisfied.
Stay tuned!!
Boy oh boy that’s the most help you’ve had in a while cool good job
Thanks for sharing Mortske, have a great day.
Thanks, you too!
You are making things more interesting here lately , please keep it going. Thanks for sharing them with us. Nuff said!
Thanks, will do!
Good video of how to take two to one. And all the good spare parts. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week Mortske 👍
You bet!
I wake up, i have cereal, i watch Mortske before work. Paradise? I thought so!
Depends... what kinda or cereal?
How about using the Suburban frame under the 62 cab ? Whoops too late !
Thank you for saving this piece of History
I agree David!
@@THROTTLEPOWER I wish he could done a full restore on this truck but I'm just happy that he's just a saving and trying to get up and running
@@djfurman100 Yep
Thanks for the PEX tip on the door latch post. I've been disappointed for years and now it's almost like a new truck. Best of all, stops the wife from complaining and slamming the door.
It's life changing!
YW is a 1966 327/185 from a C60, M60 or S60 truck. Your block was cast on January 27th, 1966 and the engine was assembled on January 29th at the Flint, Michigan
Yup!
Best part of a Monday watching Mortske and duff dog!!
I had the same jack puke it’s guts out. Thankfully it happened the week I bought it and I brought it back and paid $15 more to get the 3 ton. It’s a lot heavier but has done everything I’ve thrown at at.
Lucky!
Love the door jack action ha
Learned to drive my dad's 62 Chevy 3/4 ton three on the tree non-power steering. What a handful for a 15 year old.
The Elf+Duff+Beer+old Chevy trucks = Great Episode! 👍
Like what you did with regular tools and alot of work ! Just goes to show you don't need hi Tec tools. Hi duff dog stay safe and healthy 😀🍩🍪
Thanks Joseph!
Great video thank you mortske and duff 👍🏻
When you install the 1983 Chevy cross-member square body. Then you did put in the lower mounts. The mount was too high over the longitude chassis rail of the 1962 Chevy crew-cab truck. Here - some suggestion is to add in the bar as a spacer between the mount and the chassis. Then drill two holes thru the bar spacer. Then heavy duty rail spacer will be tighten with two bolts and two nuts plus extra bolts and hex nuts on other side where the mount (car engine cradle) is. You did super job and on film.
That’s exactly how I do them
The crew cab reminds me of a Bell Telephone linemen's truck.
Great channel! I’d love to spend a week rebuilding an old square body and getting it back on the road. As a truck driver(mainly in the south) you hardly ever see anything older than a mid 90’es. My DD is an 03’ F150 4.2 4x4 but I’d love an old F250. If I lived closer I’d probably buy one of your old trucks.
Dammit another CZcamsr that I must watch. Already hooked. Piano hinges are horrible. Bigger project than most might tackle, can't wait to see her finished. stop'it!! I'm hooked.
Thanks for watching Joseph!
I would love to turn that into a coffee table clean it up better than a boat anchor ⚓ 😀
My first time watching someone work on something that seriously should be on the way to the crusher. It was surprisingly gratifying. You must’ve ran out of beer. Your friends left. Thanks for sharing.
👊😎👍. 👉🇺🇸👈
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Mortske & Puddins collaboration is what I want to see.
Next week!
Work’s been nuts this year, I miss being able to watch these videos!
Glad to have you back!
I would have laughed so hard if you fell off that green chair when you had that pourpose built step right there lol
We look at it& amagine what it would like fully restored!!
Awesome video, always look forward to Mondays now. Best to you and Duff 👍
Thanks much!
I got super excited when I saw that hood ornament thinking the crew would get a 6.2 but oh well. That crew is awesome, a rather rare gem.
Oh no! Not a six duece!
Cool looking old crude cab. Front end rear end swap, smooth Keith stoned. Motor home belly scrubs free just drive by Mort's place.
A quick glance at the back of the crank with the flywheel/flexplate off will tell ya if it's a 350 or 327. Great episode!
327 blocks are hard to come by now. That block could be salvaged with a sleeve. Of course the pooch in the side of the pan might indicate a thrown rod Dropping the pan would reveal the truth .
Hate to see it cut up but love to see what it's saving
What a cool truck! I'm glad you got it in the shop to do some work on it. Initially, I thought it might be a good 20 footer but after seeing this, only Ray Charles would think that thing looks good. Kidding of course because it is a cool looking and unique truck. I hope you or someone else loves this truck enough to get it back on the road. Just don't lose the shop over this one!
I'll take that Grain belt beer... Reminds me of my Northern Minnesota days
Good stuff!
Watched this one again with my dad. We’re working on his 66 C10. I think this is something we can tackle. He’s got all the body work done and some panels painted. He’s doing all the painting his self. The body fortunately is almost flawless. We’re having the original 250 rebuilt but I’m gonna put in a modern transmission. Trying to find a 200 4r. That would be ideal.
Sounds like a cool ride!
45 degrees, bright moon, a sixxer of heavy Hamm, and a hot tub set at 103 with Mortske on the Lube Tube....that's a good Monday night.
Oh my, setting the mood!
Love the Suzanne Somers Thigh Master action with the floor jack! LOL! Mortske Master...patent pending.
You like that joe?!? Keeps me in fighting shape!
We all tune in to see how Duff has been doing...bonus is the junk Mortske drags home. Thanks for sharing....because sharing is caring.
Duff appreciates it!
The Forestry service here used to convert those trucks to 4 doors back in the day. Seen a handful of them in my life, from what I recall a couple companies did the conversions on these. This would be really cool to get restored. Needs a lot of love
Yeah, I presume a conversion company did this one for the Air Force.
Wish I lived closer that way would love that steering column
Good to see someone putting this truck back on the road...
Very good friend of the family (I still call him Uncle Phil) was an engineer for Union Pacific RR and bought one of their left over Crew Trucks like this. Come to find out they made them for the Rail Roads as well as the Military. But his is a 3 door, not the 4 door. Been years since I seen that truck, but is does still have the old manual "rail riders" that drop down so they could drive it on the train tracks. Good vid, and good find.
Awesome!
I’m a Ford guy but even I can admit that crew cab is glorious!!!
See welds at 2:07...
Fascinating and funny thanks for making Monday interesting
I hope you keep it and find an engine and get it going. This could be a really cool truck. Don’t get rid of it!!
Looks like you are adding about 100-200 subs a day. I hope the growth continues!
I hope so!
Oh yeah, I've been waiting on this one
Hey Mortske, Got my Duff Tee shirt. Cool. YW is a 66 327/185 horse out of a C60 truck. The relieved pistons are a give away it's 60's. The 70's went with dished pistons for smog issues. I have a 1969 300 horse 350 with the same pistons. Really enjoyed this video. I was unaware those front ends could be swapped like that. Keep up the good work. Thanks
Thanks for your purchase Bob!
