You made a bold move buying a $5K Custom shop as a Beginner. I am with you 100%! I always tell people to buy the best they can afford and learning is so much easier.
This is only one side of a coin. There is that second side which tells you that 2 months later the same beginner can jump to the conlusion that playing guitar is not for him/her. I am huge AC/DC fan and Angus Young was my inspiration to start playing the guitar, and because of him I fell in love in Gibson SG guitars, but I knew I shouldn't buy expensive, top shelf guitar as my first. The best option is to ask someone experienced, even via Internet for a hint. Most people would agree that the best option is to buy guitar in the middle range of price, beacuse this is the way to avoid cheap awful sounding guitars with high action, but is not expensive enough in case of someone will be bored of playing after few months. The other reason (this is my personal view, it doesn't apply to everyone) is I think beginners shouldn't have things too easy from the beginning.
Love your playing. You have no reason to be anxious about playing in front of anyone. You’re a musician, and part of being a musician is loving what you play while playing what you love. Love my SG. For a long time I played Ibanez, and then Fender, etc. eventually, later in, I startled playing Gibsons and they just felt like a great old broken in baseball glove to me. They just….fit me. Keep playing and enjoying your guitar. You sound great!
This is the coolest video I've seen in a very long time because what I've realized watching it is she felt and acted just as I did when I dived into the Gibson world. I respect that. I respect her because she seems SO REAL. I only wish I could meet a girl like her. Someone who'll share that passion for not only guitars but Gibsons, lol. Congratulations on your new instrument as I know that feeling, and I know the love it brings to your heart. Congratulations again.
Very informative video. Quite the ride Gibson put you through. I've been there so I can appreciate your quest. Glad you found something that you will treasure.
I have the same anxiety when it comes to playing through an amp at a guitar shop. It's like I suddenly forget anything I've ever played and I start to get both sweaty and cold at the same time. What worked wonders for me was bringing my Fender Mustang Micro pocket amp and good studio headphones (Audio Technica ATH-M50x) to the guitar shop with me and playing through that. No one really hears what I'm playing but I can listen to the tone of the guitar and my nerves go away. The pocket amp is great for home, too, when you don't want to be tied to your amp and want to play in a different room. Just a suggestion. The guitar looks great!
Hopefully you'll continue doing these videos. It's really nice to hear about your experience :)) That new 64 SG looks gorgeous haha. Cheers from Argentina!
Very Cool, Thankyou. I too am suffering from 'Anxiety' and feel super self conscious playing in front of others so rarely have .... ever, but am trying to 'get out of my shell' by occasionally posting guitar videos on CZcams. I always 'hated' SG style guitars, for unknown reasons, although being a big Duane Allman, Angus Young fan. I recently picked up a 2005 Epiphone Black SG "Standard" (I think) used for an absolute bargain in Perfect condition with case ($100- Australian, so Very cheap here), so I couldn't resist, LOL. WOW, I was blown away, such an awesome fun guitar to play, and now I understand Gibsons claim that SG's have the 'Fastest playing neck/action' even though I am far from a 'shredder' lol. Your SG is SUPER Cool, Stunning. Congrats. Your playing is awesome, be confident. (I know easier said than done) Cheers. PS: Seeing your Slash LP on the wall behind you has convinced me to Purchase the Artist Guitars "Apricot Burst" LP that I have been thinking about. LOL. So Thankyou.
Seems like we are similar in many ways! I never thought I'd be into an SG type guitar, so I'm a bit surprised that it has become one of my favorites. Let me know how you like that Apricot Burst!!
Sometimes the guitars at a store have been mistreated by customers so that may explain the scratches. I just bought a speaker cabinet on Reverb from Cream City and they are great to deal with. I just found your channel today and I really like it! Subscribed by the time I finished the second video!that
Its always nice to come across another guitar channel. Thanks for sharing your story. I think I'm subscriber 250! Im actually waiting for my first Gibson or Epiphone of any kinda to turn up. A LP Standard 50's, brand new from the shop. Ill be shattered if there are any issues with it.
I just bought the same guitar a few weeks ago. You're video helped me make the decision. I got it from Sweetwater. I love it. Best sounding SG I've ever played.
Awesome guitar. I've never owned a Gibson custom shop model but I've had several standard production model Gibsons and have enjoyed (most of) them immensely. I'm actually considering purchasing the Epiphone version of your SG with the Vibrola. I've never had a guitar with a Vibrola on it and am curious to try it. Anyway, congrats - it was a fun video. I always like hearing people talk about their enthusiasm for guitars and music.
I’m happy you had such a great experience on new guitar day. I’m currently look for my first Gibson. I’m a Les Paul guy. Lol. I’m trying to find one around the same weight as my current Epiphone LP Standard 8Lbs 6oz. I’m most looking forward to,that lovely smell of a Gibson. Maybe that’s why I’m buying one. The smell! Lol. I’m looking forward to seeing your next video. I binge watched the others. Have a nice day.
Oh my gosh, that smell gets me every time! I'm a little crazy and make sure I seal the guitar right back up in it's case to try and get the smell to last as long as possible 😆
Nice! I love the SG! I bought my Squier Strat-O-Sonic from Cream City Music off of Reverb. They were quick to respond to my questions, and shipped fast.
I bought an SG for $200 back in the late ‘70’s. Someone had removed the serial number and painted it black. It had the P-90’s and screamed. Friends that owned Les Paul Black Beauties said it was the loudest guitar they’d ever played and loved it. It had the dots on the fingerboard. I cleaned it up and sold it for $400 in 1982. MISTAKE!
Grats on the 64RI. I’ve got one from 2019 when they came out. Funny story is it came with a weird buzzing that came and went. Ended up being because the vibrola under the plate wasn’t screwed to the body! I ended up getting some screws shipped from Gibson and put them in myself rather than shipping back to the store. I knew it was a small issue only and the guitar sounded and felt magical otherwise so it was one to make right rather than reject. I don’t use the vibrola much, but it does stay in tune fine. The trick is to make sure contact points are smooth ie nut sauce or other graphite in the saddles and nut. So everything comes back easy. Some people swear by domed thumbscrews for the bridge or roller saddles but I’ve not needed
Congratz, The SG is my all time favorite guitar, I purchased my first one at the famous Manny’s music shop in Manhattan way back around 1980. I like Les Pauls as well but after playing an SG , a LP just feels like you’re grabbing an anvil LOL!
I really didn't think an SG would ever be my thing, and then I tried one and well.. here we are haha. I also didn't think I'd like the Maestro vibrola, but after using it a couple of times it was like I couldn't live without it. I'm constantly reaching for it on my other guitars, and sad when it's not there. Thank you for watching! If you ever get the chance to check out an SG one day, let me know what you think!
YOU CAN"T FEEL BAD about a store that doesn't even check the wirng on a guitar- you got a used one and someone probably did a mod to the wiring ( i know i do) but once at the store, they should check what is going on for anything used coming in and they should inform the customer- especially those without a lot of experience-- If you want any advice, you should get a LP special with p90 pickups- a nice TV yellow a lot of gibson QC issues arise from those who have never ownded a nitro finish guitar- they look at the poly guitars they have and say to themsleves- wow, the finish is sooo nice and even..well that is becuase it is plastic and easy to apply . When one shoots a nitro finish, there are "peculiarities" because it has to cure. Gibsons are guitars built in the vintage style, you can't compare modern plastic guitars to such a process. It would be like finding a Authentic native turquoise necklace and comparing it to the one you found at Target made of plastic in Taiwan. The real turqoice will have irregularities and imperfections- the Target piece will be uniform and...well...unatural.
Yes, I much prefer the nitro finishes complete with quirks! My modern guitars will never age in the cool way that nitro does, so I was specifically looking for a nitro finish. The poly finish on one of my Strats was starting to crack off like an eggshell and if I hadn't gotten it repaired the whole finish would have eventually come off the guitar in large chunks. This guitar in the video was being sold as brand new, but you're right. I shouldn't feel bad about returning something that was clearly defective. It almost made me feel like I was crazy, since you'd think a new guitar would be wired correctly from the Custom Shop. Just glad I found a great replacement that was wired correctly and not all scratched up from someone else's playing it.
Hi, certainly Les Pauls are a little bulky, but when you test a Les Paul Standard Axcess Custom Shop, you will be blown away. They are not as heavy and the heal makes the guitar so special and comfortable to play. Love you SG but I am Les Paul guy. I love your passion for guitars, I understand your feelings.
Just as an FYI, there are lots of Gibson groups on FaceBook that are really great communities for guitar freaks like ourselves to post pics of our babies and just talk Gibson to our hearts content. Yes, some groups are definitely better and more relaxed than others (I'd stay away from anything that has anything to do with vintage Gibsons which appear to be populated mostly with people who own vintage Gibson's and enjoy making fun of people who don't) but it's all trial and error...okay back to the video. I'm debating getting a CS 64 SG myself so I can't ait to see what you think of yours.

