Hi I’m Jonathan, I went to a top tier school in this region near Spokane wa in post falls Idaho, the schools name is A.I.C.M.
They taught us the right way, one of our teachers has been at it for 18 years and he’s a healthy ox. Our teacher who taught us medical, cranial, and lymphatic drainage work, she’s been practicing for 30-40 year’s.
That being said without a shadow of a doubt your techniques are parallel with the teachings I learned there.
I humbly say thank you Spencer.
May Creator continue to provide you with strength snd healing for your life and practice!
    Peace

I have recently been diagnosed with carpometacarpal joint issues & the pain can be excruciating. I am guilty of using my thumb for over 10 years. I can't wait to use this technique. Any other thumb saving videos would be extremely helpful. Thanks again , Spencer.

I was taught in school a similar technique but not working on the same side but on the opposite side. Since it raises our shoulders too much and bends the wrist. We were also taught our forearm as well. I have had it done to me (having been a demo pretty often) and done it as well. I feel as though the thumb work is more effective once the tissue is warmed up, after petrissage and deep gliding. I have been told plenty of times that it feels amazing.

Wow! Just looking at your thumb grinding in like that makes me hurt 😢
I’m amazed by too many therapists burning out quickly by not alternating their hands/forearms/elbows. As an MT for 10+ years, I can agree that, yes, we obtain more endurance with our tools ✋🏼 but they’re precious, and we need to watch out for these little mistakes that can snowball into something serious later on. Great Video!

Possibly cross fiber friction break up some of that adhesion, myofascial release on supraspinatus(if you know how to do so), also working some of the surrounding tissue(teres, lats, subscapularis) loosening those up could help “unglue” shoulder blades. Anybody feel free to add more to this or correct me on some of these techniques 🤙🏽

A great, clear video brother. It is amazing when some therapists do this move - or do any large muscle work with their thumbs. First, as a client, it feels terrible (to me personally). It's too localized of pressure, feels sharp and inspires me to resist. At best its irritating. I wonder if that therapist has ever had that done on them. That lower elbow move.. that's the money. Feels so confident on the receiving end. Feels easy, really effective - easier to breath through and help it.

They did teach us this move in massage school, BUT using a closed fist with thumb out for the pressure giver and wearing a Thumsaver tool for protection. It's worth testing and playing around with until you find a healthy poistion to do it. Otherwise, I agree, do not blow out your thumb joints! Or, bye bye massage career.

You saying a elbow or forearm feels more relaxing the your fingers or thumb. I have client that say the opposite in that they prefer when a therapists use there hands and not so much there forearm or elbow. Ive always been a believer that there is room for most technique where as wrong or dangerous move should be psuh to the side and not use. Ive used my thumb for years and thank god no pain.

I don't have complaints except recently with my deep tissue but I broke my right leg tibia and fibula and dislocated my ankle and just getting back to work.
