For catcher, keep your eye on Tucker Barnhart. The Reds have an option on him for next year at $7.5 million. If they decline it, the Yankees should grab him. His left handed bat balances the lineup, and he's a two time Gold Glove winner.

Yankees just need a more versatile lineup. The team played very well with Greg Allen. You only really need 1 or 2 guys like that because you don't want to get rid of the muscle on this Yankees offense. Boone managed the offense differently with Allen too and it worked so I think if the Yankees did more small ball plays while keeping most of the homeruns they're gonna hit, they can be a world series contender again

I don't think San Francisco is going to trade Marte unless they receive a big haul for him. Chapy is inconsistent as the closer. To many walks and HR's, he should be gone. Keep Sanchez and drop him in the order like the 7th or 8th hole where he'll have less pressure. I say bring up some of the Rookie's from this yr like Greg Allen, Velasquez those kids have speed. Enough of the HR or strike out crap, we need to start playing fundamental baseball. And yes we do need a #2 pitcher behind Cole. Duke - Was a catcher from little league thru college and was always trained to sit the Yogi Berra style when no one is on base and use this same style when men are on base to give your signs then hop to the semi squat style. Both styles allow you to frame pitches equally, but the semi squat style allows you to get rid of the ball quicker on a steal attempts. I agree with Tucker Barnhart instead of Sanchez. He drove me crazy with his leg extension which is an automatic risk for allowing passed balls. Yogi, Thurman Munson and Elston Howard were always my favorites.

List looks decent somewhat. I wouldn’t worry about Britton and Chapman. They are both on the final year of their contracts. Sanchez has always been a paycheck player. He has said in the past that he doesn’t enjoy playing and doesn’t care for the game much. 2022 will be his contract year. Remember how he played when he first came up and he wanted to stay up? He was a monster. Expect that kind of play next year. He wants a $100+ million contract. Hopefully Cashman isn’t dumb enough to give it to him. Severino will be healthy next year. He will easily hold down the #2 spot. Another year marred with injuries and he knows he will be cast off like Greg Bird. They should sign a veteran to a short contract for depth. Matt Boyd would be my choice. They do need to sign Rizzo to a 3 year $56m contract with an option year. Then sign a placeholder for SS. They have several talented prospects that are near ready. Why give $25m+ to a player that won’t be needed in 2023? Galvis, Brad Miller, Asdrubal Cabrera or Simmons would be perfect. The only big name SS they should have chased was Baez. They could have put him all over the diamond. Jorge Soler would be a good cheap choice for a bench bat OF depth signing.

Great video as always. Here is my take.
    1) Do not think Rizzo is gonna be worth his market value. I prefer moving DJ back to 1B as he is under contract and to keep him fresh as he ages. Torres at 2B and Urshela at 3B full-time.
    2) Seager is a must-get. Finally gives us a SS and a lefty .300 hitter we have not had since Robinson Cano.
    3) Ketel Marte would be awesome. Fits the team perfectly as another contact-first guy. The cost will be crazy as it should be. I like the idea of Starling Marte too, but if we stand pat with Hicks, we need a better insurance policy than a 50-year-old Brett Gardner.
    4) Just don't see us shelling out for pitching. Gausman would be cool, but I think Kluber or a Kluber-type pitcher on a one or two-year deal is more realistic.
    5) Would love to move Britton. Ottavino-like move. I am okay with Chapman for next season.
    6) Let Gary go. Need a new face back there. A defense-first catcher that can hit .200. Do not need more power in my opinion. I would call the Dodgers about Austin Barnes.
    7) I would try to bring in one more reliever via FA or trade.
We are not as far away as everyone thinks. It may seem like a lot of moves, but it really isn't.

This ought to tick a nerve:
Max Scherzer on why he signed up with the Mets:
Cohen “looks at this as he wants to win a championship, and he’s going to do whatever it takes to win,” said Scherzer, the eight-time All-Star and 2019 World Series champ with the Nationals. “You don’t hear that from owners too often these days. When you can finally hear an owner want to do what it takes to win, obviously that piqued my interest.”

