Wes Barker is a magician and comedian doing funny tricks, and telling great stories. Watch here for hilarious magic, stunts, and pranks. I am the funniest magician that is also a stand-up comic, or maybe I'm the comic who is best at magic. Either way you get the idea. I tour all over doing colleges, comedy clubs, and corporate events. Catch the adventures and tricks right here. With this magician / comedian based out of Vancouver and Toronto, Canada. I make funny stuff. That’s my only rule. Everything has to be funny, from street magic to stage illusions, as long as there is a joke to be made. I do magic tricks, sketches, stand-up comedy, card tricks, mind reading, and tricks with naked people. I’ve been on America’s Got Talent, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, MTV Greatest Party Stories Ever, and Wizard Wars. You can find me pulling pranks on friends, gags on strangers, or just general sleight of hand, magic, illusions, and the occasional bar bet. - Zábava
Didn't Jesse Eisenberg's character say he bribed the electrician for the building?
He sure did
He mentioned that as well, but an electricion couldn't "easily" do this as well.
Yup he did
I love how the opening from Now You See Me kind of works on the audience too, makes it a magic trick for us as well as the characters
"No one is floating inside a bubble"... Well actually back in the early 1990s, Sigfried and Roy did a levitation where Sigfried was inside of a giant balloon. He was visible inside the balloon but it wasn't as crystal clear as this bubble.
I always appreciated how, towards the end of the Illusionist, it is revealed that the effects previously shown in the movie weren't actually as perfect as they were made out to be, but rather, just like you say, they were shown this way to match the experience of the audience in the story itself.
You could do a whole video on the episode of Monk "Mr Monk and the magician".
Or on magic fakers. "Magic or magunk" as a title or something
Or night court.
You should hit up corridor crew and see if they’d be interested in a magicians react episode! That’d be dope
Yes!
meh
Good idea
I remember Penn Jillette reacting to the first trick and pointing out that it would probably not have been an impressive trick for the audience since it's too perfect and there is only way it could be done.
Im pretty sure micheal cane’s character in the movie also told hugh jackman that it was “too perfect” but he didnt listen to him
"It is emotional true if not factual" This reminds me of peoples experience when the first phonographs were invented. If they closed their eyes the listener literraly believed a band was playing. Now when we hear old recordings we cannot understand how they could believed that, since to our ears it so obviously a recording.
That's such a perfect way to explain that!
It still stands with television images. When DVDs first came out (and with them, 720p "High Definition" video), my parents and I were watching a movie, paused it for a bathroom break, and my mom commented that the picture on the screen "could be a Rembrandt."
Now I sell $98 TVs that people complain have 1080p screens instead of 4K and they're "mediocre".
Didn't know the orange tree has a real version, I would love to see it!
The Marvelous Orange Tree, created by Jean Eugène-Robert Houdin (1805-1871)

Always gotta shill his brand!
I would like to see a historical discussion in full detail on The Prestige much like how you talked about The Illusionist at the end. Specifically, I’m curious to know if they actually killed birds back then and how/when magicians changed their methods.
Also, I would like to know your thoughts about the main piece of monologue in the movie presented by Michael Cain where he explains the 3 steps of a prestige and how much truth that has.
All I could think was Wes’s pocket looks like a silhouette of a cats face...
U mean optimus prime
That was actual pretty interesting! Thanks for clearing some things up for me ;-) Looking forward to more of this.
The Prestige is not only the best magic movie but it is one of the best movies ever made in general.
I especially liked when Hugh Jackman was disguised as Hugh Jackman
I just discovered your channel, I’m loving the reaction videos! I was a big fan of card tricks years ago and recently coming back to it. I just found my old bicycle ghost gaff decks, absolutely beautiful cards!
theres a scene from magnificent 7 where Chris Pratt does a magic trick, you should check that one out
Loved this video Wes! Keep diving into movie magic! Maybe add "The Sting" and "Shade" to the list? Would still love to see that genuine orange tree illusion.
Joshua jay always have a emotional story that perfectly fits his magic routines😇👏👏👏
Nice content bro👍
Awesome format! Happy to know that there will be more of this!
If you want suggestions maybe take a look at some stuff of this "The Mentalist" TV series, I never watched? :D
This is awesome Wes. Great content. Im a new subscriber, you gotta do more of these. I came here from Chris's channel lol but I'm here now. Any content that involves you just riffing about funny movie scenes or reddit magic would be hilarious every time.
this is a REALLY cool video, genuinely really interesting. Thanks for sharing 😊
The thing that annoyed me about The Illusionist was how much of the magic was CGI that could have been done for real in camera.
