- This is a short review of the Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa in Varadero, Cuba.
The resort is a 35-40 minute drive from the Airport and the first stop for the bus heading into the resort strip in Varadero.
If you are someone who travels often to Cuba, this place will certainly be one that you like. They have a lot more included activities than most other resorts. For scuba divers, one dive per day is included in the package but make sure you get to the dive centre early on the first day. They tend to close by 10 am if they know the weather is going to be bad for the day making it pretty difficult to get on the list. They have 12 different dive sites that they go to so there are a variety of options for a one week trip.
I went in this resort in 2018 and it is very good place to visit 👌... top five and great staff
It used to be it is very bad now it is not worth it

Thanks for your comment on the video. You are going to really like the resort. I usually wonder about unbiased reviews and figured a video would let the viewer decide. The food can get a little repetitive so if you do have the chance, see if there are 'paladars' to explore off resort. Cuba has allowed for private citizens to open semi-restaurants out of their homes and i heard that some are really good. Have a fun honeymoon!

Hi Keith we went to Wararedo in this January but we went to Princessa Delmar just a normal yunior sweat but it was all good highly recomended thanks but i think i still my next trip in Hicacos Varadero!!!!!
Hi Keith, great review. We are in the UK and it's a long trip to Cuba for us but we are considering it. Did you go outside of the hotel at all, what's the local area like? Do they do full English? I have to have Baked Beans for my diet lol. Cheers for now, Mike
Thanks for this great review! I was contemplating between this resort and another but this helped seal the deal....but just wondering if you went with the Diamond club? I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the extra cost. It sounds like there isn't much of a noticeable difference between diamond club and non diamond club other than getting a designated lounge and designated area of the beach. I mainly wanted to know if 1. if going non diamond club drastically affects whether you get reservations for a la carte restaurants and 2. if there is a very noticeable 2 tiered system?

Diana Fong hi Diana! Thank you for your comment and question. So I really should qualify by saying that we didn't opt for the diamond club so don't know if there is a difference. There certainly isn't on paper. We always had spots on the beach and if you want access to the diamond club beach, there isn't much a $5 tip won't get you. If you know what I mean.
We really wanted reservations at the Cuban a la carte - so the first thing I did upon meeting our butler is handed him a tip and said thank you for welcoming us to this beautiful resort and suggested that we would love it if we had dinner at the Cuban restaurant. We were there for 4 days and he made sure we had an a la carte everyday we were there.
I wouldn't do the diamond club but apply 30% of what you would spend on it in tips. That's diamond club at 75% off. It's the service by the staff that makes for the experience and I would definitely do this place again.

bianka61 I'm really sorry about the late reply - the food was excellent. It was one of the things that separated this one from most other resorts. I would recommend taking some basic seasoning with you though.
A few of my friends are planning on going to Cuba after graduation next year. Most of us will be 18. You said it's and adult resort, would there be any issues staying here?
+Joel Cummings Hi Joe! While I would say only the best about this resort .....Its not a 'Singles' sort of fun place that resonates with Varadero. It is more of a couples resort. I hope that helps :)
Hello Keith. We was. Varadero in this. September but it was a wrong shoicefor the resort . We. Had a litle peek from the ocean for this resort part we lovdet i ask the. Guest how was there. Food and say was good ??!!
Hi Bianca, Was it the Royalton that you stayed at? Resorts do change over time but Tripadvisor seems to rate this one pretty high! I am not sure that i fully understand your question.
nice video, is easy going to the center of the city? bars or something out of the hotel??
Hi Carlos, thanks for your comment. We did not venture out much but from the map of Varadero, the town isn't too far at all. I believe you will need a taxi because everything is spaced pretty far apart.

Thanks for commenting :) the gym was small but had all the essentials to stay fit. Not too much in terms of specialized equipment. Weights and a few of the multi purpose machines. They are pretty strict about the shoes you wear in the gym so make sure you take a pair of runners. Also, they don't let you wear the same beach clothes in the gym either. Hope that helps!

I just got back it is not worth the price they reduced food service every thing covid destroy there reputation this no longer 5 star save your money
no repetiré nunca más,pagas por un hotel de 5 estrellas,que no es,la comida malísima,eso si él personal,que trabaja es estupendo,y no me refiero,a los directivo...Que son pésimo,sobre todo el trató cuándo llegas a regístrate,es pésimo,no lo recomiendo
