Mooroo: This podcast was a class of its own! I was glued to the screen and the hour and 23 minutes went in a flash! I had the privilege of meeting Dr Hoodbhoy in 2016 and he gave me an hour and 30 minutes of his time and I was nothing but astounded at his depth of knowledge on sciences in particular and society in general. What impressed me the most was his humble nature. Quite a contrast when you see some who have 1/5th of the qualifications that Dr Hoodbhoy has and they have so many honorifics (usually worthless such as peer e tareeqat, hazrat and you get the gist) and yet Hoodbhoy is easy to go with Hoodbhay sb.
Aside, keep on growing mate! Good work.

He took one of our courses at Quaid e Azam University and woah what a teacher he was. Not to mention his amazing lectures on different topics of physics. He is SO right about the state of affairs of education. Sometimes I think I need to do my whole masters degree again because there were only a handful of teachers (including him) who took teaching earnestly and from whom I actually learnt something. There's zero skill and true knowledge that we gain out of our degrees.

Amazing Podcast. He is the most misunderstood person in Pakistan. Had the pleasure of taking a course with him at Uni and can't forget the passion he had towards sciences and this country. He is brutally honest and principled, that's why people don't like him.

This is the most awaited podcast for me. I have learned a lot to Sir Houd Bhai he is the best intellectual mind ever in Pakistan. Here I am suggesting you to invite Syed Muzzamil Hussain.
This was so so good. It added so much nuance and depth to Dr. Hoodbhoy's opinions. We often end up consuming peoples' opinions on other people so much, that getting a chance to listen to the person directly is refreshing and necessary. The discussion on the idea of nation state and anarcho syndicalism is timely, because a lot of us proponents believe it has cues for us to follow to build climate resilience.
The laanat on the nation state was just profound ❤️ we all must envision a collective future that frees us from self inflicted human miseries (that only exist to perpetuate heirarchies and hegemonies).
Although I believe that the fascination with Scandinavia and the European Union is devoid of colonial context in Dr. Saab's views. The democratic stability of European governance systems exists because unequal global capitalist systems still continue to benefit the Global North.
Great session. Good questions raised by Taimur. Instead of asking soft questions, he asked such questions that helped common people in developing understanding of religion , politics and science. The program was also helpful in understanding Pervez Hoodbhoy thinking and approach.
I think the main lesson here in this podcast was to keep an open mind about views opposing your own. And i think that's very valuable. Why are we so afraid to question the religious beliefs we are taught? Why should we follow everything blindly? Why is everyone so scared of doing a little research? Go out google, research, ask questions, find answers, follow your religion. I don't understand why people are being offended by a view that's different? If your belief system THAT weak?
With that being said, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and can believe whatever suits them.
I think everyone should make an effort about questioning what they're taught as to why that's taught and then draw your own conclusions. Moroo bhai i am in awe of your work. Always well researched and unbiased. Always with an open mind. And your podcasts have definitely opened my mind up alot. Sending good Energies your way 💗

It's an excellent podcast. A scientific mind with a strong belief in scientific observation explains his side of world view. Though an interesting finding is his firm acceptance of Darwin's evolution theory.. nevertheless..the man isn't shy of his expression. We should have such podcasts of contemporary intellect scarcely available in the land of the pure.

