Palmetto State Armory | Dagger Or Butter Knife?

- The Palmetto State Armory Dagger is yet another underwhelming Glock 19 knock-off. As you'll see, it lacks in many many areas compared to an OE Glock 19, and many other Glock "clones." In the end, the only real objective benefit of the Dagger over any other "clone" out there, is price. But price doesn't mean much when triggers suck, the shootability isn't up to par, the internals and components are cheap, and any and all advantageous frame modifications are completely missing. The popularity of the Dagger shows that if you create a cult, you can feed them any pile of crap and they'll eat it up.

Those triggers are god awful on the old shields. Can’t believe anyone ever brought that design back.
@RenoMay 100% agree man! Everything else aside on this pistol. That trigger is pretty horrible.
Let’s not forget…it works…it’s affordable…and PSA’s mission is to arm as many civilians as it can..
@Mangini_baseball_instruction Yes, they hide behind that mission statement while providing some of the worst firearms on the market. If the bar is so low that "it works and is affordable," then Hi-Point is king.
@@RTTGunsGear
Haha, the Hi-Point carbines are imo under-rated in the world of PCC's, but their handguns...🤮
Great review Matt and I really appreciate the shout-out at the end. The biggest downfall to the Dagger is definitely the frame and trigger. I actually really like the slides I have 2 now but both are different variants and the Suppressor height sights are tall enough to even work with an enclosed optic with the RMR to Acro plate which is pretty cool. I appreciate you Brother see you in a few days
Thanks for the support Chris! And as always, thanks for watching! And I agree. The fail with this pistol is 100% the frame.
I have a dagger slide/barrel assembly that’s a non fancy cut version. It’s on my gen5 frame.
Shoots decent. Like my Glocks.
The only reason I’d ever get a Psa dagger is because it’s cheap as hell lol. But definitely wouldn’t pretend it’s just as good lol
@RenoMay yea. I think the slide and barrel is definitely the best part of the gun. Thanks for watching Reno!
I got a used Taurus G2C from work for $150. Shoots exceptionally well for a little gun. It's ammo picky as far as JHP's go, but eats any fmj. At that price, I can care less, it's a dedicated truck gun so if the truck gets stolen, catches fire, hit by a tornado...whatever, I'm not crying over it.
Idk how I never realized how big your hands are. You make the g19 size look like a p365 in my hands lol 😂
🤣😂🤣😂 Yea bro. They're some big old mittens.
bro got me at “they made it smoother” 🤣
I used to really like the dagger when it was my only “clone”. Now that I got into building SCT frames I now realize that the dagger frame is not really as nice as I thought.
@jesseboutdoors Yea.. Basically every frame out there is better. Thanks for watching Jesse. If you get the chance to try out a Grit Grips frame, I highly suggest it.
@@RTTGunsGear I really want to try Grit Grips when I’m done messing with my SCT-17 project.
I had a Dagger for a bit... it was pretty ok and worked fine, although the recoil spring was garbage and the end piece was un-screwing, so i bought a gen 3 spring and it was cool. Definitely would not be a self-defense pistol but fun to shoot
Yea, that recoil assembly is pretty bad. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the time and review.
I really dig the channel and the fact you answer or reply to us.
I had a P80 and had similar opinions toward it.
A 19X is the replacement.
@@NickBlazer-cf1vs 19x is a great pistol! I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching!
Hinged trigger? 🤮 Come on man.
Right!
Ive had a few, no issues. Fun to build and tinker with. For the price cant really beat it for a toss around. Still prefer the real deal glock or a lone wolf also.
That's the shelf I would put it on. A tinker toy. Thanks for watching!
