  • 5 'plot holes' in Attack on Titan, although that's a hard thing to argue even exists in the show.
So in a nutshell this video's just about some discrepancies / things that don't make sense in the show (aka I've delved too deep into the show and have to nitpick the tiniest things). Subscribe!

@@jaidenwood9247, I agree with what you said. A lot of the "plot holes" he mentioned aren't really plot holes and him just misunderstanding the concepts. Especially the whole "grisha vs Frieda" and "Erwin's suicide charge". Everything he said about those two _plot holes_ is just straight up wrong. And I can go on for a rant why he is wrong. I can defend some of those plot points. But saying that this story doesn't have any plot holes as a whole is wrong too. There are few plot holes even I can spot out especially in the ending.

I agree with some like Eren that did not know he was a titan. However, for the most parts, I would say, in my opinion, that:
-1 you overestimate people. They are flowed, they lack knowledge, they are scared, they don’t necessarily do what’s best
-2 a lot of choices made are difficult. Like saving Armin. And the author gives a lot of character development, I think, to justify these choices.
Anyway, thanks a lot for a very good and interesting video!

  • @CorruptionManX
    @CorruptionManX Před 2 lety +23

You skipped some very important plot holes, like when Eren is eaten and transforms inside the Titan's belly for the first time, and he had his arm ripped off and then we learn in the anime that it's not possible to transform while the person is regenerating, but he manages to transform even while he was regenerating. Another plot hole was in the part where they had to decide between Erwin and Armin, they could have tried using some of the liquid to save both. When Eren's father is sent to Paradis the guy who was giving the injections says he was going to apply little liquid so that one of those who were with Grisha would turn into a small titan. In other words, with a single dose they could have made 2 titans, Of course they only had one Warrior to use, but they could have done just like Conny's mother, leaving one of them in titan form, so you can say they didn't think that at the time, okay, but Eren didn't even notice later that they could have saved both? The father of the Historia becomes a titan just by touching his tongue in the liquid that fell to the ground. The anime has other plot holes, but I'm too lazy to write everyone I know. I'm learning English, but I think it's possible to understand what I've said.

Your point against eren isn’t a ploy hole, eren wasn’t regenerating but his body was damaged hence him only needing a reason to transform. Two things are necessary for a transformation, damaged body and intention. You are right tho, you can’t transform if your body is focusing on regeneration. Another instance where this happens is (SPOILER) when riener and Bert transform at the reveal of them being traitors, they were damaged but not healing those wounds.

Pretty sure zeke was incredibly damaged when he called a titan over to rip its stomach open so he could crawl inside.
I wouldn't call these "plot holes" per se.... but "convenient logic" in a work that's fiction. People need to be reminded of that. NOTHING makes sense in AOT if you really want to dissect it. That goes for pretty much all fiction.... certainly almost all anime.
To me I'm more annoyed with the inconsistencies. Like Annie's father in season 1 being portrayed as a blonde haired white dude.... you know... because Annie is a blonde haired white girl. To him becoming a somewhat adoptive father who's a black man.
Or the fact that the colossal titan transforms in season 1 to relatively little fanfare.... just a lot of steam..... to in season 3 and 4 when he transforms he's essentially an atomic bomb.
Or how about the walls being made of titans... when they're first exposed due to Annie climbing the wall Nick the pastor dude urgently tells Hange to cover it up because "whatever you do don't let sunlight hit it." But then he told the titans can only be activated to start the rumbling at the founder's orders.... which we're told isn't possible as the Founder 100 years ago swore off war and fighting altogether making the rumbling an empty threat. Maybe nick didn't know all that but still.
But again. It's a work of fiction. Does it really matter? It's still one of the more entertaining shows I've ever watched and I'm not even into anime/manga. AOT was by far a better story than, say, Game of Thrones. Unlike that show... AOT had a full fledged story with an excellent ending IMO. Sure a ton of retconning so to speak occurred throughout the series..... but IMO it flowed quite nicely and wasn't too jarring. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. In a world full of shitty shows and movies nowadays AOT was a breath of fresh air for me over the last 5 years when I started watching.

Seeing as the name is "female titan", I think it's safe to say that it does still have female traits even when a man is holding it.
    Manga spoilers:
We've never seen any titan that resembled the female titan (less skin) that wasn't a female in the battle on Eren's founder. I doubt that they ONLY gave the titan to women, or that it only landed in women after a shifter died without getting eaten. Even though the founder seems to also have a female body type when a woman holds it (Frieda), I think the female titan got the name from being consistently female as opposed to the founder only being female in the case of gender. So, with that, I think a man would still get a female-like titan, with maybe a few smaller male traits (facial structure, hair, etc.)

