I guess I have been a "prepper" my whole life after marriage and kids. I would can and freeze until the cows came home! I always love the look of my pantry on the approach of winter. Sometimes if the garden really exploded that year, I'd have enough for a couple of years and that was good too since you never know if there will be a garden flop or you break a leg or something and can't do it in a season. I love being prepared!

I have always purchased in bulk, even when I was single, when I got married my husband asked me why I kept my pantry so full, I said in case there is an emergency, then one hit, my mom got sick and I couldn't make it to the grocery store while she was ill, I still had plenty to feed my family while I helped care for her. After that he said buy as many groceries as you want, it was nice to not worry about getting fed. When COVID hit again we were in good shape.

Doomsday prepping doesn't mean when fiery hailstones come from the sky. It can also mean frost killing off the buds to the fruit trees (a late frost killed off the apricot and peach buds here this year), or the year the tomatoes got eaten by whatever bug. It can also mean taking the years you have abundance, storing them for the 10 years, just in case your crops/garden/orchard fails. Here in Utah we've been dealing with drought for more than 5 years. So when I get a great harvest of something I'm very grateful for that item and want to preserve all of it, because I don't know if the next year I'll have such a bounty. And if Covid didn't teach us anything about storing items I don't know how much more we can do to teach you that it's a good thing. Thank you for all you do Jessica. I love your soft approach in teaching others how and why people store and prep. Your nudges have gotten me into reconfiguring my own ways of getting organized and storing what I can. Wallaby Goods is new to me. I am always trying to preserve food by canning, freezing and now this would be another means to feed my family and people who need food. We need to help each other to survive. I was blessed to be raised by parents who gardened and preserved. Back then, in the 50's, we canned and froze everything. Life was good back then but now it's a necessary to beat the high costs and short supply of everything. So Wallaby Goods and you are so nice to give us an opportunity to learn more. Thank you .
Jessica, I have a friend with a dairy allergy and she used an oat milk powder to maker her own homemade ranch powder which she now uses in many different meals for her and her family. ( she never got to use the ranch before so now she’s loving the flavoring). I had not considered using a closet for storage; however, we have a lot of floor space available in a "coat closet" that stays really cool in the center of our home.

Around 10 years old I compared prices and weekly ads of the different grocery stores and told my mom what dinners we should have based of the weekly sales. I used to cut out the coupons, but now everything is digital and so much easier. I'm getting married in October and definitely teach my future children how to save and low waste by preserving. Have always canned a little but started preserving more by following your” Every Little Bit Counts last summer. We also did the pantry challenge earlier this year. My food budget has drastically dropped. We are actually going to do another pantry challenge August and September. I will definitely order some Mylar bags and oxygen absorbs next month.