Great straightforward review, and you're spot on, bro. I got their complete slide with threaded barrel and a gutted Dagger frame that I put together with all gen 3 Glock componentsand a '-' connector. This combination seems to work pretty well together, and you are right.. it was more accurate than I thought it would be. That hinged trigger can stay in the dumpster where it belongs.. lol
Got about 4000 rounds on mine, own OE glocks as well as a few other brands and I guess I got lucky cause I find myself disagreeing with a lot of your points in this one lol. Different strokes for different folks ig 🤷♂️
Some of it, as I said, is probably subjective to the frame not fitting my hand. But it's hard to argue that a defined thumb ledge with texture isn't better than a non-defined or textured one. That a double under cut isn't better than not having one. I'm not arguing that a person should or shouldn't like the pistol. As with any of my reviews where people disagree with me. It's your gun and I'm happy you like it. More power to you. But that's why I try to separate subjective things like how a pistol feels in my hand. From objective issues where companies dropped the ball on things that could have been advantageous to the shooter. Thanks for watching.
The Smith&Wesson SD9VE 2.0 is relatively the same price and now has a flat face trigger.
I've seen that. Maybe there's hope that some day, when Smith throws away the blem triggers from the 2.0. That PSA goes dumpster diving again and we end up with a flat faced Dagger trigger. Lol
I was really excited about the dagger when I heard about it. But now it’s not exciting. I would rather them have come out with something not dirt cheap but better for less money. Instead, I feel like it’s not a Glock or as a Glock for less money. Other than steel sites and not having to pay extra for optics cut.
I agree man. They could have done so much more with this.
Seem like the cheap and fun way to go is with the Grit Grips frame and PSA complete slide.
To me, I don't know why go with PSA at all. Grit Grips has their own affordable slides. AIM Surplus sells fantastic affordable slides. While I said I could recommend this slide. That's not to say that's necessarily the best route to go, in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Interesting video as always brother 😊
Thanks for the support bro!
have you tried it on your 19x? cause I kinda wanna see how it works on a gen 4 frame.
I haven't. But I'll try while I still have the pistol. Thanks!
@RTTGunsGear I know they come RMR cut and if PSA has worked out the major issues, I might consider it. but it's gotta work with my frame.
Got that same shirt just in army green lettering bubba! Compliments on your choice of clothing my dude.
@@patrickfellers4266 Thanks!
Lol, and people call BCA bad.
I've had the same number of BCA guns as PSA, and even more individual BCA parts. And I've never experienced a functionality issue with BCA. I know others have, and I've seen it. But company to company, I've had far less issues with BCA. Thanks for watching.
@@RTTGunsGear yes sir.
Best review of this pistol yet.
I was contemplating putting the PSA complete slide on a GG frame.
Did you shoot that combo? I would be interested in hearing how that is.
Thanks brotha.
I did shoot the PSA slide on the GG frame. Everything fit and functioned fine.
@@RTTGunsGear
Killer.
Thanks!
Still as snappy probably.
@@dstdrummer it was still snappy. But because GG actually knows how to make a frame, it was far more tolerable.
@@RTTGunsGear
Many thanks.
You rock!
At least your lights fit on the rail unlike FocusTripp’s Jakal Pic rail Debacle.
I recorded this before his Jokel video. Otherwise I would have mentioned it in this video as an example of PSA's ongoing quality issues.
@@RTTGunsGear perhaps a good video to clarify for another day.
@@MHSMOKEEATER I shared his video on IG. If I ever end up doing another PSA review, I'll be sure to mention it then as well.
I've always been on the fence about the daggers. I don't mind the hinged triggers, my older M&P 2.0 9mm has one but it's much better than the gen 1 trigger. I just seen too many issues online where the slides aren't milled properly and inducing malfunctions. When I got to handle one at work that was an order for a customer, I was not impressed, lol. Appreciate the honest review buddy!
If you get the opportunity, check out the Taurus GX4 Carry, that's actually quite impressive for the money.
@@toddk1377 I'd absolutely take basically any G2 or never Taurus over this.
@@RTTGunsGear
You're definitely not the only one I heard say that 🤣
Awesome review wonderful information
Thank you!!!
Neat never looked into the dagger kind wondered how it was.
All in all, it's really not worth the look. Thanks bro!
