Splash was a better ride for sure. When it was maintained and everything was working. People forgot it really was on the level of mansion and pirates, maybe not at the end, but damn it was still fun even when it didn’t have the care that it did in the early years.

They really should have just released the movie for people to see and make their own judgments on. The reality is that the movie isn't at all what most people today are probably thinking and the aspect that stands out the most is arguably historically accurate. Or at least some historians have argued that the black characters were historically accurate to some degree and it seems odd that Walt would have made a movie that angered so many bigots if there weren't some significant inspiration from real life in terms of folks like Uncle Remus.

I still love Disney World and I know many great people that work there so I hope they can figure something out. What I think would totally thrill Disney fans is if they decide to do yet another overhaul to convert it back to Splash Mountain with all new updates and elements like they did to the country bear jamboree. I saw it yesterday and I think the show really was improved. I miss the fat jokes and the alcohol but they did such a good job with all of the updates it is worth the tradeoffs.

I mean, the whole motivation seems to have been that Splash Mountain was "too "rural" or "too white" for modern Di$ney...this despite the fact that it was already constructed, operational and popular. It’s more than likely that the higher ups are forcing them to use the new electric animatronics. I am a former CM from the creative costuming department. Whenever there was a new show we tried to reuse as much of old show stock as possible. But it often felt like the higher ups were forcing the designers to make different versions to stop us from reusing a lot of stuff. I can’t tell us how many times we had to went through different fabrics before we actually used what everyone in the department was saying we should have been using in the first place.
They want new, but when we needed money to get more costumes for an existing show it was like pulling teeth. There are costumes that we told them we needed to stress test because we had never don’t something like that, the ravens in the festival of fantasy parade. We were only happy about the Maleficent float burning because it gave us time to test new designs because those wings were so fragile and heavy, and constantly coming back for repairs.

When I hear about problems on this level, it reminds me of that company that built the tourist sub where they decided to use 'new' engineers for DEI reasons as well as wanting what they said was thinking outside the box. They ignored the old hands who had been building submarines for years due to the hubris of company management with the result an implosion and loss of life. There is a reason the older engineers should be listened to due to having seen many of the possible failures in the past and well as knowing what methods lead to successful project completion. Again we appear to have an issue with either Disney hiring of unqualified people to fill check boxes instead of merit or management overruling their engineers to meet time constraints or similar corporate priorities. Also we can't forget that Disney took out MASSIVE loans for decades to come during Covid which have not been paid back yet but we never seem to hear about now in addition to the Hulu and other maintenance and operational costs as low level personnel reductions only help for so long to offset those costs and results in needed repairs and services being dropped which will further impact customer satisfaction.

I personally think they've sabotaged this ride, because they got so much flack over taking down Splash Mountain for this overgrown ChiaPet. This ride is not about the story "Princess and the Frog" it's an extension of the story that completely loses the fairy tale feeling of Disney. And while the ride was met with tremendous complaints, far before it was finished, Disney was too far along and had too much money in it to turn around at that point and ditch it. So now, it's having all these issues, when Splash Mountain had all those animatronics and had no problems. That ride was always working. I believe Disney is behind these "problems" with it, so Disney can save face. They will have to scrap the ride because it's just not working and they can't get it working right, and then all of a sudden, another ride will go up in it's place. This will allow Disney to put up something like a "Little Mermaid" flume (which would make more sense anyway, since it's a water ride), and make everyone happy. Anyway you look at it, it's an expensive mistake, we'll all pay for in the long run, with even higher ticket prices, parking, food, etc. JMO