Thanks for the straight up video. I’m interested in these and must say this model has gone up in price! Nice SG !

Enjoy that new guitar feeling! Just subscribed after watching your Epi review. Your journey is just starting. Thanks for letting us come along.
And thank you for watching, Shawn! :)
The most beautiful electric guitar ever made
Loved watching you completely geek out!!!! So happy for you!!!

Very informative video. Quite the ride Gibson put you through. I've been there so I can appreciate your quest. Glad you found something that you will treasure.

Hi Ashley i'm interested in buying one since i saw this Video, watching again as i'm so excited to get one xXx : )
I like this channel! Good stuff
Thank you!! It's a lot of fun for me 😀
Congrats, beautiful. I loved hearing your guitar story. Creamcity is great, I've purchased from them previously!
That is awesome to know! They seem like really cool and fun people and were amazing to deal with.
Outstanding, congratulations late! For me, this ‘64 is the one!
(Just ordered the exact guitar last night, a ‘22 that will ship tomorrow)
:-)

Always love to hear this! I hope you enjoy it for a long time 🎸👍
Enjoy it. Hope it inspires you to up your game.
It's common to put the pickup selector in the case during shipping (at least for Gibson guitars.
We are all living vicariously through you. lol
Lol, please do! Too much fun for just one person :)

Good to see somebody having as strong OCD as I have when it comes to buying and inspecting new guitars. I hate blemishes on brand new guitars.

