I got the 6a last year phone still runs smooth like it did out the box I mean the display is nice and the Google software is brilliant so glad I went for it,but obviously if you are going for one of these phones get the 7a but can't go wrong with either, the pixel experience is fantastic and it's a phone brand I'm sticking with for the next phone aswell ❤❤

  • @curiousabout1

I got the 6a when it was released in the US, I don't feel any pressing need to get the 7a yet but probably will when they do the next major price drop. I am kind of really wanting that camera, but I've loved the one it has since the 4a which was my first Pixel. The most important factor concerning the camera for me is the pixels available to work with since I always edit from RAW anyway. I've been able to create some pretty excellent images already, but having a bit more breathing room to zoom would be nice. Speaking of, the 4a is still above and beyond the ideal form factor for me. That size is so damn user friendly for one handed operation and pocketability, I was sorely disappointed that they didn't continue to use it for the "a" series. Maybe in the future they'll revisit that. Otherwise, I adore the interface of the Pixels as well, rely quite heavily on the assistant, and appreciate beyond words the call screening that automatically stops spam on a daily basis - multiple times a day!

The 7a has upgraded camera's , face unlock, 90 hertz, higher brighness, wireless charging, 8 gigs of ram instead of 6, upgraded processor and a extra year of software updates because it newer. So I would say yes it's 43 percent better. That's a lot of new features the 6a does't have. 499 is still cheap. I did have issues with my brightness flickering tho even with auto brightness off. And I didn't really like the colors the display gave. But camera, feel in hand, processing speed, display size and resolution, battery was really good. I recommend it if you can get it for under $250 in new like condition.

    Great side by side comparison.
I was on Pixel 3a XL until last Autumn when random screen freezes really started to get on my nerves, so went for a Pixel 6a during Black Friday deals.
I still have my Pixel 3a and it works ok if I need a back up (though long unsupported with updates/security) and need to find a way to transfer the last few months photos across to the 3a 😉
My Dad bought the standard Pixel 3a at the same time I bought the 3a XL and as he doesn't use his phone as much as me, he's noticed the battery life is now getting quite bad so asked for my advice...
Currently (June '23) in the UK the Pixel 7a is £449, but there are some retailers selling the 6a at £299.
So for £150 difference it's a tough call...
The 7a would get another year of security and patches over the 6a which could almost be worth the extra £150 along with a slightly better camera.
For my dad's needs, he wouldn't notice upping the 60-90hz refresh rate, so might extend the battery life over the 6a which I've noticed is MUCH worse than I remember the 3a was back in it's younger days!

You made comparison to the Samsung and the Apple phones but didn't give price differences. Sure both the others had longer updates periods but if their costs were 300 or more, thats a point best made.
Personally I'm an audiofile, and speaker quality and loudness mean a lot to me. Why Pixel got away from front facing stereo speakers, I'll never know. It was kinda the trademark for many years. I'm still using my 3xl, because of the speaker position and screen quality etc. Still gives me about 5 hours screen on time, without using energy saver mode. I can easy go 3 days on just call use in standby mode. But if I watch a movie or utube heavily on I have to change it daily. But honestly, never found too many phones that battery life is that much better when used heavy.
If I trade up and stick with Pixel, I'll shoot for the 7pro. I've priced them as low as 500 in either an open box from eBay or renewed through Amazon. Though still not happy with a bottom firing speaker. I may go to a Sony. They have front stereo speakers. But their always outta my budget. I personally don't think any phone should cost more than 600 new. When you can buy a good laptop for the price of a phone, something is wrong. Thanks for a thorough review.

@@DionMedia Thanks for the kind words. Just venting. But my thoughts on prices and especially those front facing stereo speakers 😹, are true. Phones are meant to be phones first. With good volume, connectivity and call quality. Seems camera quality and features has overtaken the priority. And manufactures hear that and spend all their time on fancy camera features first and overlook the other. So we end up with dropped calls, expensive phone plans, including dropped calls and speakers that u can't hear.
Remember the old flip phones? Speakers you could hear 15 ft away.
Anyway ya did a good review. I just put in my 2 cents 😂

Had 2 phones for about 3 years with 90Hz screen update... before that it was always (near 60 at least :-), did I see a difference... nope... but sure it was a stat like everything else... Had a couple of Nexus tablets and I loved them (even though the first one was a dud after just a year.... Nexus 7 2012) so I wanted try another Google "thing", Pixel 6a was pretty cheap... tried it and it was so much better in every way.... not saying 7a is bad in any way... but that 60 vs 90 Hz is just a stat... probably mostly a placebostat... I still like 24 FPS movies way more then 50/60 Hz ones.. so it might be me.... but scrolling can stutter in 240 Hz and you would hate it... but can be if you program it correctly be buttery smooth in 24 Hz and you would love it... screen update frequency is not everything....

Overall the 7A is better by the 6A but not by a long shot. The money you are saving when you buy a 6A can buy you a good case and a screen protector so the durability becomes better and the 7A's big difference is the 90hz refresh rate which in most cases does not effect anything but your battery life, so in order to make the 7A worth the extra money must require you to be a busy person and a person who looks at every single thing while using your phone, but in everyday use I dont see much difference so in my opinion the 6A is better but if you want to squeeze everything from your budget the 7A is better in that department. In the end it comes down to you whether you want it or not.
