    Hi Josh! Thanks for going to all the trouble of making videos to help others. I have been struggling with how to organize my vegetable garden planning every year. I like your chart it's simple, I think in the past i try to include too much information and it gets overwelming. I might use yours and just add a variety and days to harvest column. Eventually, once I figure out the best varieties for us that information wont be so important. Keep up the great work!

    In my opinion succession planting is one of the hardest things to get right in gardening because the bottom line is that it depends on the weather, and who can plan that? Maybe you have a milder climate Josh, but here in Australia it’s very tricky.

    • @JoshSattinFarming
      @JoshSattinFarming  Před 5 lety

      Oh, it's tricky here. Nothing ever goes to plan. You just have to do your best, make adjustments and learn. That's why I can't have a super strict crop plan.

    Can u talk about crop rotation. In one bed I will plant legumes. The legumes expire.Then I plant a root crop. The root crop gets harvested. Then I plant a fruiting crop. The fruit crop dies back. Then I plant leafycrop. That’s crop rotation.when do u implement it? Is it feasible if all I grow is leafy greens? 😊

      That is true. I live in New Mexico I use regular ground soil perlite peetmoss mushroom compost and wood chips on the top. My crops grow well but the growth rate is slow. • @JoshSattinFarming

      @@spencerhearn6152 Maybe try a small raised bed with some proper soil mix and see if it makes a difference. It sounds like you are adding lots of stuff. My soil is heavy clay here so I just lay down compost on top and plant into that.

      Can you clarify what multi-sowing is? I haven't heard that term before.

    • @Chris-op7yt
      @Chris-op7yt Před 5 lety

      Josh Sattin : rather than thinning cells to one plant each cell, deliberately grow on multiple plants together. Charles Dowding uses it a lot for his maket garden.

    • @JoshSattinFarming
      @JoshSattinFarming  Před 5 lety

      @@Chris-op7yt I don't think cells to one plant, I just plant one seed per cell. That saves a lot of time. I'm sure you can grow multiple plants per cell, but that would depend on the plant. Bunching onions for example would be great, but not for lettuce.

    • @Chris-op7yt
      @Chris-op7yt Před 5 lety

      Josh Sattin : I'm following Charles Dowding example, doing most things in little bunches, even lettuce. you get lots more but smaller plants, which is perfect for getting smaller leaves for lettuce and things like onion or beetroot can be harvested over time and final thinned bunch allowed to grow to full size. you get slightly smaller full size beetroot/onion but more per area. no empty cells or work thinning or having to have backup seedlings if a plant or two fail to thrive. transplant very early direct from cells into deep holes in open soil. saves a lot of time fussing about. of course cabbage and cauliflower single planting out, but even then from multi-sown cells. Charles needs constant production to meet demand. Thought this method would be more widely known/used.

  • @constancelovejoy7308
    @constancelovejoy7308 Před 5 lety

    Going radish to lettuce is not proper crop rotation. It’s legumes to root to fruit to leaf 🙁 Why aren’t u following crop rotation properly? 😊

    • @JoshSattinFarming
      @JoshSattinFarming  Před 5 lety +1

      I fully admit that I do not follow a traditional crop rotation. I do not use cover crops, but instead use compost and alfalfa meal to increase the fertility in my soil. I rotate between types of crops to try and reduce pest pressure.