We can be atheist, agnostics,hindus,sikhs,christians or muslim with any kind of denomination. It doesnt matter. Our beliefs belongs to us and we shall share our wisdom with the world in the most respectful manner and let the people pick from it what they see fit. But the most important point is we are all Pakistani and we all love our country and we need to learn to listen, understand each other and bring our nation up on the global scale. No one in their right mind wants to gain anything at the cost of Pakistan. We all want to grow with Pakistan. This is a beautiful interview. I have to point out that I disagree with Professor Hoodbhoy's religious insight which he puts forward from time to time but I deeply respect him as a leader in his technical field and as a man full of wisdom on many other matters. I must say that this is the kind of content we really need. Nothing against other youtubers/content creators for the content that is being put out for our people to consume,
as it is indeed consumed by our people, and thats what they want. But in order to ignite that spark or flame to question everything and everyone,
regardless where it takes you, such talks and dicussions are extremely important. We need to grow our STEM community, but in order to do that we must talk about the reality of our world and our lives.
One aspect that gets talked a lot and is extremely sensitive, to which I'll also throw my 50 cents in, is this involvement of religion in each and everything where its not even needed.
Please, I am not trying to hurt anyones sentiments and beliefs, but merely calling out our lack of understanding of how this complex world works and where we as Pakistanis stand in the world? and how many years, if not a century, we are behind the rest of the world?
Whether you believe in God or you don't, whether you have a predefined meaning to this life, or you are trying to find meaning-
what matters is the pursuit of knowledge, which I am sure whether thats an atheist or a beleiver on that journey, God wouldn't mind. We need to question everything and everyone, we must!
The important thing we all as Pakistanis need to realise and ask ourselves, "kay jo humay bataya gaya hai, hamaray ghar waloon nay, molvi sahb nay, ya ird gird kay loogoon nay. Kya voh wakai sach hai?
Agar woh sach hai tu, jo chinese soochta hai ya swedish ko uskay culture nay bataya hai, woh kyun sach nahi hai?"
And trust me whatever you will find out, it might shake you down to your core and make you question your whole existence, what you have been taught, you may not even be able to look at your family or friends our Pakistani culture and society in the same way.
But I want you find strength when youre going through that journey. Although, I know it will! But I really hope it does set you free. Now, I am not suggesting to stop believing in Allah/Islam, or beleive in it, thats not the purpose, rather you finding the truth or atleast whats not the truth.
Think, just like as Pervez Hoodboy said, if you were born in some other part of the world you would defintely believing in something other than whatever youre believing right now. And thats a really profound statement.
The problem is that we are made to feel so scared and afraid of what "can" happen to us "if" we don't act, behave, say or live in a "certain" way. To think we might burn in hell for the rest of eternity to questioning and arriving at the conclusion,
that fits the reality but not your beliefs, is so absurd. That fear is how you control and manipulate anyone.
Now what I am about to say next might offend some people, but am I not allowed to ask questions? I will also state that I respect every religion and beliefs of an individual.
But you should also ask yourselves, if you took out all the religions of the world, and all the believers stop praying, fasting, doing everything their religion asks them to do - would the world cease to exist?
Would we stop being caring towards one another, would we all start murdering, raping, stealing- basically doing any worst thing humanly possible towards one another?
I believe we won't, some people would I agree because some people still do that, whether they are ab atheist or a religious person. Any idea, evil or good, from when its conceived till its execution is limited and only limited to an individual, no other power or entity or supreme being.
But what if we took out science(I say science to what we ALL can agree on - AKA Facts!) and its knowledge out of this world? Now, do you think the world would cease to exist. I agree.
Now again I am not suggesting to pick sides and wage a war against science or the religion, the world doesn't need any more division. NO!
All I am saying is that if someone feels fulfilled by praying, fasting, abiding all their religious duties. I am all for it, I do want that for everyone, to be happy and content.
Just the same way you should be happy for an atheist, agnostic, someone who might be different to your gender, cast, race, sexual orientation/preference, whatever the difference may be.
If you can't be nice to someone, atleast show some human decency and respect to your fellow human being.
In the end, to me, it seems there are two kinds of people who look at the facts and based the reality upon the said facts. Others are those who look at their beliefs first and then base the reality on the said beliefs.
Lastly, read books, read about other cultures, read about other religions, read about science. Just READ!

I belong to the community of Dr. Hoodbhoy which he recently criticized at the 75th of Pakistan and most was justified. I enjoyed watching, though his idea of renouncing the nation-state is about taking a Marxist and communitarian position while both are utopian ideas, and, the claim that science doesn't belong to a sect or religion is not entirely admissible for a scientist's view also arrive from either foundationalist or anti-foundationalist basis and they do choose one.
Either follow utopia or live as psycos.
What I just watched is highly commendable, we need such podcast to atleast be able to broaden our horizons.
We as a nation badly need to hear these highly educated pepople.

Dr Hoodbhoy is absolutely right. our government or state is not interested in knowledge/research and science. We are not interested in History. Dr Hoodbhoy is a concerned scientist and intellectual and Pakistan needs a lot more such people.
