Back in 2004, Jaguar F1 was up against the ropes with a losing record and a parent company running out of patience. So the team hatched a plan make some noise-to promote the heist movie Ocean's 12, it attached two real (and uninsured) $250K diamonds to the nose of its cars and ran them in the Monaco Grand Prix.
If that sounds risky... you're right. Just six corners into the race, Jaguar's rookie driver Christian Klien crashed. And when track workers pulled his car out of the barriers, the diamond was gone, never to be seen again.
So what really happened? Did a lucky fan walk away with an incredible souvenir, or was the whole thing a setup for a real-life Ocean's-style heist?

what a coincidence! i once found a diamond on the street in Monaco!
they’re like cigarette butts over there
Personally I think they swapped it for a replica as a stunt. No chance insurance would ever let it happen. The movies are about heists they did this on purpose for viral PR marketing. They did a good job because its still being talked about today
Done on purpose by someone on the inside lol
Charles Leclerc's karting career started the very next year 🤔🤔🤔
Wouldn't surprise me if it was an inside job. That was the going theory among a lot of F1 fans at the time, including myself.
(if so) it wouldn't be the last time the Milton Keynes team was involved in a heist of epic proportions.
There was a corner worker who had a nice deposit into his retirement account.
Didn’t a similar event occur with a diamond decorated helmet that Kimi wore one year at Monaco?
Jaguar and Ford did produce the AWD X-Type around this time. They should've rallied that beast. Maybe not in the WRC but that would've been a real hoot on the regional rally scene..
Just crazy story, proper movie script 😂😂😂
This was viral marketing.
The team is Jag-u-are nt Jag-wah.
not on this side of the pond!

I can't help that, but that's what they are called. Should we revert to calling Dion Warwick by the English pronunciation of her last name or respect her wishes and call her War-wick?
@@thechumpsbeendumped.7797 That IS how you pronounce Warwick. Aren't regional accents fun? Lighten up, Francis.

And that IS how the company that was founded in britain pronounce their name. Jag-u-are it’s always been and will always be.
@@thechumpsbeendumped.7797 I don't care where they were founded or how they pronounce it. In the US, it's Jag-wire. Get over it.
