I am a firm believer in skills-building and laying a strong foundation in sewing. This little pouch is the perfect project for you to hone your zipper skills! The design was deliberately kept simple so that all the attention is on striving for the perfect zipper end results.
The Sakura Coin Pouch is an ideal project for anyone who wish to try this technique, even for complete beginners. The pattern also offers you a great opportunity to try stitching out a reverse appliqué around the Sakura flowers cut-outs! Cutting machine enthusiasts can have some fun with this option too as SVG files are included!

am I the only one who got quite dizzy with all the flapping around of the materials, while watching this really great tutorial for which I am most grateful ?
I can't tell you how glad I am that I found this tutorial. I HATE zipper tabs. Even when I use them my zippers come out all wonky. I can't wait to try this method. THANK YOU!
So the key is to not sew over the zipper teeth & leave the zipper ends long, brilliant ❤
I’ve watched numerous videos on zippers and tabs and I’ve learned something new with each one.
I’ve been sewing for over 20 years. My favorite thing to sew is zipper pouches. I have never in my life seen this technique!❤ I will be using it from now on! Thank you so so much! You made my day.😊 I’m definitely subscribing!
I completely agree. I have watched countless tutorials but never has anyone told you not to sew over the zipper!!! This is such a game changer for me❤
I just love how you 'show' / explain everything....so clearly. I use your techniques now in my sewing ..you have made life so much easier and sewing more enjoyable. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your secrets. I actually love the look of tabs, but functionally, I hate them. Especially in something as small as a coin purse, I like to have as much access as possible in the already small space. Will try this out tonight 😄
I love tabs too! But yes, in a small coin pouch, tabs limit the opening space. It’s also easy to churn out very quickly without tabs!
Thank you for not speeding up the process, you really helped me out. Thank you thank you thank you 🥰🥰
You’re welcome! Glad it helped!
Thank you for such a comprehensive video! 👏 This was so helpful in helping me to sew a zippered pouch 😊
Thanks so much for this video! I make jean bags too but often make different closures because I cant get the ends to look nice. I like to have linings even on little coin purses! No one shows to not sew over the teeth! Im trying this today!
I agree... All the other techniques either sew right over the zip teeth, which gives ugly corners, or insert tabs, which restrict the opening. This technique is great!
you know, pushing the zip toward the lining never made any sense to me!
that fabric is adorable and your video is wonderful thank you
Very nice. I ve been stitching bags n purses for the last 50 yrs. But still I ve learnt something new today. Very neat finish. Felt happy seeing the video
Love it ❤. I have always trimmed the zipper close to the end. Will definitely try this . Thank you
Very interesting and easy. I will be trying this today. So many ways I have seen people doing zippers and this seems to be the easiest by far.
i so love zip pouches will be incorporating this method ive been following the crowd lol glad i took a detour tysm for sharing tips and tricks
I will have to try this method. Its good to have multiple zipper installation options! Thanks😍
Indeed! I may just do my zippers this way from now. Made a larger wristlet with this method and it looked just as nice!
I just love this technique. Thanks for the video.
Loved it! My purse came out perfect. Thank you
Lindo trabalho! Me inspira a continuar fazendo coisas maravilhosas! Muito obrigada!!!
Great technique, allowing one to open the zip as far as possible and such a neat finish. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
You’re most welcome!

Love the look and feel if the way the zipper closes & lays so straight! Fun & easy to make❤
Thank you!
Love the bag and the sewing foot.
Found this tutorial this morning and have made two pouches (second one with square edges). It is really well explained and I love not needing to do zipper tabs ! Thank you !😊
Gorgeous!🤩
Thank you! I love how the zipper looks!
Me too! I love tabs, but this is a great option too!
This means you can make purse anysize , its about setting the zip correctly. Fantastic. Thankgod
This is the BEST method for me and I am now using it every time! The only thing I do differently is that I like the outer fabric top stitched so I do that instead of the lining. Does anyone know if it works to top stitch lining and outer, separately of course?
(I do find the video difficult to watch. If you ever have time to remake it, perhaps eliminate as much of the fabric flipping as possible?)
But I will be forever grateful for this genius method!!
Thanks so much! I can't wait to try this method.
This little purse is fantastic and I love how you inserted the zipper, thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome!
Thank you for this video. I used it today and it came out beautifully! It's going to be my go to method from now on.

This was really needed! Thank you for sharing❤️
You’re welcome!
I was always sewing over the zipper and wondering why it looked so bad... Will try this technique soon! Thank you 🙂
Could you help me understand what's the difference between sewing over the zipper, versus leaving it like she does in the video? Much appreciated!
@jaclynlee4040 Late reply but in case you are still wondering, sewing over the zipper can be really bad for the needle and thread too - I find my thread snaps when I sew over the zipper. Just my two cents ! 😊
@@jaclynlee4040costurar por cima do zíper não deixa essa aparência mais bonita de como ela fez no acabamento.
Love the tutorial,and your technique.