CEE..GEEE..👀
I loved seeing you review these movies. I watch another channel where they get real magicians, real doctors, real physicists, or real whatever is in the movies they are showing and then they have them watch it and they have them review the movie and say if it’s real or not. So this was like that but way better not so clinical feeling like their channel is. Keep up the awesome content....we are all loving it!
Really great video! Love this content, man!
So looking forward to more of these! And I agree that giving film audiences the right feeling is more important that being exactly realistic, but I still like to know the physics behind the illusions. I love Jim Steinmeyer's books for their details about the history of magic.
This is a great premise Wes. So good! 👍👍👍
Strong opening, The Prestige is one of my favorite movies ever!
Omg I love the prestige, my all time fav! I’ve been waiting for ages for this video! Thank you so much, i’ve always wanted to know what’s real or not in those movies about magic! Great video keep the good work!!
The ending of the prestige is one of the most haunting movie conclusions I've ever seen. It has been years and years since i saw the movie and i still feel the experience in my gut of the end.
I enjoyed this, and would love to see a part II that tackles movies that depict card hustling like Rounders, Shade, etc
The shuffles from The Sting! That had some good editing
That Paul Rudd movie character is just like you I swear to god that's you.
Nice
Thanks for the info bro
I've had a pretty bad couple days. But for some reason, seeing his smile at the paul rudd clips just made me feel so much better.
Your commentary is positive and great
I love this video idea man 👏🏻
Love this! Cool info!
loved this video! I actually once thought of buying a variation of Robert-Houdin's "Marvelous Orange Tree", obiously changed my mind after seeing the price. Such a beautiful act though!
Watching Wandavision? There was a nice little nod to that Antman scene in episode 4 😉 (with the Jimmy Woo character)
Absolutely, I would love to see more NYSM. How about Disney's Magic Camp too? I expected it to be more movie than magic and was pleasantly surprised.
I'm subscribing, good shit . . Kudos 👍
Might I suggest looking at the card trick Jeremy Piven does in Smokin' Aces.
Great video. Love how Chris and Eric are trolling you. :)
Gotta love Now you see me for using theory 11 cards!
More please!
Enjoyed it. Also, prefer Prestige over Illusionist too. Thank you.
I agree about the tree trick. @9:27 When I saw the original trick from many years ago, I was truly amazed. I kept thinking... "No Way!!
Great commentary
When you said about the illusionist, I thought you might look at peppas ghost. Oddly enough had to have the same conversation about it as you did with the orange tree. Love how it was done but knew it would have been a lot different in person.
Please review the show, “perception.” It’s so awesome and I have always wondered how accurate it was.
Alright alright im subbing haha GOOD CONTENT!
Great video
hey could you take a look at some of the card trick in white collar
Okay, first and foremost, I admit that I have way more important shit to do than watch Wes watch magic on television and movies and discuss how it was done. And yet, this is my 8th (?) video I've watched in a row...
hey at 3:04 whats that force called and when can i learn it, it look really good.
Can you react to the scene in now you see me during the ferry ride where Dave Franco’s character bends a spoon without touching it ? Or jus that of the other magic
Jerek 120 (Disturb Reality) broke down the Now You See Me card trick also isn't the handcuff interrogation scene from Now You See Me technically the same as the handcuff scene in The Prestige
Talk about the Netflix Show “Magic for Humans” and what tricks are vfx/camera tricks vs practical.
You can assume he lies but he says there's no camera tricks if I'm not mistaken.
The guy on magic for humans is legitimately a magician and can, in all likelihood do everything show on camera for real.
I don’t think any of them are straight up VFX but I do think they cut out certain parts of the tricks that would make the method obvious on repeat viewings.
@@antoniodiavolo that's entirely possible as well, however I haven't seen the show recently enough to confirm that.
I know any setup would be done off camera, making reverse engineering the tricks incredibly difficult.
Jonathan Gilson One of their main claims is no camera tricks or stooges so ig it depends on what you define as a camera trick.
Imo, a camera trick would be a trick that could only work on camera. So that would mean like most of the stuff Criss Angel used to do on Mindfreak.
I think all of these tricks can be (and are) performed live for real people, but as I said the important bits (like forces) are done off camera so viewers can’t reverse engineer it easily. And tbh Im fine with that.
Speaking of magic in movies, did you ever see the TV series "Jonathan Creek?" Alan Davies works as a creative consultant to a stage magician while also solving mysteries (because solving mysteries is the number two occupation in British TV series).
Pls i beg do one for Disneys Magic Camp and Sleight
I just love how the pen and teller fool us trophy looks like if says F U! How dare you fool us!