Most of the these aren't plot holes and just the way you look at certain things.
I will try to explain some of these
    No. 3
They couldn't sent all the titan shifters at the land paradise because marley was still engaged in war with other nations and their military forces heavily relies on titan powers. I guess thats also might be the reason why they didn't send a gaurdian or reinforcement with them, because they needed them in the war or maybe they were just too confident in those kids having that titan powers. I mean, they literally had a walking nuke on their side, who could have possibly mess with someone like that when it could even destory all the anti titan military forces with eaz. We saw them going through intense training and fighting all the strong forces and maybe they might have even made them fight pure and abnormal titans to know how to defend themselves if they were run into one. So, they definetly had a lot of experince. But they also heavily underestimated eldians living in paradise thinking they don't have any type of technology to deal with titans. They also knew that the founding titan's powers were sealed because of the vow and the threat about using the rumbling was just a bluff. So, they were completely safe from the founding titan. They didn't need to be scared of them.
Graunteed that sending an adult would have been more logical but marleians were probably too cocky and they still had reasons to trust them. They probably were too impatient to get the founding titan and so they used what they had best in their hands at that time
    No.4
The founding titan is not made for physical combat. The attack titan is better at physical combat. Thats what he is made for. Founding titan is considered to be the "strongest" due to its power to control all the titans and eldians but due to the vow carla fritz made, all those powers were sealed and the royal bloodline couldn't use that powers. Not to mention the founder titan form itself was suppresed. The original ymir's and eren's founding titan were enormous because they had the full power of the founding titan but that wasn't the case with frieda. Also she didn't have any experince of the founding titan either. Memories doesn't have anything to do with experince. When a person inherites a titan he only inherites the memories of the past titan shifter but not the exoerince. If that was the case most of the people who inherit a titan shifter will instanly master the transformation on the first try but thats not the case. The gaining experince is for ackermans not for the titan shifters. Those two are different. Also, saying that frieda should have so much experince due to her having the memories of all the eldians in the world is also dumb. Just how many of them even had the founding titan? And the ones who did have it, how much they have engaged in a hand to hand combat against an equal size? Ymir the first founder was a gigantic size titan crushing small humans, like a normal human crushing ants, thats not experince for fighting and then after that all of the founding titan inheriters after carla fritz made the vow of never using the founder's powers never did anything. They never used its powers, they never fought anyone. They just sit there in wisdom waiting for the outside world to crush them and not do anything about that and then get eaten by their succesor and that same cycle kept going on in the royal bloodline for generations while other keep praising them for being a "god".
None of that stack any experince for freida riese to get her ready for a moment like that where she will be put in a physcial fight against an equal size for the first time.
On the oppsoite side, the attack titan is literally a raging demon, who is *MADE* to keep on fighting. He had been fighting through generation to genertions against its oppressors to acheive freedom. He has been throwing hands from the very beggining. So if anything, grisha should be the one to have the most expereince.
    No.5
............NO! just NO! There is no way to defend your arguments. No matter how you look at it, or from which angle you look at it. No matter what mindset you hold, you are just wrong here in every way possible. First of all, going behind the walls is not a good idea. The clossal titan would burn them alive. Its not like they can even get a chance to leave the battlefield. The moment they try to to climb the walls, the beast titan would shred all of them with rocks. Not just that, they also don't know whats happening inside the walls anyways. They wouldn't know if the armored titan is even defeated while they are being cornerd by beast titan. And even if they managed to get inside the walls they still wouldn't be able to run away without the horses. The beast titan is still a problem.
Taking him down was the first priority. Even if erwin could get his hands on the armored titan, he would fall unconsious and will take a while to get back up and in that time they would be vunerable and even if he could tranform into the armored titan he would still get destroyed. And yes, they would still have nowhere to run. Plus, there original plan was to kill the armor titan not take him. They would have killed him too or at best keep him alive to get intel like hange decided because they still weren't ready to kill someone they knew so they wouldn't have fed him to erwin if he was still perfectly fine and instead try to find a differnet solution. but the cart titan saved him. Tbh, he should have just died by the thunder spears but its plot armored titan
Also levi choosng armin over erwin was an emotional choice. It had other factors playing in that choice than just "tHiS ChOiCe Is BEtTeR". See, this is another thing, when you are talking about a plot point you also have to know aboutvwhat character is involved inbthatvstory and understand them and try to look at the situation from their perspectives. Just because a character makes an inferior choice doesn't automatically makes it "bad writing".
Same goes for erwin's suicide charge. Even if you think there was a better choice you have to understand that in erwin's case, that choice made sense. That choice he made meant way more than just "bUt He cOuLd hAvE mAdE A bEtTeR ChOiCe".
You have to understand the character, about everything they went through, their experince, their development, the situation they are in, their mindset, their inner conflict. And once you have analysed that scene and understood them on the deeper level and know their depth and complexity, you will finally know that the decision they made there made total sense.
Its easy to critisize a person and choices they made while being a viewer but if you were in there place with shortage of time in your hands and being cornered feeling like there is no way out. You might at that time nit even be able to make a decision yourself and just simply either die for nothing or end up acting on impulse due to panic. You won't have enough time to spot out flaws about what type of things you could have done then because life is not a story where someone is critising you over your bad character writing and terrible choices you make.

How did Eren see future memories while sleeping in episode 1? He had no titan or access to royal blood at the time.
      SPOILAS BELOW
My theory is that since there's only one timeline:
Future Eren gains founding and attack Titans
Future Eren's founding powers mean ALL ymirites (including his past self, technically) are linked to him
Future Eren's attack Titans lets him see the past and future memories of its holders (including himself)
Past Eren is in a way linked to his future, founding self (as paths is timeless) and therefore his memories are there too
Intentionally or not, past Eren recieves a premonition of what's to come
-personally, I think the key is that founding Eren linked to himself while also having the attack Titan's power, so he in a way is timelessly linked to his own memories. He can't remember the dream because of how... "distant" the memories are.
