Was he hallucinating on Thames river banks when ANNAKKILI made even the hardcore classical music enthusiasts to see who composed those songs?! With Roja, it was just the SOUNDSCAPE. Music-wise, it was not in par with IR's quality, complexity, depth, soul, and finesse! In fact, DEVAR MAGAN deserved the National Award for 1992. Thanks to another backstabbing friend of IR, it did not happen! If they all (Mysskin, Parthiban, G. M. Kumar) want to work with Arr for updating their profile as "collaborated with Oscar / Grammy winner), just go do it. WHY use Arr, meanly, as a trump card to despise IR, or even put him on the same pedestal with IR? Let him not worry; he is NEVER going to get songs like Devanin koyil (the album), BG scores of Aruvadai NaaL / Uruvam, and songs like Idarinum from the self-proclaimed G.o.a.t. That SOUL, lingering freshness etc. are HALLMARKS of Ilayaraja's music - the answer for his own question. Even Arr's 90s' best output now sounds as stale as a week-old bread loaf. His so-called background scores are even more paler and lifeless, and in no way comparable to IR's. Within those 200+ movies, only the likes of Ismail Darbar, Ram Gopal Varma etc. "know" who composed which piece of music!