This is a SUPER optimistic list even for the Yankees. I'm a redsox fan but trying to be unbiased here. Anthony Rizzo, I agree with resigning, I would try for 2 years maybe 3, definitely not 4 though. Trading Chapman and or Britton? Fully agree. Chapman has really gotten exposed the last few years. He's been relying way too much on just being able to blow it by guys. He's still good but not worth what he's making. Getting Seager is one I agree with for the Yankees too. Price wise without moving Chap and Britton is going to be tough though, but you're also going to have to get rid of Urshela or Torres if you do this. Don't forget were also saving a good amount now that Gardner's contract is off the books. Maybe he's resigned, but not for nearly what he was making. I 100% do not agree with sticking with Sanchez. This lineup has enough power bats as it is, go out and find a defensive first catcher. See if you can find a guy with good on base and or average too, but defense is top priority. Sanchez has a lot of flaws on defense, but his frame rating is what costs the Yankees the most in my opinion. A guy who can frame well is going to shed some points off that team ERA and turn walks into strikeouts. I don't see how the Yankees can't sign Judge, that'd just be a mistake on all fronts. And lastly Ketel Marte is not going anywhere without Volpe or Dominguez going. I'm sorry, just not happening. Diamondbacks aren't going to trade their best player for anyone but the best. And if you don't offer them up you will lose out to some other team. I like that move f or him though. Plus he will still be under cheap contract for 1 more year after that I believe.

The culture change starts with the owner. Hal needs to get rid of Cashman for the culture change to happen. Definitely don't pick up Britton's option. I'm all for trading Chapman. He's been good, but lately you need a pack of tums next to you every time he comes into a game. It only took Gausman almost 10 years to become a decent pitcher. I wouldn't bet on him, but maybe he could be a #3 or #4. I have a suggestion on Gary Sanchez.....get him a job bagging groceries. He's done nothing but regress. I'd rather have a 35 year old Buster Posey next season if he can give them a discount on his $22m salary if his option isn't picked up. I know that's a long shot though. Looks like their catching situation will remain horrible. Even when Gary is a FA in 2023 they will only have Willson Contreras to go after in FA. He's almost a mirror image of Sanchez. I agree about everything you've said about Judge. What I don't agree with is paying him $38m a season. $30m a season AT MOST! Their starting pitching is not good. The 2 guys I said would probably get hurt got hurt again. Kluber was hurt for 3 months and came close to a 4 ERA. Taillon got hurt at the end and had a 4.30 ERA. German was consistently inconsistent like always. Cole pitched like crap for most of the second half. Severino is a question mark health wise too. Cortez was a pleasant surprise, but we don't know if it was a fluke. Monty is a solid #4 starter. Not much to rely on there. Knowing the Yankees, they will sign a nobody again or another aging injured pitcher. They might even re-sign Kluber to another year.

I agree with everything you said but i would have 2 changes for my Yankees offseason. Instead of trading for Ketel Marte trade for Matt Olsen over signing Rizzo. He is better offensively and defensively than Rizzo and cheaper. Sign Sterling Marte to a 3 year 39 million dollar deal. He may not be as young and slightly worse hitter and defensively the Ketel (not by an extreme amount) but he is a great base stealer (47 this year) which is something the Yankees were lacking and Ketel is nowhere near him in this. Ketel cost about 9 million less than over the deal but you make that up with the saving at first. Move Arron Hicks to left to save his health in a less stressful position and trade Gallo as part of the Olsen deal are the only other things I would add.

I would not spend the money for a big time SS. Just get a defensive minded, speed player to hold down the fort for a couple of years tops for Volpe. We need pitching. Our bullpen needs help too, specifically a closer. You should lose weight sweating every time you put your closer in. Otherwise, I think it’s pretty good. Once thing I want to say is don’t give up on Gallo yet. He put too much pressure on himself being a life long Yankee fan and knowing how excited the fan base was to get him. Year 2, he will be more relaxed. A new hitting coach maybe can adjust his swing a bit to flatten it out a touch, to get more contact. If he’s not panning out, you can trade him before the deadline. He’s relatively cheap so not much to lose. On Sanchez, I would get rid of him. I know Higgy can’t hit a lick, but pitchers like throwing to him and frankly he wasn’t far off of Sanchez’s numbers when extrapolated out anyway. The only other suggestion would be to package Gleyber, Sanchez and a few prospects for Matt Olsen instead of signing Rizzo. Rizzo is a good player, great clubhouse guy, but clearly on the back nine of his career. Offense is slowing down and it’s just a matter of time before defense does too.