Not a fan of the Palmetto Dagger. Same goes for the Glock. The grip angle is not to my liking, triggers are terrible and no under cut. In the process of doing a grip reduction , removing the hump finger grooves and adding double undercut. One I have added performance trigger and the other have not decided. So after doing that will still prefer H&K and M&P striker fired pistols.
The sights are a atrocity
I didn't get much into the sights only because most will likely put an optic on one like I have in the video. One thing I didn't mention is that the rear sight is off center from PSA. Thanks for watching!
@@RTTGunsGear
If it's one thing I absolutely love P80s and air force training is the ingrained OCD both of those things leave you with. I aim for perfection in slides I put together in my kitchen, yet there are manufacturers that can't center the rear, or apply loctite to the front screw.
PSA makes range toys and that’s it. I would never trust my life to a PSA product.
@@9770G 100% agree! Thanks for watching!
@@RTTGunsGear 🫡
That shirt is 🔥‼️
Lol! Thanks! And thanks for watching!
You ever put hands on 80% arms' gst-9? Any thoughts on it compared to grit grips?
@mghegotagun No..just the OG Polymer 80 that I had to finish myself.
@@RTTGunsGear
A shame. I think you may like it. Hoping for scotus to make up their mind on the receiver rule to buy a few more.
Are nomad 9 frames about as rounded in the front strap as grit grip frames? I like p80s, but my hand size makes the feeling like I'm gripping a block of wood a bit too pronounced with some interestingly-placed calluses thanks to the hard corners to go with it.
I agree dagger is a range toy and good starter for anyone wanting to learn to put together a “glock” without too much initial investment
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
I’ll be sure to steer clear! Thanks for the video, I’ve always been curious how they really shoot.
Thanks for watching Kyle. Yea, I think this shoots like crap.
Fan boys are fan boys regardless of the brand.
I never did like the dagger. I’ve never shot one, never held one, never even wanted one. Taurus g2c on the other hand can’t go wrong. I’d get that if I couldn’t get a Glock.
I'm with you. This review would have never happened if it weren't for my friend letting me borrow it. I'm too familiar with PSA's low standards to have ever been interested in spending money on one.
Was a fan a first but after a few rang trips with the daggers and oem glock, as well as a few other clones. Imo the dagger is the bottom of the barrel. The polymer is some of the worse out of many other clones.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
What part or parts are not interchangeable with Glock?
The pins are regular roll pins that have to be punched out with a punch so they are not replaceable. Also there is a nub on the trigger bar that prevents it from working with Gen 3 Glock slides. You can dremel that nub down and the gun will still work fine. Otherwise you can replace the trigger, bar, housing, connector, or all of it without issue. I also think the locking block is not compatible with the Glock.
Josh is correct. Sorry I didn't get to your comment sooner. Thanks for watching.
well all know psa prerogative, the make first kinda cool but definitely not second. unreliable. but looks like hot high speed shit.
Can totally understand about the speed bump on the grip, I don’t have that problem with the dagger but definitely have that problem with the PSA rock. I will be modifying the grip to do away with that and I definitely can not understand why they put that fucking hinge trigger in it even Smith and Wesson has done away with that on the SD9 Gen 2, they should’ve just put a flat trigger in it, I picked up one of the micro daggers with the C1 slide the compensated slide and it actually is pretty enjoyable to shoot however, I want to get rid of that stupid trigger and picked up a very expensive drop in overwatch precision trigger and it was heavier than the factory trigger so I sent it back. There was definitely something wrong with that trigger from overwatch, and their customer service is absolutely terrible in my experience. so I definitely cannot recommend overwatch precision.
@Scott079 That's weird. I've had the exact opposite experience with Overwatch. I suggest them all the time. But, everyone's experiences do vary. Thanks for watching man!
@@RTTGunsGear whoever I was speaking to through email basically told me I didn’t know shit about installing a trigger and I must’ve installed it wrong. It’s not that hard to install a Glock trigger especially a drop in one. that really pissed me off. I will never recommend them. I’m probably gonna pick up a tactical pontoon.