I don't know how I missed this comment, but oh my gosh! That guitar is your "the one that got away". I completely understand!
Good luck with your guitar playing journey, and welcome to the first stage of your guitar addiction. I’m 40 guitars deep, but was at 150 guitars…..

I have never played an SG, that is the one I would want to play. I love the tremolo bar!

Next time you change your strings, use some lemon oil on the fretboard.
Thank you! Most definitely will :)
Btw, the SG was Gibsons answer to the Strat
My first SG was an Epiphone and that particular one was perfect... no neck dive, lightweight, and great tones for everything... but I needed a bit of cash and needed to sell it. Since then I've been chasing finding one that good again. SGs are great, but I am bothered by neck dive more than a lot of players, so I have some reservation about buying another one.
How much does this one weigh? Just curious as I recently got one. Great guitar but on the heavier side for an SG. Not to heavy or anything though.
64 is the one with the chunky C profile neck isnt it? My 64 335 does.. But Im looking at an SG my 2nd favorite guitar. But slim taper is not my thing. I got the same patina type finish. Put your own wear on it. It ages fast just sitting in the case it yellows nicely. My ring finger and pinky shake like that too and Ive been playing 30+years. Mine shakes from my anxiety meds. Not the anxiety. Check into that maybe? It gets worse with caffeine and nicotine. I play 8’s Cobalt.. give them a shot!
That’s my dream guitar, especially with the fat ‘64 neck.
I already have a Custom Shop Les Paul Junior ‘58 double cut in TV yellow (Johnny Thunders style).
Very chunky neck.
I love SG’s and have a Fender Custom Shop ‘59 Esquire so not stuck in any Fender versus Gibson thing, like yourself I love both. If you haven’t already, try a one pickup guitar where the volume and tone together can be extremely versatile, there’s a very different quality to an Esquire or Junior.
Your SG is fabulous and the vibrola is so cool!
It sounds like our tastes are VERY similar! I'm literally drooling at the thought of that Esquire, and have been REALLY wanting an SG Jr. Continue to enjoy your awesome guitars, and thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment!!
such a classy woman... and the SG IS KILLER.
Thanks so much for watching! Enjoying the SG very much :)
Nice guitar. I thought the '64 had the larger "bat wing" pickguard, yours has the smaller '61 style. Reminds me of the Derrick Trucks or Gary Rossington signature models. I have an SGJ and a faded special, got them both used for less than $500 each. 😊 I understand the g.a.s. too. My highest total was 12 electrics, 2 acoustics, and 1 bass. But I was only really playing my 3 favorites, so instead of having them collect space and dust I prefer that they were used by someone wanting to play them. Sold 9 of them to buy a nice amp 😁🎸🎼🎵🎶
It sounds like you had quite the collection! But you are right, when they aren't getting played, best to put them to better use in the hands in someone else. I bet you got an amazing amp in the end and now have an epic set up!!
Nice Ashley ❤.. what was the weight??
7lb 9.6 oz
I'm the same way with the anxiety playing in front of people....I have a '61 without the trem (not a CS)..... I love that thing.....your husband should talk to my wife regarding our obsession with guitars.... I'm A tad fickle when it comes to my collection which was big at one time but now I'm down to just 3; my SG, a Gibson LP Standard goldtop and a '62 Fender Musicmaster.....but there always is room for one more!!!...sshhh... greetings from Akron Ohio....would be glad to talk guitars with you anytime...
Sounds like you kept the good ones! And yes, always room for "one more" haha :)
Im confused.. the first SG was a brand new custom shop and had scratches and incorrect wiring!?? thats ridiculous
Never worry about how you sound in a guitar shop. You’re there to give them your money, own the joint when you walk in. I’m a newbie and by gosh I’ll go in there and play E, D, G, C and A all I want … I’m buying the guitar, not the next guy over.
This is such a good point! Working on my confidence and having a better perspective about it all.
The only SG i have is the Gibson SG modern - blueberry burst. Love the one you purchased....enjoy !!!!
Thanks so much! I bet that blueberry burst is killer!!
Just discovered you! now this is an awesome unboxing!! not a huge SG fan...i love strats and les pauls but now I may get an SG!!!! Hi from nyc....btw Cream city is awesome check out there you tube channel
Thanks so much! If you end up getting an SG, let me know how you like it 😀
i like your playing style as well...just subbed@@AshleyOffset
@@sooparticular Very much appreciated! Happy to have you as a sub
😂 @ 1:54 .
The Gibson SG is the sexiest, curvy, woman shaped guitar ever known to mankind 😂
