- Stop this technique, It's popular.. but not great. Just listen to what the client says at 2:35! I think this is one of the biggest moves I'd love people to learn (or unlearn) so please like the video if you enjoy and hope it helps!

Hi I’m Jonathan, I went to a top tier school in this region near Spokane wa in post falls Idaho, the schools name is A.I.C.M.
They taught us the right way, one of our teachers has been at it for 18 years and he’s a healthy ox. Our teacher who taught us medical, cranial, and lymphatic drainage work, she’s been practicing for 30-40 year’s.
That being said without a shadow of a doubt your techniques are parallel with the teachings I learned there.
I humbly say thank you Spencer.
May Creator continue to provide you with strength snd healing for your life and practice!
Peace
I have recently been diagnosed with carpometacarpal joint issues & the pain can be excruciating. I am guilty of using my thumb for over 10 years. I can't wait to use this technique. Any other thumb saving videos would be extremely helpful. Thanks again , Spencer.
I was taught in school a similar technique but not working on the same side but on the opposite side. Since it raises our shoulders too much and bends the wrist. We were also taught our forearm as well. I have had it done to me (having been a demo pretty often) and done it as well. I feel as though the thumb work is more effective once the tissue is warmed up, after petrissage and deep gliding. I have been told plenty of times that it feels amazing.
Wow! Just looking at your thumb grinding in like that makes me hurt 😢
I’m amazed by too many therapists burning out quickly by not alternating their hands/forearms/elbows. As an MT for 10+ years, I can agree that, yes, we obtain more endurance with our tools ✋🏼 but they’re precious, and we need to watch out for these little mistakes that can snowball into something serious later on. Great Video!
Cool, I like your videos, and have done some of your moves on clients. And they like them a lot! 👍
Can you demo on someone who’s blades are glued down? Please and Thank you! 🙏
Possibly cross fiber friction break up some of that adhesion, myofascial release on supraspinatus(if you know how to do so), also working some of the surrounding tissue(teres, lats, subscapularis) loosening those up could help “unglue” shoulder blades. Anybody feel free to add more to this or correct me on some of these techniques 🤙🏽
Thanks Spence, big help!
Thank you
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED FOR MY BACK!
Thank you so much 😊
Cool merci, I will try it tomorrow
Your client just looks so so lovely and relaxed I just love her a lot and I love how you give her a better massage instead with your arm I just love that a lot too! 💖🤩
Love this
hey its part of my sequence. but its actually THUMBS gliding DOWN from upper shoulder ( or in scapula) downwards. personally it feels so really good . my clients all agreed because using tumb u will feel lots of muscle knots specially when u press it a little harder.
I've used my thumbs alot n messed it from 1998 been doing massages n reflexology
Too much for my poor thumb
Although I remember to use forearm but donno unconsciously I go back using my thumb
My xrays are scary
But lucky no pain
I will still try to not use it
Thank you
Your videos helped a lot
I love your vids m8
Thx alot...
Tapotement on the forearm on the muscle. Nice
I'm dead... who even does that on the arms ?😂
@@moee.6488 It works man. Same principle as using a massage gun or other therapeutic tool.
@@Shinobi33 Good point. But it's the first time I've ever seen this technique... they never tought us it in school.
@@moee.6488 Me either. I think in a Salvo book I saw a flat palm and a fist on the palm doing something like transference. But that's it. This dude is legit. My deep tissue is based of his techniques. Check out more of his stuff.
@@moee.6488 It's called creativity, you dont learn that in school :)
A great, clear video brother. It is amazing when some therapists do this move - or do any large muscle work with their thumbs. First, as a client, it feels terrible (to me personally). It's too localized of pressure, feels sharp and inspires me to resist. At best its irritating. I wonder if that therapist has ever had that done on them. That lower elbow move.. that's the money. Feels so confident on the receiving end. Feels easy, really effective - easier to breath through and help it.
TY I message my wife on this area all the time! Now I can't wait to use this method!
wow so cool tapotment on your forarm tequniq.
They did teach us this move in massage school, BUT using a closed fist with thumb out for the pressure giver and wearing a Thumsaver tool for protection. It's worth testing and playing around with until you find a healthy poistion to do it. Otherwise, I agree, do not blow out your thumb joints! Or, bye bye massage career.
Yes I was taught to put the arm over and also use a thumb. I don't feel comfortable doing that at all so I use my hand/fingers. Might have to try the arm but I have skinny arms, so wouldn't want to jab anyone with bony elbows!
