  • Buses in suburban London in the early 1990's.
Several locations within south-east London and the part of Kent that was incorporated into the Greater London area in the 1960's.
This film includes the tri-axle Hong Kong bus that was trialed in London before being exported to Hong Kong and a roundabout which (very unusually for the era) included dedicated cycle lanes.

Seeing the old 261s in the blue and yellow livery at Bromley Common has brought back memories from when I was younger

Those Dennis lances on the 36b. Legendary buses which went over to Barking garage for the 145. Miss those buses

I used to ride the 272s and 180s when I was lad. In those days the 180 was an RM and the 272 was a DMS

So glad they made them paint all buses into majority red livery. All those different operator colours went against the grain outs what makes London.

I grew up in Croydon and I quite liked the London & Country livery. We always had red and green buses in Croydon (as they did in Bromley) -- the green ones mainly went south -- and it was funny seeing green buses on routes that used to be red (like the 197). Metrobus started out as an independent operator, a subsidiary or offshoot of Tillingbourne which ran buses around Guildford. It was only after all the locally based operations got rebranded as Arriva that they all went red again, or turquoise outside London.

No! I loved it but of course some routes should be red. I remember when the number 13 had routemasters and they were in BTS/Sovereign livery which was orange, on Sundays the route was operated by Metroline using metrobuses. I thought it was pushing it a bit putting routemasters in various colours.

Remember the Titans, Olympians in Woolwich at this time. Used L136 in it'sTram centenary colours. Remember the bendy bus C101 HDT, took a few photos myself of this one. Went to France for a year in '87, upon my return was surprised by the odd buses, in Woolwich in odd colours, due to deregulation and RM's on the way out from PD. Lost interest in buses now, uninteresting designs and many un London like oddities. Much prefer RM's RT's in this area on the older routes, such as 161A, 171A, 180A, but Woolwich was still nice in this film.

  • @newageinnerstanding1071

I have a question. Did the rider those days have access to a radio if for example they needed recovery or assistance?

they are not legally required to use bike lanes, but it would be better for everyone if they did, where these lanes exist
