Episode 186:
Flint, MI power trio, Grand Funk Railroad, released their third studio album on June 15th, 1970. Closer To Home became the band's third album in 1970 to reach Gold status. The powerful lead-off track lulls the listener in with a tranquil acoustic guitar intro, followed immediately by an explosion of heavy electric guitar, bass and drums. "Sin's A Good Man's Brother" is a quintessential Grand Funk song, epitomizing the band's early, hard Blues-Rock approach.
OTW is engineered and mixed by Richard Williams @ Plum Tree Recording Studio.
One Take Weekly aims to present a sneak peek inside a studio recording session, each track performed and filmed in one take - imperfections & all. No overdubs, NO AUTOTUNE, and no trick-photography! (Just good mixing...& bare bones video editing skills) What you see is what you hear - CE.

Gotta admit -- you did it justice. That is not an easy one to sing! One of the all time great riffs.
I'm a hugh GFR fan, and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED!
You’re nailing Grand Funk, so great to hear. Great playing!
Closest cover I’ve ever heard. The tonality of the instruments and vocal is spot on!
As someone who saw GFR do this live in 1972, DAMN this is good!
hell yeah
Even have the Messenger guitar. First class sir.
Awsome again👍👍
Sehr gut! Guter Mann! Hab die Funk 2 mal live gesehen!
I didn't remember to compliment you on your guitar. Love it! A little tape and spray paint and it will be complete.Again, Damn good job.
Are you seriously playing a Messenger?! Your tone is spot on dude......this is nothing short of incredible. Thank you for keeping the GFR spirit alive.
Eastwood Messenger reissue!
Right on the money brother! Lovin' that stuff! wish we could JAM!!

Wonderful Cover - I would love to see you perform "Nothing is the same" from same album
WOW...funkiest funk !! Nailed this timeless classic rock all around. bass sounded just like Mels', actually all the tracks were excellent...nobody covers GFR better than you...I'm sure they'd approve!.... and support !!!
C'est tout à fait mon style de musique bravo
I love GFR band , and your cover is really really good !!! Bravissimo Chris
Fabulous!!
Excellent Work Chris! So good to see someone tackle this stuff. Big Fan of Grand Funk. You Nailed this
Man, you guys have it all. Bass, drums, gee-tar, vox. By far the best GFR cover band I have heard in my 50+ years of listening to these tunes. You capture the sweaty, testosterone oozing garage rock vibe of early GFR before they sold out to pop better even than the current incarnation of the band. I'm in awe.............
All I can say is WOW, right on .
For some reason I was expecting to hear "Aimless Lady"
That was really good
Here you go! czcams.com/video/huLuerDHonQ/video.htmlsi=buKzeQ-oL8-kwSqw
Perfect! My fave GFR song.
Amazing….thanks for sharing. Now that you have GFR mastered I’d love to hear you cover “Never in my life” by Mountain.

Induct the Funk
As usual Chris, you nail the Farmer Funk songs! Great job! Sharing with my Farmer page!
Nailed it!
Do more GFR videos, please
Splendid work, definitely a song to pull from the achieve dust it off and understand it fully or we will loose a nation.
Awesome rendition!
Awesomeness! Nailed it all but the vocal in particular. This goes into my Great Covers playlist. 2nd the request for Nothing Is the Same!
My FAVORITE GFR song of ALL time as you can tell from my "handle" I love how on the album they bounce the rhythm guitar from left to right channel while Mark Farner is wailing over it! It sounds awesome with headphones on too! My 2nd favorite is "Can't Be Too Long" 3rd is "Nothing Is The Same" ROCK ON Brother!!!
Outstanding!
Chris…..unbelievable!! I am now a subscriber!
OMG, gonna break out my GFR and listen to it again. You did great. All three of you, or is it four?
OutstaNDING!!
Very Cool.
Outstanding! A very good work on this song.
Wow! Cool! I have the same Eastwood Messenger, too.
Wow, asombroso 🎉
Fantastic!
come l'originale,anzi meglio
Nailed it Dude 😎👊
Close your eyes and you can hear Mark Farner from fifty years ago.
Eventually do the live versions of Paranoid and Inside Looking Out.
I have the very same Messenger. I'm very impressed with your renditions. Your 'competitors', if you refer to them as that, do not capture the essence of GFR as you do. Back in the early 70s I learned what I could of Funk by listening to Red and Live albums (33 1/3) at 16 rpm. Pretty much figured them out lick for lick
Has anyone sent this to Mark?
Awesome!! Can u do any BAD COMPANY w Paul Roger's or maybe even FREE?
Drums just aren't as good without the giant afro!
haha! Agreed!