@@BP-yg4lr O that is great to hear, thanks!!!
I need to unlearn this. My NMT training has had me using my thumb for the last 8 years or so 😩
0:36 “what knot to do”
Hello sir Patrick Keown...knead the knot slowly untill its melting within 10 minutes or the person you massaging will feel satisfied. The cause of knots are stressed, lack of sleep too.You can use counter pain, ginger oil or lemon grass oil to deminish the stressed veins and muscles.goodluck sir!!!😊👍
Lol good one😂 these are the best jokes
I prefer the towel rolled up technique under the shoulder works well for me and the cleints.
Whats the outro song/beat?
I still don’t understand what to do differently than using thumb - how does the elbow and forearm suffice?
Not many people have pronounced shoulders like hers... so it would be very hard to do this
You saying a elbow or forearm feels more relaxing the your fingers or thumb. I have client that say the opposite in that they prefer when a therapists use there hands and not so much there forearm or elbow. Ive always been a believer that there is room for most technique where as wrong or dangerous move should be psuh to the side and not use. Ive used my thumb for years and thank god no pain.
Vernon Jenkins I primarily use my forearms and elbows and stay away from using my thumbs/hands as much as possible. I’ve mastered a great forearm technique that my clients love. There are ways to use your forearms and not be painful.
I hope it stays that way. Your body mac must be really good & u do self care which is something I'm sure alot don't do & end up with hurt thumbs, hands, & wrist. I need to massage a therapist so they can tell me what is good or not. I don't have complaints except recently with my deep tissue but I broke my right leg tibia and fibula and dislocated my ankle and just getting back to work. Still hurts and by the end of the day my ankle is swallow. 😒
I agree. I’m going back to school for MT in a month and I always use my thumbs. I dunno how the elbow will suffice
Lol thank God, I thought you were gonna explain why this move is not good for the client. I do this move with forearm in almost every massage. Also I learned to put a small towel under the front of the shoulder which can be an alternative to keep your hand there
I found bit difficult using my forearms/elbows with short clients. I am tall, long arms and feel uncomfortable to both....
Hello everybody...I am filipina masseur,I just want to share my ideas and experienced to you guys.If your client is active in sports such as badminton, golf and basketball player, surely the client's scapula is swollen, the shoulder is very tight, the nape & neck have many knots or we called it here in Malaysian tone vegee, vegees.😊the very satisfying massage is using your thumbs and palms as well. You can use elbow accurately and is adviceable most of the time for warm up or just started to massaging client only. However when you put oil on the client's body it is very comfortable to use your thumbs and knuckles with your body weight. You can try it guys and your client will started to request that strategies, nice earnings too👏👍🙏have a great day to us all around the world🙏😊✌
One of my cients loves when I jam my hands under his shoulder blade. 😂 I don't use a thumb though because ouch.
Those were his words. I warm it up and gradually work my way under his scapula. I don't just jab his rhombs and traps like a jac hammer.
My clients are opposite. They love the thumbs in the rhomboids. They ask for more. it does kill the thumbs though
Try using a wooden-tool instead of the thumb; They are hard and can be painful so go slowly with force applied and monitor client tolerance.
Or a forearm glide into a elbow press/hold into rhomboids...For TP work

I loved using the thumb tho it seems to help … so what do we use ?
This is exactly what my lecturer said about taking that hand to the back!
Please explain
The forearm and what you did is perfect for a relaxing massage but not for therapy or pain management imaging doing that on a frozen shoulder yeah right
I put a folded hand towel under her shoulder
Then u don't have to put your other palm under
Fazeela Laher yes, much better on MT’s body mechanics
Yep
Easy way for someone to blow their thumbs out! Also hard on wrist! I never used this technique!
I saw you do the karate chops in my mind.
Shiatsu techniques with lots of thumbs use...
Alot of ppl in here saying my clients love when I use my thumb. OK that's cool but I hope they are paying for that early retirement you will be taking. 😬 if I can avoid it I will.
Can someone please recommend a female therapist providing videos doing deep tissue on men and larger clients? I'd really REALLY appreciate it!!
I’ll do some when I get to clinic training.
Wtf are u massaging in the opening a cadaver? Lol wtf
do you just massage women?
Videooowah. I love your videos. But you pronounce words in a way that cracks me up. Eareeeeahhh
Massage stupid word..just easy money because people not understanding how hard to treat cellulite, fibrosis and activate muscles, get natural length from muscles and have working tendons.....massage Means just SPA wellness...if some specialis works with muscles, means treatment.
Thank you