The tricks in Now You See Me were mostly hand doubles, to the extent that sometimes Jesse Eisenberg didn't even know how they were done!
Can you please explain whether or not the trick in NYSM2 where he falls into a puddle is real?
would've been neat if they showed edward norton's character backstage, fiddling with the actual mechanical illusion, so the viewer can clue into the fact that the effect they showed was kinda the theater audience's mind filling in the gaps/embelishing their perception of the trick on their own
You must see the “The Illusionist (Deception” serie!
There is a great little sequence in Mission Impossible 1. When Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has the floppy disk with the NOX list and he do some sleight of hand making it disappear then get it out of the woman's coat
Can you review Lord of Illusion
I LOVE RICKY JAY literally watch Ricky Jay and his 52 assistants i finally learned the opening 4 queen trick but yea definately reccommend it
Rick Jay was the man. Nice video. Thanks!
Don't know why, but, magic or not, one of the best reviews i've seen in a while.
When’s the next one of these coming out
In NYSM, on top of the force, if you back up to where he’s practicing in the loft, as the camera pans around the room, behind a beam, is a 7D stuck to it in the shadows just visible to prep the movie audience for the coming force.
"Deception" series!
I thought the 7 of diamonds “force” was a camera trick where they just showed the 7 for 2 frames, cool to know they can do it either way!
You should do more tricks from the now you see me
Legend!!
What's the name of the force he uses for the 7♦️ trick? 🤔
This is a really good idea. If I had frens I would share this
😂 👊🏻
Pls ep 2
Bubble + Wires is fine, for some things... trying to pull off small object levitates inside bubbles would be about the extent of it though. Having a (dry) performer hop into the bubble wouldn't work though, and even to consistently get bubbles of that size might make it not work often enough.
What’s the name of the real version of the growing tree illusion?
"Emotionally true, not factually true" = Professional Wrestling.
Sumo is both emotionally and factually true
Please react to the audience teleportation in "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" 😂😂😂
Everytime they do that 7 of diamonds force, the first time around I keep seeing 5 of spades.
Paul Newman had a hand stand-in for The Sting. Woulda been cool if he did his own card slights.
I think that the bubble thing is optical illusion using light and projection n also wire to make her fly.
I want to see one for Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Can you react to this magician show i think its called the greatest magician tricks unrevealed its a dude with a black mask on and hes basically explaining how magic tricks work i think it would be interesting if you react to it
Start a series
Well Jesse Eisenberg actually fooled Wes cause that 7 ♦️ force is no skill required!!!! Lollllll HE FOOLED YOU WESLEY!!!! Maybe for you, road work was the right career choice.
you do it then
Lollll
@@BalderDye yeah @Eric Leclerc if it's so easy let's see you do that force. FAT CHANCE! 😂
Mark7music English isn’t yours xo
Haha 👏
Do that new one... Magic Camp 😎😂
So regarding the bubble having it float and jump into it would not be possible. Still, you could do something very similar; you can form a bubble above someone and have them move inside. The issue is it won't like long, and it's hard to do without having it pot unless you use a specific mixture; you can use ad chemicals to the bubble soap mix that makes it so it's possible to have the bubble so it won't pop on impact when inside and touching the sides. Also, if you had the person set to an invisible floating rig, you could have the person float away with the bubble intact, but the number of things that could go wrong would be enormous.
Check out some old videos of Melody Yang Gazillion Bubble Show.
Demonstrates different types of bubble equipment use that you could use to get a similar effect. Yes I'm way to into bubble magic/science :P
Now I have the only one question. How did you do your trick to get your troffy? :)
I know you asked for movie suggestions, but consider adding Arrested Development to the mix.
I've done the 7D trick to my kid. Although, I went through a few decks before getting it.
I mean it could happen.. they would just have to get a lot of props and things too halter you up as well as fly. So it could happen it would just be expensive to do
The problem with the "Now You See Me" flicks is that the "magicians" basically have superpowers. It would've been much more interesting if they'd done things that could actually be done.
Try to reveal Shin Lin
I'm no magician so great respect for your opinion and I accept that the forced 7D on "Now you see me" can be done in real life. But I think that for the filmed trick I think they did it digitally. My reasons for thinking this is that the card shows for exactly 2 frames. I might be wrong, but I think that's probably the fast and easier way to do it.
Yeah I loved both the illusionist and the Prestige but the Prestige had a little bit of a better story
Just looked at the orange tree trick and it was pretty great but the Illusionist does give you really high expectations.
Flying in a bubble like that no. But Siegfried and Roy actually have done an incredible version of flying in a bubble above the audience which I believe that was inspired from.