Well I'll be darned! Haha! I'm thinking, gosh poor lady someone buy her a heavy duty machine to get over the zippers and all along it was on purpose haha... with an amazing finish! Mind blown! Learned a few great tips here, thank you so much!
Haha… you’re most welcome!
Excellent
Very useful
Thank you, this was great,.
You’re welcome!
Thanks
I watched this awhile ago and reviewng. I was confused at first by shape of pouch. That doesnt really matter. I see more clearly now that 1. Fold zipper towards outside fabric.I have seen instruction to do opposite! but main thing 2. Dont sew over the zipper! Trying this! Great idea! Thanks!
Beautiful
Thank you!
😊😊you are flipping it around so much I can’t tell what’s going on
I did this once by accident but haven't gotten the same effect again. Thanks for walking through the technique step by step!
You’re most welcome!
Love this, just missing that understanding, thank you.
Muito linda
This looks great! I have a question: Can I also topstitch the outer fabric?
I was wondering this too!
I love how much easier this technique is. I also love your fabric. I was wondering if you could share how to find these types of florals. I sew for gifts for friends and family. Thank you for this video.
These are from Rifle Paper Company. Just rub a search in Etsy or Google and you will find many suppliers. 😊
@Sewing Seeds Of Love thank you so much.
I have to practice this technique. I did it once and it was a disaster. Thanks for the tutorial.
❤
Love this. where did you order the sewing labels from?
I love it! It's really cute and you did amazing! I just had my first request to make something for somebody and she wants a zippered coin purse using some vinyl I have. I just wondered what kind of fusible fleece you use? The kind I bought for my bags is not sturdy like a stabilizer should be, and I don't like it. There are so many types out there that it's hard to know which one's good to buy. :( Thanks!
Where are you based, please? I’m from Singapore, and we don’t have codes for them. Maybe pop your question here? facebook.com/groups/1588984701178450

@@SewingSeedsOfLove USA! That's okay :D Thank you! I had my first customer ask for a coin pouch and found this video when searching for a tutorial on doing a zippered one. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I joined the group too! Thanks!
@@Aetheriea nice to know the video showed up in the CZcams search algorithm! 😄

어디서 사야하는지 궁금해요.
Can you tell me why the need for 2 different interfaces? Thanks
what foot is that ? Can we have a link, it is awesome
May I ask where the fabric is from please? It’s beautiful. I love florals. This pouch came out great!!
Thank you! This is from Rifle Paper Co Garden party series. riflepaperco.com/garden_party-fabric-collection
And, most videos show the zipper into the lining area vs the outer side of bag; so I will be trying this as well. I will report my findings.
Hey Jacq, how many layers of interfacing are there on the exterior material? On the video, it seems there are meant to be 1 layer of IF and 1 layer of FF, but the instructions say to cut 4 pcs of IF. Could you please help? Cheers!
4 IF, 2 for exterior, 2 for cotton lining
I skipped the IF for my lining because they were stiff enough.
This is an awesome video. i really like to stitch this bags for an orphanage in india. i would love the free pattern. i have joined the facebook group but still was not able to locate this pattern. please guide me. thanking you in advance.xooxoxox god bless
Hi! This is the direct link to the post. Is your CZcams account name the same as the FB one? Wasn’t able to locate and tag you.
I am looking forward to giving this a try as a begin to create Christmas gifts. Is there a template to download?

Did you topstitch the main fabric?
Hi, is there any reason you didn't topstitch the outer fabric?
What's the white plastic foot you are using? Where can I find one?
Do I cut the interfacing the size of the fusible fleece?
You can cut the woven interfacing the same size as the original pattern. Just keep the fusible fleece 1.5cm in from the top straight edge. I know my video didn’t show this but I mentioned the change in the pattern.
I never knew you could add a zipper pull to a zipper that was cut off at both ends!
We learn something everyday!
Do you have to put 2 layers of fusible fleece on each piece of the exterior fabric? That is not indicated on the written directions.
Yes it is mentioned on page 4, as well as on the pattern pieces.
Если замочек с концов обшить тканью то можно строчить без проблем
Amazing, where do you buy the labels please?
Hi, I got it off a Chinese e commerce platform. You can try AliExpress?
What seam allowance are you using? I don’t fully understand the zipper part. You skip and there is a gap but then you see up the gap. I don’t understand what’s going on. Do you turn the zipper to face the other side or something??
It’s easier to sew TOWARDS the zipper when closing up the gap. Which is why there’s a switch in direction. Seam allowance is 1cm (3/8”).
What is the name of the presser foot are you using?
