Bad part about that is you have to call before you dig even to plant a tree and the owners of that line that were plowed in probably has a distance stipulation and their eminent domain document when it was condemned for plowing in their line. You remember that government Passage? The suffering of the few for the greater good of the masses. Or something like that was wrote in Hitler's Mein Kampf!

I was raised to be respectful of other people’s property. The rule was, and continues to be, if you borrow an item and break it, you either fix it completely or you replace it. I’m impressed by your patience with the person that broke your farm implement and failed to repair it. I’m also impressed by the fact that your family is able to assess every obstacle thrown at you and come up with working solutions.

Your very first posted video on this channel was posted on August 12th, 2011. A decade ago. If you're ever bored, what you ought to do is play the first video on your tv in the break room and film you guys reacting to the very start of your channel. Seeing what you think of what you shot, what you were saying, what you were thinking, and how things have changed with the farm and your channel as a whole. You've been at this a decade. Just a little welding tip, before you slide the 3 1/2" tubing inside the 4" torch (or drill) some 1" holes in a random pattern on all four sides of the outer tubing. Then plug weld the outer to the inner. Plug welds are super strong and with your wire welder super fast.

NO!! Thank YOU for allowing ME to participate in your day!! I enjoy it VERY much, and I learn a lot each time. I feel the one, most critical asset of a farmer (and so the whole country/world) is the farmer's willingness to DO what ever is necessary to make it work!! I marvel at all farmers do, and how well they do it!! I am a huge fan of jury rigging things to MAKE them work!! Senseless to just throw stuff away. Being just under, and OVER achiever, is just about perfect!! I usually recommend videos like this to my friends who have NO idea where all this stuff originates, or how it got to the store!! I try to keep my recommendations to people who can and will appreciate just what is going on here.
Thanks for taking us all along with you. I also have some semblance of what it takes to imagine, set up, take, and finally edit all that footage to get a fine finished product like this and all your videos. It is quite obvious that farmers and ranchers must be jacks of all trades. I see your family successfully tackle all manner of problems and projects that go beyond seeding and harvesting. I assume it would be nigh impossible to afford the cost of running the farm, if all mechanical and other breakdowns which present themselves, had to repaired by outside companies. Your family are amazingly creative and capable when these problems arise, and you get them solved in short order. I cannot believe how calm and respectful you remained when telling us about someone borrowing, breaking, and returning unrepaired, an expensive piece of essential equipment. God bless you all.

One other way to tell if the wheat straw is dry enough is to watch how the straw settles coming out of the straw chopper. Back in the day my uncle would say that if it disappears into the stubble it is dry, if it 'floats' on top of the stubble, it is damp. But here in eastern ND, I don't recall that we've had a had such a drought as you are having. It was dry this year, but there was enough subsoil moisture to result in pretty good yields.

Seeing the issue with the packer reminds me of an old saying. "Never be a borrower be or a lender be". It's unfortunate but, your experience with those that borrowed from you, never fixed what they should have done when they first said they would.
Tis why I prefer to use a stick welder when outside, wire welders really are designed to be used indoors unless using flux core wire. I know naysayers may disagree but, wind blows the "gas" away which is what makes a weld look like crap.
Actually, thank you for sharing your videos. Even us retired farmers live and reminisce through your videos. Cheers :)

For the tube inner sleeve I would pierce holes along the outer about every 6 inches and plug weld through the two tubes. Joining them together this way the ends of the inner tube can not shift and put load on the outer tube as the whole arm flexes. Thanks for all the videos and keep doing great work!

I was in the infantry in Alaska at the end of the 'Nam eta. We had a field problem in Fairbanks and had to fly up from Elmendorf AFB outside of Anchorage. At least 6 hours in the C130s. So in their military intelligence mode, the Air Force took their oldest C130 airframes and put them in Alaska, with you guessed it, the worst flying conditions of all US airbases.
The FIRST time we took off, we were about 30 seconds airborne when a right wing engine caught on fire.
The SECOND time we took off we were about 2 minutes airborne when the same engine caught on fire. The 3rd time - same damb plane - we managed to land at Eielson AFB outside Fairbanks so we could go play bang-bang at an actual temperature of 67° below zero. When the Huey's picked us up a couple days later, their prop blast was supposed to put the wind chill around 200° below zero. But that's military information, so take it with a lot of salt, lol.

When I worked at the feedlot by Picture Butt AB, we ha a rotor in the mix wagon split in two. The old Mr. Fix-it sleeved it and welded back together but he first punched some holes in the old one, then put the sleeve and welded the holes closed. But your just pulling the tool where the rotor was transferring force to the beeaters. It never broke again while I was there. Your fix should be golden! 👍👍

Trust me I feel the same way and there's been some stuff I've lent people or friends and it's come back messed up and they didn't do anything but just give it back. So I just stopped lending them stuff and helping them. I normally help people, but sometimes it's like I don't have an unlimited checkbook here or the time sometimes to fix it. If you dont respect or try,its like well forget it. You can tell in your voice you're not overly thrilled.

Flux Core MIG wire works in windy conditions. It lays down a slag layer just like stick welding and has to to be chipped off but works a lot better in the great outdoors. Especially since the trees for a windbreak seem to be a little sparse and getting sparser. :(
I grew up in a farming community (Indiana) and lived on a farm when much younger. I can appreciate your trials and tribulations and applaud you for your strength. Scot I really think that Nick and your dad should spring and get you an Ironworker for your shop. Uni Hydro and Scotsman are the 2 best makes. Uni Hydro is built 15 miles from me. I would suggest a 80 ton machine. But get what you can afford. Just remember that to punch, shear, and bend thicker material takes power and pressure. Just a thought for you guys. Good luck in your harvest.
