Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. They have an awesome lead vocalist too., most of their songs have vocals.
Check out "Hate?" live to see them in front of an audience with Saiki on vocals. Best wishes from the UK.

Band-Maid is a rock group that will surprise you with the width and breadth of their music. They refuse to stick to one genre and often blend genre, covering pop, prog, punk, classic rock, metal, speed-metal, jazz, rap, folk-metal, and even hints of Broadway. Try their "Giovanni", it will warp your mind. Metal-heads love their frenzied rockers while pop fans love their gentle ballads. They are prolific writers and have produced a huge catalog from which they can put together set lists for their concerts, which they call Okyu-ji (Servings). They are brilliant live performers who understand how to engage with their audience. Do not miss an opportunity to see them live. They are of that minority of bands that can rearrange their songs for live acoustic performances. Instrumentally, the core of Band-Maid is the power trio of Akane (drums), Misa (bass), and Kanami (guitar), who does the bulk of their composition work. Rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Kobato Miku writes the majority of Band-Maid's lyrics, although lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi also writes a fair number of their lyrics.

Welcome to Band Maid. These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (Mincho) lead guitar, Akana (A-chan; Gorilla) on drums and Misa (the barefoot assassin) on bass. Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound. And the last one Miku is our little pigeon 🕊: Pure energy, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies with Saiki, some wonderful lead vocal songs and these days very good on rhythm guitar ... she wasn't able to play the guitar in 2013 when she founded the band.
I don't know of any other band where the fans' top song lists differ as much as Band Maid. This is just a (quite) random selection of songs:
Special live: Freedom (Live), Play (Live), ...
Hard rock: Moratorium (Live at Zepp), Rinne (MV), Dice (MV), ...
Varied songs: Corallium (Live at Shibuya), Influencer (MV), ...
Very chatchy chorus: Choose me (MV), Alone (MV), ...
Ballads: About Us (MV), Daydreaming (MV), ...
Instrumentals: From now on (MV), Onset (Live), ...
Miku songs: Sayonakidory (also acoustic), Beauty and the Beast (sadly no good video), ...
And finally a very special live performance: Manners/Blackhole (Official Online Live)🍌
If you want to start at the beginning of their carreer (2013-2017): Thrill (MV, their first video), Real Existence (second video), Alone (MV, first own composition), Freedom(best LIVE performance), Choose Me, Play (LIVE!), ...
    Have fun... Po

Welcome, Jone. You are embarking on (along with many others - nearly 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: czcams.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/video.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): czcams.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/video.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. czcams.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:

And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:

If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo
 The Maids SOLD OUT 2023 US & Mexico tour wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed live four times with this MV quality in Japan and dropped my jaw four times 😲. I believe so did many of American audience in their recent three US tours.
Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Welcome, Jone! First of all, as a classical music fan, gotta say: I loved your interpretations of Bach, Piazolla, Ponce, and the like. Kanami, lead guitarist of Band-Maid and main composer, started out in the classical music world on piano and only later in life picked up a guitar (and then she really took to it). Band-Maid's music is structured and melodic, but contrapuntally interesting and rhythmically unique. They're not afraid to mix 'n' match styles either. Oh, and they have a fantastic lead singer. If you like that combination, keep it going with just about any song. Given you're background, maybe Hate? or YOLO or Wonderland next, but it almost doesn't matter.

band maid is one of the best rock bands, they do mainly hard rock but range from groove and punk rock to some metal but mostly hard rock. Pretty much every song they do is great to even better than great, especially live since they play live as well as you just heard. They have a few instrumentals because they do 22 song concerts and give their lead singer a break in the middle, (lead singer was not in this video). This song and most of them for the last 7 years or so are written by them. The lead guitarist does the music, the rhythm guitarist and band leader writes the lyrics. Watch more, suggest any of the live videos first. They also did a live streamed concert a couple of years ago where they did 14 of their songs all acoustic, and yeah they managed to turn hard rock songs into acoustic ones which sound great.

Misa switched to 5-string (ETA > B-string below the bottom E of a 4-string) maybe 8-9 years ago so she can use the same bass for entire gigs to play songs in concert tune or E flat, or when Kanami is in drop-D (like a lot of hard rock / metal bands they use the latter two quite a bit). ETA 2 >> she's fastidious about keeping her bass in tune, it's one of the reasons they always sound so good live.

Just don't take home the impression that this is an instrumental only band. Kind of like Rush, it's really only a small facet of who they are. Eight albums and 125+ tracks, but just a handful of instrumental tracks. Most of it includes vocals.

You just listened to the best rock band on the planet. Progressive? Yes. Punk? Yes. Classic Rock? Yes. They can do it all. And their lead and back up vocals are the best around. Try Moratorium or Take me Higher or ……. Just pick. You can not go wrong.

Please do check out Asterism and Sokoninaru. Even if you don't post any reaction videos, they are worth getting to know.

BAND-MAID is mostly a hard rock band, and mostly they are not instrumental.
One of their best is the official live version of Hate.
The little older standard to listen to is the official live of Domination.

Band Maid has about 120 songs, and this is one of two that have no vocals. So, you heard half the band. Anyway, this band is always best heard live, and they are spectacular live. I suggest the live cuts of Play, Freedom, Hate, Daydreaming, Domination and the duel cut of Manners with Black Hole.

Welcome to the pigeon hole! Now that you've been introduced to BM, you should know, that from now on, every new BM song you will listen to, will be your favorite. Oh and since you mentioned Polyphia, may I suggest you listen to Sokoninaru with the music video for their song "Tenohira De Odoru" after that you'll be saying "Poly who?"

You’ve only seen 80% of the band. Don’t pigeon-hole them as Prog. Just wait until you hear them sing. Here’s and oldie, but a goodie: DOMINATION (live, 2021) - czcams.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/video.htmlsi=oApi8SI4eU7Rq0nS
The band you referenced at the beginning is BABYMETAL, an Idol trio backed by a Death Metal five-piece.

Band-Maid carries the torch for all-female J-rock with Kanami as a top-tier guitarist. For the undisputed guitar duo on the planet, Lovebites, another all-female J- metal band, is a must-watch: czcams.com/video/m3uGjp-P7DI/video.htmlsi=bUIZClatX6EoTvgq