  • @ThemeParkZilver
    @ThemeParkZilver Před měsícem +7

This problem goes far beyond Tiana's. For years Bob Iger has had no faith in the parks. Even as far back as 2017 they were seen as unsustainable. Say what you will about Chapek, never once did Bob Iger say "spare no expense" and Chapek tell him "No." What we are seeing now is the result of half a decade plus of doing the bare minimum to keep the parks running so that profits could be siphoned to more "profitable" ventures like Disney Plus. (Which as a reminder in something like 12B+ in the hole. It had a *single* profitable quarter, but is years in debt. You could build HK Disneyland 2 times over with that.)
Disney parks are circling the drain right now. Prices have to increase to offset lower attendance. Lower attendance is caused by the borderline trickle of new things to do, cost and declining quality. New experiences cost money which has to come from park revenues. (They certainly aren't making big dollars at the box office.) Revenue is reduced by maintenance costs (much of which they are cutting corners on) and employee wages (which they are trying so hard to keep low that quality employees become scarce) both contributing to lower quality. Return to step one, increase in prices. Without something to break the cycle somewhere Disney will only continue to decline.
I'm sure the pixie dusters will try to refute this. And you know what? I am happy for them. Anyone well enough off to be able to spend money so freely is very lucky. Unfortunately, the number of people who can do that is decreasing each time the prices go up. Further, given the current state of the parks, constant closures, literally falling apart lights and fixtures, increases in fights among guests and cast members. You would need a very heavy dose of Pixie Dust to try and argue Disney is better now than 10 years ago. In which case Disney has two options, back up to where they were or further down...
    Edit for grammar.

Same exact ride as before. Same exact boats, and the boats do NOT look to be part of the refurbishment. We saw one boat has to be manually unlocked for a ride to exit, via a large T pipe tool.
I think (my opinion) it was lazy reface. In some places the 'moss' is just green spray paint over the old clay finish. Minimal animitronics and one of the Tianas was just broken (zero movement).
It is a very poor job. Nothing like you would expect Disney of old. They assume they can just ride their name forever, and that time has now passed.

In a high-tech and/or mission critical automation application, a facility with all this automation (i.e. the ride) would be endurance tested for at least 2 years before it is deployed to production (i.e. opened to the public). This means the ride and all the doodads would be built in a separate location and be tested and tested and tested and thoroughly debugged. Then, even after all that testing and it is delivered to the park, you will still have issues come up, but it will be much less severe and not impact production. Disney has no engineering talent, or the input of sane engineers were completely ignored. This would never see the light of day in Tokyo Disneyland.

Why does any engineering project fail? Could be incompetent engineers, so the team could have too many DEI hires that were not up to snuff. Could be insufficient time for design and/or testing, so Disney may have gone lowest bid or rushed the project to save money. Either way, if you hire qualified engineers, tell them exactly what you need, and give them the time and resources to do it, and you will not get a failure like this.

Hiring using DEI versus skilled personnel to implement a "new" ride to an existing ride (Splash Mountain) that worked just fine. So, they decided to fix what wasn't broken and in the process, they broke it... It will cost a season of The Acolyte to fix it. Looser, wouldn't it be cheaper to just hire a bunch of actors to play Tiana and the new characters on the ride? Seems to me that would be better received too. If someone chews me out for something I’m wearing that isn’t promoting hate crimes etc…someone & their employer will be sued for denying my right to freedom of expression. Will NOT tolerate it.

Dude, you have GOT to stop interrupting people while they're talking. You are so bad at that.

Old imagineers: "You need to use hydraulics..." Mgmt: You're fired. DEI hire imagineers: "We will use the latest electronics and control boards to provide a seamless expansive customer experience." Days into launch... Mgmt: "What is going on???" DEI imagineers: "Hmm...apparently state of the art electronics do not function well or last long in a high heat and humidity environment resembling a wet sauna. We will need to replace everything with, um, hydraulics!"

The Epic preview was packed the other night. People were so excited and buying up a ton of merchandise. We all can't wait. Meanwhile, at the old park in Disney I was yelled at to move my car from an empty parking lot while waiting to pick up my children. The vibes are very, very different.

Rocket Rods. I had the pleasure of riding it once. It was pretty fun, in concept, but their inept engineering decisions killed it. If they had reinforced the supports and banked the turns, it would have been really cool. That, the Yeti, and the slew of recent epic fails have tarnished the once quality name of Disney. Sad.

Maybe it’s sabotage, maybe they rushed things or maybe it’s a ploy Disney is playing out, because of the backlash they got for changing the ride. In the end they’ll put some things back the way they were (Splash Mountain), with the cover the malfunctions are more expensive to fix.

It's like miss LaReina said, really. Had worked in the ship engineering department for a few years and I have seen this actions been taken even there as well, customizations in engines prior to testing conditions, all just after the owners heard "we can save money with this" without thinking the issues they may follow after. Unfortunately we live into a world were the people that lead it, hear and see everything first with the dollar signs without realizing the aftermath may be costing them way more money they could wish for.

This would be a great redo option to just close it and adjust not only the animatronics but the storyline as well.
