I can relate to Fern. She had every right to stop her dad from killing Wilbur. You can't just kill a poor, helpless, little runt just because it may seem like trouble.
Some trivia: Pamela Ferdin,who voiced Fern here,had also voiced Lucy in A boy named Charlie Brown,which came out four years before this(1969,and the year I was born!),and Avery,Fern's brother,was voiced by none other than the late Danny Bonaduce(Danny Partridge on the Partridge Family,which was still in production at the time,of course.)
It still breaks my heart to notice Wilbur’s mom not reacting to his helpless squealing while he tried to nurse off of her. I understand most animal mothers are really exhausted after giving birth, but I can’t stand the idea of a mother not reacting to her baby’s crying.😔
Yep Speaking of broken hearts, I have watched a scene from The Princess Diaries (2001) which made Helen Thermopolis very upset about what happened at the beach earlier (in a mother's eye), causing Amelia "Mia" Thermopolis (her 16 year old girl) to cry so badly (similar to Lori and Jess Aarons) Fern: Control myself? Especially when chances are the little runt will grow big and strong. I know from personal experience. It just takes a little extra TLC than the rest.