Get rid of the hitting staff, physical conditioning staff, whoever fucked up Gary Sanchez by making him catch from one knee (guy can't catch, frame, or have baseball sense and don't get me started on his base running). A whole bunch of players need to go: Heaney, Sanchez, Voit, Hicks, Gardner, Gallo, anyone with an ERA over 4, anyone with an avg under .200 who played everyday.

I totally agree with keeping Judge for multi year deals. Yankees can make the money back just by selling all those 99 jerseys and his accessories. He shines in the New York bright lights and he draws fans to buy tickets to the stadium. That is called good business judgement.

Agree w everything except Gary Sanchez. I think that with Cory Seager/Carlos Correa at short and Marte in outfield, we can justify giving up some power in catcher position. Higashioka is a defensively sound player with a below average stick, who could be supplemented with another catcher who has an above avg stick (for a catcher) and avg defense.
Cory Seager and Ketel would be perfect fits to fill the gap in the lineup-we need more players like that hitting above average in order to maintain pressure on an opposing pitcher, and the threat of lefty hitters in yankee stadium makes it harder to pitch around a lineup where judge or Stanton can also clear the bases.
DJ is honestly a toss up for me. I wouldn’t be too upset with whatever they choose to do with him. I can see him having another all star season, but to say he is still in his prime is probably an overstatement.
Gleyber Torres needs to stay at second base and needs more development in his bat. I believe that he has been mismanaged and I think he has the ability to return as an offensive threat
And lastly, maybe a hot take, but Yankees need to loosen up their culture. They need to not be so strict with appearances. They need to stop treating players like they’re selling a product, and recognize that good baseball is the main attractiveness to fans. They need to win a World Series soon

This business with consulting an analytic playbook to determine what should be done in any particular game moment is ridiculous. I give Boone credit in general for being able to navigate unbelievable difficult circumstances these past few seasons but more than a few times this season he's looked as if he's in over his head as he makes what many considered questionable in-game decisions to put it nicely. It just seems to be the right moment to have a change of pace and bring in a seasoned much more experienced coach to lead the team. According to spotrac the Yankees have 162 million on 10 players that either they won't trade or no one will trade for unless the Yankees eat most of the money... that's less than 40% of the team...
And here we go (roughly what he's suggesting)...
    Rizzo: 16x4
    Seager: 24x7
    Gausman: 22x5
    Sanchez: 7.5 million (estimated)
    Marte: 8 million (estimated)
    Judge: 38x6
    Judge makes 17 million now...
So this is where this guy is at after his moves:
Cole, Chapman, Britton, Stanton, Judge, LeMahieu, Odor, Severino, Hicks, Sanchez, Seager, Gausman, Marte, Rizzo....
    That's 14 players...
You're at 262 million for about half the team...
That's without an extension for Torres, Sanchez, or Marte...
This guy doesn't live on this planet. No one is going to pay Chapman or Britton what the Yankees do unless you unload your 3 best prospects that would be going to Arizona for Marte...
Marte would cost Garcia, Volpe, and Stanford...
With the other dozen players and additional from 40 man, this is $300 million before the luxury tax...
Lmao, how to fix the Yankees...
Trade Britton and Chapman for Trout and Ohtani, sign Correa for the minimun.... lmao...
Yankees are screwed with their long term deals... 100 million for 4 player before Judge or Torres extensions...

    1. If you can get Rizzo cheap enough, then yes, but I feel like it would be a bit too risky at this point, and maybe you ride it out with Voit until Austin Wells comes up
    2. We absolutely need an upgrade at SS. Seager's a great option, but if Volpe can somehow come up this year, he could be a fantastic option too
    3. Thames needs to go no question, but I'm a little bit worried about the clubhouse situation if they let Boone go
    4. Britton's untradeable at this point, but I'm not opposed to Chapman getting dealt if they could grab a couple more solid bullpen arms in the offseason and convert Loasiga to the full time closer
    5. Waaaaay too risky for Gausman who's really only had this one fantastic year. I wouldn't be opposed to it if it were a shorter contract though
    6. Marte is good if you don't give up top prospects. The issue is, they probably can't get away with it if they don't give up a guy like Volpe or Peraza, which wouldn't be smart
    7. I love Gary when he's good, but we need a defensive upgrade DESPERATELY if we can get one
    8. Judge needs a megadeal and the captaincy, no questions asked
Overall, I like your ideas, Dan, but I think we need an injection of young talent again instead of signing a ton of veterans to long, expensive contracts. The Yanks have got to at least get a bit of the Baby Bombers mentality back
