Distal Radius Malunion | Patient-Specific Guides for Radial and Ulnar Osteotomy

Pre-operative Planning
A 3D reconstruction is made from CT data acquired using the Materialise scan protocol.
Comparison with the Contralateral Side
The healthy contralateral side can be mirrored, precisely aligned and used as a template for the correction.
Drilling and Cutting Guides
Based on the planned screws, one or more patient-specific drilling guides are designed and manufactured through 3D Printing.
With the help of these guides, the surgeon pre-drills the screw holes before the osteotomy is performed. The saw blade is guided through slots built in to the cutting guide. Guides are temporarily fixated using K-wires.
3D Planning
The surgeon plans the distal radius osteotomy together with a Clinical Engineer to restore the original anatomy as precisely as possible. Plate and screw planning can be made according to the surgeon’s preference. Plates are available from most manufacturers.
Fixation
To achieve the planned correction, the plate is placed on the bone by aligning the pre-drilled holes and reduction pins.
For each case, the surgeon receives a detailed Case Report including a description of the necessary materials and a step-by-step overview of the procedure. Approximate screw lengths are also included.
