    These are super cute, definitely getting this pattern for myself. I went to a sewing machine graveyard this morning, lol, a warehouse where all the old sewing machines went when the school district I teach in stopped doing home ec classes. I picked out a few workhorse Kenmores to take back for my after school maker club, I have students excited about learning to sew bags with vinyl and their fandom fabric. Thnx for all the great tutorials that include free patterns, we are not Title 1 but we do have a lot of low income students and it’s nice to keep making equitable so anyone can join in. 🙂

      That's AMAZING Alice!! Wow, what a gift to these kids you are. Learning a skill like this at a young age not only helps them learn the art of making, but it shows them how incredible they can be using just their hands. And the amount of math and problem solving skills that goes into this. Such a gift for kids to learn this way of thinking. Thank you so much for being so wonderful!!

    For me it is easier to have the round fabric on top and the straight fabric I'm trying to "curve" down because then I can sew inside the "bowl". So the sides that kind of flip up can still go around the needle :D

      I haven't gone over that yet. I'm planning to discuss that on my blog in the future. But it's a very tricky territory. What I do is compare what I make with other brands. For example, one of my favorite brands is Stoney Clover. Lots of cute pouches and boxy bags and totes. I usually go around the same price as them for my makes, considering there custom items.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  Před 3 lety

      I've seen a few people suggest that! I think that would be adorable! You could add d-ring connectors in the seam between the front panel/back panel and gusset. Or, if you wanted to get those connectors right in the middle, you could add a connection on the center of the gusset, like we did in the Acacia bag

      @sonialovesewing2396 Před 3 lety +1

      To The Sparrow's nest, I order online. U should download the Joann's application. That way it will be easy to check the sale. They are out of stock of the light decovil 525 n the heavy one 526 also. They do hv the one yard of the heavy 526 but it's not on sale. Also check the coupons they offer online if it's not on sale. They sale quality stuff. The sew-in foam n the SF 101 👍 Try to buy by bolt bc u will save a lot of money, n u also hv to pay $7.99 for shipping unless they offer a coupon for free shipping. Think about it, if u save 50 or 60% u will save a lot of money. I hope this helps

    Omg just as you say these are just stinking stinking cute. I'm wondering if you wanted to make this into a wristlet could you do that and where would you put the little tab with the d-ring? Have you made any of these in Cork by any chance? Again thanks for this awesome tutorial and your style of teaching is always very easy to understand.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  Před 3 lety

      Aren't the adorable?! So yes, I think you could do a wristlet. You may have to add the d-ring connector in one of the exterior seams between the front and the gusset, more towards the top. Maybe 1" down? And cork would be PERFECT for this!

    • @maryannnewsham7714
      @maryannnewsham7714 Před 3 lety

      @@OklaRoots thank you for your reply. So if you wanted to make that into a crossbody bag would you put one of the d-rings on the front side of the gusset and one on the back or would they both go on the same side for balancing? Again thank you very much for your tutorial and for your reply. I'm going to order the pattern

    These are very neat! Just a side question for you...not directed to the pattern designer for this bag so..question for you...I love your tutorials and I'd love to make more bags with you, but with all the bag types you make I couldn't possibly buy all the patterns. Are there any free patterns for bags that aren't tote bags or simple zipper pouches? I do understand that pattern designers should get paid and I also think that a designer wants to market themselves as designer and that there are also many designers making similar bags. I would think they would want to give a free pattern so that I then am familiar with their style and I would be more likely to consider them when buying a future pattern. Just my thoughts...I would welcome your response. Thank you!!!

    When I have a zipper in a bag that needs to come out perfectly even, I zip the zipper shut, lay it across the top of the bag and then clip the zipper to the bag. After that, I open the zipper for stitching and I don't have to worry about the zipper being wonky accidentally.
