    I do remember riding on these buses when I was a child and my Nan used to take me on bus rides across East London including Ilford, Romford, Chigwell and Barkingside. And most of them had really nice liveries on them. Great video.

    Nice footage with lots of classic yellow Citybus with huge letter C logo livery running on streets. Some HK bus fans nickname it as Pac-man

    The 3-axle bus is registered as FK5095 in HK, and was retired in late 2014.

    I joined Citybus in about 1996 and was given the W6 and 299 shown in the film as a precursor to double deckers when I operated the 97 route ....then to Leyton Downsall Road terminus. Now it continues to Stratford. Oh such sweet memories.

    Quite a lot of the single deck busses in this video were also used in Australia at the same time this was filmed but a surprising amount of old buses from Australia and New Zealand ended up in Fiji when they were retired from service but they still run great as I did ride them while on a holiday in Fiji back in 2016!
    1:33 1:48
    Both of these busses were also used in Melbourne by NationalBus and later Ventura in the late 90s and throughout the 2000s but the Volvo mini busses were phased out by the start of 2017 as they were replaced by newer busses run by PTV while a lot of the larger Volvo busses seen in the video are actually still in service today but since then have been completely rebuilt and modernised and the last time I saw an unmodernised bus of that type was in 2017! It’s also likely you remember those same busses operating in Melbourne when you came here in the early 90s! I also find it quite interesting of how a lot of older busses we had in Melbourne were also used in the UK at the same time while even newer busses that we have here are also used in Singapore but of course have different seat and interior covers/renderings and liveries depending on what the bus companies order! :)

    Those dennis lance buses which were on the 36B at 10:05 came to Barking in the mid 90s for the 145. I missed those buses. Good times in the 90s

    Use to drive them Hong Kong Leyland Olympians when at Stagecoach Manchester during the the mid-00’s. They came back to the UK in 2003/2004 when Megabus was launched & I started in the Buses with Stagecoach in July 2005 & drove these HK Olympians when they were on the Magic Bus services. Certain ones good to drive, others not.

    When was it that the London Buses poles changed design? 1994 I think, but I’m too young to be able to recall this!

    The last Leyland Olympian coach was retired back in Jan 2015.
    I didn't take videos often, but here is one. You may see the 331 (J248 WWK) in the 2nd.

    Car drivers still don’t respect the larger vehicles hence why there’s so many RTCs - bus driver training is expertly given, whereas car driving (depending on instructor) is hit and miss.
    It’s car drivers who cause traffic, buses are timed around the traffic, and unexpected delays are car drivers who don’t plan ahead

      Yes, there was one Hong Kong bus - before being shipped off to Hong Kong it was used in London for a short period of time.
      The rest of the yellow bus fleet were owned by the same bus company but stayed in London.

      Only the 12m tri-axle model was destined for Hong Kong (as mentioned in the video it was on trial while in the UK). The others are inherited from the previous franchise (that's what the video said, I know nothing about Britain's bus system. Greetings from Hong Kong by the way.

    • @volker8760
      @volker8760 Před 4 lety +2

      Most (if not all as from what I know) those Leyland buses were all retired. Only a handful (at best) were preserved and some were shipped back to the UK, but many met their fate in the scrap yard despite their historic significance. They started the City Bus franchise with a fully air-conditioned fleet (a first in Hong Kong), and Princess of Wales, Princess Diana drove one herself at the Leyland factory (that's what I saw in an article online).