Lol, always count on Matt to be real.
This is why it is important to be able to test fire a weapin before you buy it.
Lesson i have learned over time. Save the $100 check AIM surplus and other sites for LE trade ins and you can find G19/17 for $400 and under. Youll be money ahead spending the additional $100
@jw5297 100% !! Thanks man! And I agree. A worn LEO trade in is absolutely better!
@@RTTGunsGearprice of new glock parts are cheap, you can rebuild a glock cheaply with all the aftermarket parts made.
@@RTTGunsGearThis said, many LEO trade ins i have seen are mostly holster wear. Most cops don't shoot that much to wear out the important parts.
@@jw5297 Absolutely!
I just can't bring myself to own any more glocks, not that they suck, just cannot get over the grip angle, it just makes me fucking hate it 🤣
For the first 4:00 you’ve said nothing but there’s things I like things I don’t like, get on with it, my time is something I like.
Cry harder. Maybe it will get you somewhere. When it comes to taking people seriously. Being a massive whiner is the first quality I look for.
this is a dagger roast lmao
Not a roast. Although I understand how it could come across that way. But considering the cult-like following this and other PSA products have, I just pointed out issues with valid reasons why they're issues. People just aren't used to GunTubers actually holding companies accountable for putting out sub par products. So it comes across like a roast. If you happen to stick around the channel, you'll see that all of my videos are like this. I call out the good for what it is, and the bad for being bad. Thanks for watching.
@@RTTGunsGear I'm actually a long time viewer first time commenter. I'm a Glock fanboy, which I guess would make me a dagger fanboy. And u were honest in all of your critiques of the dagger.. I first started watching your channel when u reviewed the 19x. Which was also a great review.. I watched both reviews of the 19x u made..I smooth out some of the sharp lines on the compact dagger. It's a good tool for me. I wouldn't go to "war" with it, but if I was in a situation that called for a couple of mag dumps I'd use the dagger. No sense in a 1K firearm getting lost in the evidence locker.. Which has happened to me.
@kahledblackman318 Well I appreciate you watching all this time! I have another 19X video in the works as I put a new slide and optic on it. I didn't want to mill the original slide. Sucks to hear that your gun was taken. Happened to me once a lifetime ago and it took a year to get it back. Thanks!
@@RTTGunsGear can't wait to see the new video. I didn't want to mill my slide either. I like the finish Glock put on the 19x slides.
@@kahledblackman318 I bought the gen 5 Swensen Slide from Midway. I think there's a picture on my community tab from a few weeks ago.
Better than Glock 19 gen 3 out the box? No. Can it be better with upgrades? Absolutely.
@@losoway4505 Comparing an upgraded pistol to an OE pistol is silly. If one does the exact same modifications to an OE Glock that they do to a Dagger to make it a reasonably good pistol. The Glock is still a superior firearm.
@@RTTGunsGear Glock is king. What do you think about the Shadow System?
@losoway4505 They're overall good pistols, but I think their Foundation Series is the way to go with them. I believe many of their other models to be overpriced for what you're getting. But the Foundation is a good pistol with the right amount of "upgraded" parts for the asking price.
Thank you for what you do sir. We out here appreciate it.
Thank you Daniel!!
How you can do the CA review and give those guys the benefit of the doubt but not psa ..there selling 159$ cut d co.plate slides ..and 49$ frames .. And the dagger frame isn't great just a basic starter gun..head scratching womeone wouldn't understand that its just a basic gun
I didn't give CA the benefit of the doubt. I've roasted them twice! And made an entire video about their CA19 being a horrible piece of crap when I bought it and it taking months and multiple parts to get it right. You can simp all you want. But the Dagger isn't a good gun and PSA avoided every step they could to make a pistol that could have been nice. If pointing out issues with the pistol, and backing up each and every issue with valid reasons and critiques hurts your feelings, you're probably on the wrong channel.
